Rogue's can't roll 2 on Stealth which is why he always has such a stupid high stealth roll lol
Every d20 roll in skills which rogues are proficient with are treated as 10 if it is below 10. Combine this with expertise (doubles the proficiency bonus for some skills) and you get the high level rogue that literally can’t fail some skill checks.

They bring it up in campaign two. Laura's character says that line as they all toast, and then Taliesin's character quickly chimes in about how stupid that sounds. It's very funny knowing the origin.

It's because if they used full running speed, you wouldn't be able to catch up to them if you made a wrong turn or went off their path for any reason and they are faster than the walking speed because... who would want to walk half the zone with an NPC. I know they could make it faster than it is now, but my guess is that they want it to be new player friendly so that noone would fail over and over again and then they would have to memorize that path or w/e. But yeah, after 12 years whenever i see an escort quest, a part of my soul dies.

Having Travis and Sam sitting so far apart is like the teacher splitting up friends. They still talk, but now they just talk across the room to each other.
I havent reached the new campaign yet, but I believe that Sam and Travis are the two best players in this one for various reasons, and any time one or the other is involved in a caper it is aswesome. Even better when its the two of them together. Through in Ashley with either of them as well because she bounces off them well.
In terms of d&d and for good showmanship this is far better as if you want to have their great moments they need to be talking across the room and involving everyone audience included rather than sitting next to one another whispering and keeping those great moments more to themselves

Matt just skipped that there. I know it wouldve sucked to loose a character like that, but you know what? Dont jump down a cliff and turn into a goldfish 99% in if you dont wanna loose your character.
@@gorgitthat’s wrong. Revivify doesn’t have all the pass roles, it’s just the one role DC they need to pass and Vex passed it. They used revivify before plenty of times without any of the ritual stuff, it just needs to happen within a minute and every time it happens the DC goes up

Basic AC (armor class) is based on your Dexterity and the type of armor you're wearing, so either you're really dexterous and practicing the 5 Ds of Dodge Ball, or you got hit, but your armor is doing its job and you didn't take any damage.

You can practically see Liam think up Caleb just before 4:22:00 after Sam and Marisha use near godly amounts of fire in those mines!
It is very strange coming back through and finding all these little things that are big things in Campaign 1. Deastock is near Zadash, there's every chance that Taryon has met some favourites from Campaign 2.
(I wonder if Matt's worked out where Tary and his family are by Campaign 2? As much as he's said he doesn't want any direct cross overs, if the M9 end up in Deastock.....)

Yeah, that's a crazy unlikely roll. There is 0.1% chance of getting 42 on 8d6 and 0.07% chance of getting any number that's higher.
He also avoided saying it did any damage just that the next attack had advantage not sure if it took the damage because its still a divine entity

Lots of sneaky good character development.
Sam might be the most charismatic but Travis has mastery of his character. He doesn't break - see: holding a thumbs up smile for ten literal minutes
@@MasterCrander I am convinced that Travis is the best PC I have ever seen. He has perfect distinction between himself and Grog whether it be in combat/shopping/dialogue/or even monologue. It amazes me how he can go from making me laugh to making me cry in the same episode and still make it 100% believable

It was one of the options for Taryon's book name a few episodes back. The name they went with for the episode plays way too well with the events in it.

When Sam tells Travis he’ll give him a Jump coin and Travis asks if he’ll sing “Jump” by Van Halen when Grog uses it, I so wanted Sam to say, “What am I, a bard? No.”
That moment made me think Grog was missing Scanlan’s singing everything he did. He wants his other little buddy back
that collaborative improvisation by Matt and Sam that turned into and out to be a LOTR reference at the 40 minute mark... that was beautiful

I mean, everyone with the exception of Tarry has a Vestige...(and Scanlan had one too) so...thats on Matt for making that many. Someone had to have 2. As Matt himself said, let that be a lesson to DMs out there when making magic items for the party.
BvG Hill vax does have too much though, whisper, wings, boots of haste, snake belt and elemental resistance by choice on armor. That’s a LOT.
@@ajmrozinski2551 I think the one that pushes it over the edge is the boots of haste, but frankly anyone else with that would be even more OP. The only ones that would really benefit from the boots would be Percy (who arguabily should have gotten it as he is probably the least powerful of the non-magic characters, but never really showed interest on them), Vex and Grog. Both Vex and Grog have offensive Vestiges. Vex also had powerful arrows and other items, so she would be as strong as Vax and we would be talking about her instead. As for Grog...with the magic swords he had, the Gauntlets and other things he carried...he would be insanely overpowered witht the booths of haste. Motherfucker would attack like 6 times in a turn, he would deal like 200 burst damage.
As for the snake belt...its not strong at all, mostly a scouting item, really. He didn't use it on any fights, now, did he?
@@ProfiteerProphet The extra hasted action only allows you to make one extra attack, regardless of how many attacks you get per action. And with Vax getting doubled speed with the wings AND flying means that doubling that again with haste makes him insanely busted, and thats before taking into account that rogues get to take an extra dash movement for a bonus action which puts him at a potential 480 feet of movement per turn if he chooses. Bumping someone from 30 feet grounded to 60 feet grounded is much more reasonable that bumping Vax from 60 feet flying to 120 feet flying.
Laura even mentioned in a previous episode when talking about the boots "sarcastically" that it would be nice if someone would share out their movement items. Travis even made a great case for the Whisper dagger in that he spends a lot of time chasing enemies and not being able to catch them (Travis looked extremely bumbed and bored in a couple previous fights like he was having no fun at all because of this, hence why Matt gave him the feral leaping boots), But Liam said no, daggers are my thing (that was his entire justification for keeping whisper), even though he shouldnt be bamphing in close to enemies anyway since he has no hit points. Liam is just selfish and wants all the mobility for himself at the expense of other peoples fun.
Dear god I wish that Taryon had responded to his sister’s “consider the bloodline over one selfish action” speech with this: “I’ll consider that when you and Papa start to consider me as a person rather than an object to be bartered”.
Because that is literally all they’ve done since he got there! Guilt trips and emotional blackmail and “you now have a purpose in this family/your arrival is a great boon to us”. Good on you Matt for making me hate these bastards so much!

