  • Upgrading the end can is the easiest way to improve the sound on your Duke or RC and if you choose something like the Akrapovic slip on then you will gain some extra power as well. This is true on the KTM 390 and also with the 125, 200 and 250 all of which share the same exhaust (check with your local dealer to confirm because there may be some differences depending where you live). Today I'm changing out the stock end can to the Akrapovic which was designed by Akrapovic and KTM.

    Helllo Mirius for one more time :D in yyour opinion ... you believe the sound of the akrapovic at 390 without the db killer worth the money? is the difference obvious? But without any other change like central silencer , decat etc.... i mean if you change only the stock with the akrapovic and remove db killer has a better sound worth 600?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 4 lety

      There is no answer on money. For some people 600 is a lot of money and needs a lot of thought. For others 600 is small change and little thought. Also if you decide you don’t like it, it’s easy to sell. For me, I paid much, much less. Would I pay full price? Not just for sound. But Akrapovic also works for power so that is something you don’t get with cheap or stock exhaust. Skäl. David

    Hello there.. I've recently put on a akro slip on for my duke 390. After riding the bike for 2k kms I've noticed the throttle has become less responsive. And the idle is quite rough, the RPM automatically keeps moving up and down. I feel it's because of the new exhaust. Should I get a piggyback ECU? What are you thoughts

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi. Hunting at idle is most commonly caused by lean running - vacuum leaks around the air box or fouled plug, blocked injector. Check also for air leaks at exhaust joints and check the air filter for fitting and cleanliness. If you’ve removed the baffle try refitting. Any other exhaust mods like decat, header or open air box lid and I’d go piggyback. But I wouldn’t otherwise recommend on otherwise stock setup (Akro slip on is factory stock alternative) unless you’ve ruled out the common causes. Skäl. David

    Quick question : New Biker here … It’s enough to take out the pre silencer ( Black box thingy ) and use a mid pipe connector with fuel x lite to compensate the mixture . I want more sound and maintain my engine health

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The Lite will maintain engine health. Removing the presilencer will tend to reduce mid range power so isn't recommended unless you replace it with a pipe that has a chamber in it - I have a video showing a LeoVince pipe replacing the presilencer so you can see what I mean. It will make the bike much louder, so I don't do it as it will reduce your choice in what slip on you can fit.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před rokem

      You have to be a bit careful with dates because some countries were (and maybe still are) supplied with the old models. The new version likely uses the same end can - the difference is the link pipe - the BS6 under engine exhaust has different pipe connectors. So you can't just fit the older Akra to the newer bikes. But if you swap out the entire BS6 exhaust you could put an old style exhaust on a newer style bike - so it depends what they did to make it work. It might be if you bought the BS6 link pipe from KTM, the old slip on would be plug and play.

      In around 2021 KTM started to fit a new exhaust system which runs under the engine. In some countries this was not sold until much later. The 2017-2022 fits the exhaust which runs along the side of the engine. If your exhaust runs under the engine then it will not fit.

      If you check the KTM Powerparts reference number 93505999000 you will see it fits all 125 to 390 Dukes - but not if you have the exhaust which routes under the engine - this takes a modified pipe to fit, but the slip on is I think the same.

      Hi. Leaks are not good so best fixed. Two issues. You haven’t fitted it properly - it can be difficult to get a good deal and get the silencer to fit to the bracket. • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 2 měsíci

      The BS6 uses a slip on exhaust. Only the gen 1 and the 2024 do not use a slip on. If you have a 2024 then you will need to wait for the aftermarket to design and release products. I do not understand the question about the exhaust being fixed to mileage. If you have a new bike and it under warranty then you are restricted to the KTM products - in this case Akrapovic, unless your dealer agrees (in writing) to the modification.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 4 lety +1

      Just taking off the stock slip, and running without it is all bad. The sound is terrible - it's just loud and a flat tone - a good exhaust sound makes the bike sound fast which means it has tone and that tone changes as the bike is revved - this is where a good exhaust designer makes all the difference. It will also not help the performance of the bike, so this is bad too - there is a reason why KTM made the exhaust the length that it is - the RC which is designed for racing, has always had a long exhaust for this reason even with the gen 1 bikes.

    I removed the baffle on my duke 390 but I felt a drop in acceleration and slight drop in top end too. Does that always happen ? I’m guessing it’s due to reduction in back pressure. Is there any solution for this problem?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 4 lety

      If you still have the cat and presilencer in place then baffle is unlikely to provide much back pressure. This why it’s important to use a dyno if you care about power to measure what is actually happening rather than what you think is happening. For example it might be a change in fuel mixture not back pressure. Try an idle reset and let the bike relearn the new configuration. Skäl. David

      But after I swapped my exhaust to the stock with baffle this solved my power and backfire issue and doesn’t seem to run lean

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius  Před 4 lety

      With a decatted bike, power is normally best with the baffle in because of the back pressure. Popping is unburnt fuel igniting in the exhaust which isn't normally a sign of running lean. On my decatted bike, it will rarely pop with the baffle in but pops a lot with the baffle out - however this is normal behaviour with straight through pipes and is one of the primary functions of the baffle - it's why in some parts of the world, the baffle is called a "spark arrestor" not a baffle or DB killer.

      @@MotoMirius there is a video of a guy with his 390 Duke and he says he just eliminated the exhaust all together and you can see and hear that is what he did in the video. I did not know it would be OK to do that. I had mine off and loved the sound but I thought this was maybe not good for the bike or the motor. But what do I know? Not much!

      @@JQUICK21 Highly not recommended. If you want a louder exhaust then decat and remove the primary silencer, but be prepared to fit a piggyback ECU. There are videos on all this on my channel.

      Yes. It is a simple replacement of the stock silencer with no other changes made or necessary - this is a KTM part made for them by Akrapovic.

      It's original. I don't fit replica parts as a matter of principle because I don't support criminals and the criminal activities that go with replica parts. If you are patient you can normally find original parts like this being sold second hand in good condition at a good discount from the new price.
