It hurts because the Colts kept the name and moved to a different city. When NFL teams do that, it’s a big F U to their old town. At least the Browns changed their name to the Ravens so one day Cleveland could have it back if they wanted it. Same with Houston. It’s really frustrating to see the team for which you rooted so many years come visit from another city. 30+ years or not, I can understand the animosity.

Totally agreed. The Colts name was much more relevant to Baltimore than to Indianapolis, so the team should've changed its name when they left and left it for the old Browns to adopt when they came to Baltimore. (Also, I think part of the reason why the Oilers changed their name is because that name isn't as relevant in Tennessee as it is in Houston.) I still have hope that someday if and when Irsay's family sells the Colts, they'll give their name and IP back to the Ravens and the Indy team will change its name.

Baltimore has every right to be bitter about losing the logo, colors, name, and history of the Colts. Irsay was wrong, and sports billionaires should pay for their own stadiums instead of fleecing taxpayers.
At the same time, Baltimore does need to get over losing "a team". The same city that lost a team got a new team at another city's expense. Not just any other city, but Cleveland. Once you get a team back, and your new team wins a championship before your old team does, you should let the past go. Baltimore got screwed, but Cleveland had it worse.

The biggest villain in all this was Paul Tagliabue. Fans and media in Balto. were not real sanguine about taking the Browns from Cleveland. Tagliabue screwed Balto. and gave expansion franchises to Charlotte, North Carolina and Jacksonville, suggesting Balto. should "build a museum." (Its not like we didn't have the Walters and the BMA!) You try to tell me whether these two franchises put together--along with the intangibles like sports history--are today worth as much as the Ravens! Additionally the ultimate Tagliabue insult was allowing Cleveland--Modell was a class act--to keep its name, colors, and history while insisting on no such provision for Colts fans in Balto.

@Fairfaxcat Taglianoob gave Baltimore the short end of the stick. I agree with you on that. Taglianoob was in cahoots with Jack Kent Cooke, who expected Baltimore to root for the Potato Skins (i.e. the ***Skins.) He gave Baltimore no choice but to steal a team. Ironically, Art Modell voted against the Colts moving to Indy and tried to stop Irsay from doing so. Here's a quote from Model lhimself back in 1984: "We can't hopscotch franchises around the country. We have built this business on the trust of fans. If we treat that as if it doesn't count, it isn't going to wash." He was the most vocal opponent of the Colts move to Indy. It shows how much of a hypocrite Modell was.
By the way, Taglianoob let Cleveland keep the name, colors, and history of the Browns for two reasons:
      1. He knew that he was to blame. If he gave Baltimore the Ravens as an expansion franchise, Baltimore politicians would have never contacted Modell.
      2. Cleveland would have sued the NFL otherwise.
