Protection: Fitting The Best Radiator Guard
Modern bikes rely on a radiator for engine cooling, but this is delicate and sits right behind the front wheel where it is easily damaged.
Fitting a radiator guard can help prevent the radiator getting damaged which risks losing coolant and worst case a seized engine. But at the same time, you don't want something heavy or something that will block air flow through the radiator.
My choice for this is the Bagoros Performance radiator guard which is better designed than most on the market, so in this video I will show how easy it is to install.
This video applies to the KTM small Dukes, RC and the Husqvarna 125, 250 and 401

Now, I’m just a normal guy who likes working on bikes; I’m not a qualified mechanic but I’ve spent a lot of time working on bikes and most of the servicing you see is directly from the manufacturer workshop manuals. I like to show you interesting things you can do and that I’ve done with my bikes, but I can’t promise you that anything I show you will work on your bike as not everything is always exactly the same. Be careful not to harm yourself, anyone else or your bike and always be aware that if you have a warranty then changing or working on your bike can invalidate it - they do love an excuse not to have to pay out. If you have any doubt then talk to a qualified mechanic or engineer and make up your own mind.

    A very effective trick that was past on to me long age and made brake bleeding quite simple is on the bleeding hose as close to the bleeder valve as possible is to make a small loop using either tape or cable wraps then the hose being held in a reclaim bottle. This creates kind of an air lock and once you fill the loop with brake fluid there no way far air to get sucked back into the calipers. This way you can open the bleeder valve slightly ( just enough to pass fluid, too much and you'll suck air around the threads on the valve) then use the multiple pump method just take your time and keep the master cylinder full as you go. This should help when pushing the air in the over the fender line not needing to stop and start bleed process, keep pumping keep adding fluid until you've pumped several ounces ( more than enough to flush the entire line). The lever will feel light until you close the bleeder valve then it'll be firm. Bleed from the farthest point from the master cylinder and the entire line is bled. Works every time, easy least!!

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 6 dny

      As mentioned in the video I'm running a 2021 401 swinging arm in my 2017 Duke. The only part that changed was the swinging arm, so I see no reason why you would have issues. If you want to be absolutely sure then check the part numbers for the wheel, axle and swinging arm bolt etc - if they are the same for 2018 and 2023 then they will fit.

    Hi David. It's been a while since you published this very helpful video. I was wondering if you've gathered new intel that could help me make a decision regarding a piggyback ecu. I am between the Rapidbike Evo Exclusive and the Coober. I want the auto tune capacity that these offer. My mods are an airbox lid and mini cat delete. Currently running a Fuel X Lite, but I have a feeling my bike is running lean. Lot's of popping on decel. Coober seems to be easier to install which is always welcome. Please let me know if there is anything you can add to help me make a decision. The price is very similar here in the US, so that's not really an issue. Cheers!

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 7 dny

      Hi, Coober is easier to install because it only connects to the Lamba sensor - like the Lite. How much, if any, better it is than the Lite will depend on how much if any KTM were involved in the software side. Popping can be caused by unburnt fuel being ejected into the exhaust, so is not necessarily a sign of running lean.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 7 dny

      Thanks, much appreciated. This was a sprocket being supplied by Bagoros Performance at the time. The stock 45 tooth - part number 90510051045 was fitted to both Duke and RC from 2014 to 2021. In 2022 they fitted 95810051045 (the sprocket from the Adventure) to both Duke and RC as well as the Adventure, and appear to still be fitting it. I claim no expertise on the RC, but I would be a little dubious about the sprocket you have purchased. Edit - I see the later RC 125 was using the same sprocket as the Dukes - some other special RC models appear to have different sprockets which are only used on the RC.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 17 dny

      It is a separate issue. If you modify your bike then you will risk the bike no longer being compliant - but not all changes will make the bike non compliant. There are too many variables to discuss whether the FuelX will make the bike non compliant - it isn't a simple yes or no question - a change to one bike in country A may have no impact but the same change made in Country B may make it non compliant because Country B has different environmental conditions. But the real question is enforcement - what is the risk that your bike will be checked? If no one ever checks, then what is your risk?

      The 250 runs different suspension units from the 390 - but the mounting appears to be the same, so it's likely that the internal setup is different - the 390 has more power and this will effect damping etc. It should be possible to fit.

    I like to take saturdays or sundays to go over the bike like this(learned a good few extra steps I wasnt aware of here) aswell as wash it over and remove the layer of squashed insects thats accumulated over the week.. Before I ride I always look underneath first to check for oil and fluid spillage, I then step on the tires to check pressure(obviously not an accurate reading, but when it is the correct pressure almost all the time I do notice if its off after having done it everytime), I get on the bike and turn on it on, then I check the lights, breaklight and signal light, lastly check the breakes by making sure they dont give when I squeeze them. All in all takes 10-15 seconds extra in the morning before I start my commute to work.

    If I have a slip on exhaust/muffler on the bike with the coober intake is the bike gonna run too lean or do I need a piggyback or ECU re map?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 26 dny

      It would depend how free flowing the slip on is. Probably safer to start thinking about something like the FuelX Lite

    Is there auto mode for pro version, which can put it in a state where it behaves like lite? But if user wants to play then use pro side of things

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 26 dny

      Some believe that there is but I don't agree. Pro is a specialist tool for professionals, it's not intended to be a fully autotune unit like the Lite.

      What happened next is that I had an issue with the engine and pushed it to the back of the shed! Hopefully it will come back to light sometime soon.

    Does the XL1200S take the same rebuild parts as a standard XL1200? Not sure what parts to order for a complete rebuild...

    I found changing the spark plug from a flat electrode to a pin electrode made a significant change to the low rev range..much smoother.

    Is 1st gen RC outer pipe cover(fork) same as Duke?

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před 27 dny

      As far as I'm aware they are the same unit - but I've not had them side to side. I know the Duke top clamp fits the RC so it's likely they are the same.

    Hello I just recently came across your videos and they’ve been incredibly helpful! I wanted to ask if you’d have any recommendations on getting my 2022 390 duke to pop wheelies , I know the new models can out of the dealer but mine has a slightly smaller displacement, if there’s any modifications you can recommend it’d be greatly appreciated!

    • @MotoMirius

      Using power to make a wheelie is not the best or safest way to do it, so I recommend this video to show you the correct way to do it. Good luck and be brave! czcams.com/video/8ZrRSG6lopA/video.htmlsi=z3YHsSwkrDPflPUV

    I don't see any reason in can't be sped up by flicking or tapping the hoses to get all the air up that might be sticking to hose walls.

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před měsícem

      Yes, as mentioned in the video you can tap the lines - depends how much air is in the system and if there are any air traps such as elbows etc.

    Hello mate I’ve recently juts added a new full exhaust system too my ktm rc 125 2023 but I’m having some problems my engine light has come out my bike doesn’t ride the same it’s rlly boggy ,idle is all over the place could this be the exhaust and how too I get around it as I rlly want the exhaust on my bike

    • @MotoMirius
      @MotoMirius Před měsícem

      Depends what you mean by a full exhaust, but if you have removed the original system and replaced it with a free flow system, then you would need to update the map - not doing so not only is likely to create issues with idle (this is often normal after fitting a new exhaust as the ECU needs to update the map), but also can result in engine damage if the change is beyond the adjustment limits allowed by the ECU.
