With every patch i feel the need to switch my primary build to a new weapon. Patch 13, infantry Lasgun Patch 14, recon Patch 15, plasma Dont get me wrong, i really like nearly every gun the Vet has, they feel right and i switch between matches. But certain patches just change stuff in the talents that changes the feel of the weapons. I will try plasma with this build, i currently have a similiar build with the Bolter. I like the Power Swords, because i can stagger multiple ragers with one activated heavy swing. Saves my life and sometimes others.
I think the argument isn't that you can't build a powerful build; the issue is that the builds are very constricting. Patch 13 sucked, you're right. But patch 14 vet was amazing. You had a lot of damage up front, toughness without any tax node, easy access to rending, brittleness, superiority complex, tactical awareness, grenades. Now, conversely to the original intent of the tree in patch 13, only certain weapons are viable. You can't run the recon lasguns and take keystones. The breakpoints for autoguns struggle without taking bring it down. The left keystone sucks unless you take a infantry autogun. Furthermore ability nodes require more points to bring to the average power level of other classes ability node. Who is taking executioners stance without the refresh? Why does stealth require a point for the built in damage boost that zealot has built in? Objectively you're not wrong that one or 2 playstyles (the pureish voice of command build) got stronger this build, but the sharpshooter and the commando suffered huge node bloat this patch, and weapons that made breakpoints with those trees are simply pushed out of the meta, limiting build options.
Thank you! I said a similar thing yesterday. They need to cut two or three rows off the Vet trees if these are the keystones we're gonna be getting. It's not worth all the utility you sacrifice to get them. Personally, I've been enjoying keystone-less builds way more than even the middle tree command one.
@@pablo.gonzales945 that's not necessarily true though, but you have to use a super meta sharpshooter rifle, and hybrid your tree (don't take the sharpshooter keystone, and instead invest in getting bring them down) You're going to struggle if you're not using the single shot headhunter autogun, the Helbore 3 or the mg1a, and the last 2 you're likely not going to take grenade regen which is unfortunately the only thing really setting you apart from scriers gaze gun psyker, and thus devaluing your utility this patch. Still though, all 3 of these weapons should pull their weight for sharpshooter builds, with the headhunter autoguns really just being the meta (because they don't need shock trooper which frees a point) and the everything else just a level below. Should easily be pulling 500k+ damage with these builds if you're selfish, but you also lost covering fire, the talent that shares some of your own toughness regen with the team and the 75% toughness damage reduction (and exhilarating takedown is bugged still sigh) so non headhunter builds bring absolutely 0 utility or toughness mitigation or grenades. So now it's really harsh if you don't come from a fps background and have confidence in your aim you're extra extra dead weight this patch because you have no toughness regen or defense (shooter crowds killing you in executioners stance lmao) and you don't provide any utility (killing enemies your teammates are hitting means they can die since they're getting 0 toughness for the kill and you can't afford to take the concurrency toughness talent) at all, passive or active. Tldr: if you're very good at shooters and play meta, the sharpshooter can be as competitive as the other classes, but if you're not an above average head clicker, you're probably the reason why your team is dying. There's an insane skill gap between a sharpshooter with "great" mechanics and ones with even only "good" mechanics now, which means average players are punished for a role most other classes do easier.
My real complaint with patch 15 vet, isn't that you can't build a good vet, it's vet went from a class where every gun was viable to a class that's very meta or dead weight focused; and even if you're playing meta, you have to be a great player AND no lifer with god rolled meta guns; excluding a lot of casual players from the class.
imo basically any build you make in patch 15 you could have made in patch 14 but it would be either harder hitting (more damage) or better survival (toughness replenishment etc), if not both. you can still play veteran, youre just slightly weaker than before tbh. i also disagree with your idea that veteran is the best at killing specials etc. i think veteran cant be the best at anything right now. it doesnt mean they're terrible, it just means you can be better doing the same type of role as another class. hell go for like a general gun build, gun psyker will outperform veteran here. support build? a psyker with bubble or just an ogryn keeping everything in check and giving space for your teammates will give more than veteran does, hell a zealot with the holy relic will do a better job at that too. killing specials? psyker is good at it, ogryn is good at it, zealot is good at it, veteran is at best equal to one of the other, definitely not better at it. id say veterans main strength is just the fact plasma gun exists. but even then its not like plasma gun is really all that different from a force staff.
Playing veteran in patch 14 felt like playing a commando with a wide arsenal of balanced weapons. In patch 15 playing veteran feels like you're a weak nobody
I've seen vets insta kill bulwarks and crushers in damnation, vets are still really really strong. The main issue with vets is survivability, you're basically forced towards all the toughness nodes just to survive, without them you're a glass cannon.
@@SekiberiusWelkesh true, after playing around a bit I feel there is still some power to be found in the tree. My main gripe is it feels like you’re railroaded into very specific builds. It feels so much more limiting than it did last patch
I find it much easier to make an all round build now! There's even a whole side of the tree that's dedicated to using melee and ranged! Combine that with krak grenades, some toughness perks and the right weapons and you can hold your own.
very nice and interesting build, might actually start playing veteran because of you and I also prefer plasma gun myself what was the difficulty you set while testing this build on meat grinder?
Well weapon specialist has a fun interaction with Plasma gun, when you need to reload and switch weapons kill 4-5 enemy's now your Plasma gun has ammo right? till here all is normal but hear this, when you fire this ammo which you regen from the weapon specialist has no heat. Also alternatively weapon specialist has nice synergy with the revolver and the blessing that gives you the +crit on ammo spent, it also combo well with the stealth and combat blade.
I have a broken build too 😎, look, I constantly shout motivational things to the team and blow up the big bois with a plasma gun ("Argh! Hate plasma"). I don't know, but I feel useful doing this
It’s confusing because every build i find is completely different besides the middle tree

This. Sharpshooter feels SO painful in patch 15#. The time to kill gap between veteran and pskyer/ogryn is wild

Cool, i'll try it out thanks
Running the auto gun with shout and chainsaw half and half great for crowd clearing paird with a zealot and really solid imo

IF YOU CAN BREATHE, YOU CAN KILL! 📢 🎉
I'm a new Veteran player. This is a very interesting build. Also I like hearing your voice. Thanks.
Is that the Skullgirls music?!