Lessons learned through TTRPG: Parents, a) never live your lives vicariously through your children, and b) never force your children to live their lives for you.
To be fair, he did rob his family and leave them with basically nothing, then blew all that money in less than a year. He's nothing close to innocent here
@@captainbirch2.079you’ve made multiple comments implying Tary intentionally left his family with little to no money. You seem to be the only one that didn’t get the major part in this: he literally had zero clue that they were going broke.
It's so funny how Sam and Travis play. Asking for permission for everything, being up front and honest with the DM... its so cool
And this right here is why folks aren't as fond of the other players. Always asking for extra bonuses to rolls (watch the next time Marisha has to roll something and there's a very high chance she says something like "just straight X?" like she wants to get some random bonus to the roll), trying to roll for things from previous scenes that are over, trying to get more out of abilities than what they actually do, and while they all have issues with knowing their characters/stats, those 2 are by far the best at it. I mean the first time Pike ever cast Beacon of Hope (which is a great buff) was when she was being controlled by Liam and Laura, even though she had access to that level of spell since the beginning of the campaign.
@@scottshaw8864 - From the way Marisha asks "just straight X" it always sounds like she just making sure she's not supposed to be adding anything, not if she CAN add anything. Like she's checking real quick to make sure she's doing it right. Liam is also really good about asking what he can/can't do and having a back up plan if he can't. And Laura has recognized her 'favorite terrain' thing to the point where's she roasting herself about it.
I get being irritated at some things and to each their own, but the degree to which people look down on so many members of the cast for not meeting their own standards is getting pretty silly. Everyone has issues knowing their stats etc because they have a million things to keep track of, those things are always changing, and not everyone has an A+ memory. And going back and forth about all the way they could be better players is moot anyway because, as they've said from the very beginning, they play for fun. They're not Rules Lawyers. They're not Power Players. They're not sticklers. They have fun, play pretend, and improv with their friends. And all the hand-wringing and finger-wagging from so much of the fandom hasn't fazed them in the slightest after *years* so I have no idea why people are still at it.
(Sorry, Edward, this wasn't all aimed at you per se. I only meant to reply with the top part and then the bottom part came spilling out. I've been reading too many mean/superior comments below these videos for months now, I should really stop.)
And Taleisin is... a unique player. I love his style. He’s not a selfish player, but not in the same way Sam and Travis are. Part of it is his character, but he plays the part so well and adds an intelligence to the party that compliments Sam and Travis’ characters so well.
@@brittanydiamond6772 I feel the same way. As a DM I have no problem when my players try and see what options are available to them. Sometimes I forget things, sometimes they do. Sometimes the rules don't support something that should be logical. Sometimes people come up with unconventional approaches.
That's how this game works. You have to test things, see what works. They don't stay bogged up in long debates over the rules. They may try and argue a point but then Matt says his point and they move on. That's how the game works.
The level of hate people have for half the cast of a show that takes hours to get through even a single episode of makes no sense to me. It's to me, extremely indicative of some serious character flaws that probably makes them more of a pain at the table than these players ever could be. If you spend months or longer watching a show about make believe, and spend most of it criticizing the way the cast plays, there's something really broken inside of you and your criticisms are very likely just a projection of either yourself or the biases you've formed from your own experiences. Either way you're letting it have an unhealthy influence on you.
@@brittanydiamond6772 I agree. I play bloodbowl have done for 5 years and I will STILL confirm with my opponent That Ive calculated how many dice Im about to throw...... EVERY TURN. Its to make sure we are both happy before I roll. Ive played with players that just pick up dice and roll so fast that they made mistakes but the game has already rolled on before Im able to realise and pull them up. By this time it can cause real arguments.

Well to be fair Scanlan did that in secret and the next time it is brought up everyone acted as if they knew. It's a latter day meta effect where players only remember the information and not whether the PC actually did.
Taryons' mother is the most precious thing. She seems like she genuinely cares for Taryon, unlike his father or sister.

He got there by digging a hole deeper and deeper to keep up appearances. He got there by lying and manipulating. He got there by letting his mouth write checks that his ass couldn't cash. There's not a doubt in my mind he was more than happy to sell his own son (and let's be real, that's what an arranged marriage is. It's a parent selling their offspring for profit.) just to keep up his posh lifestyle.

I am so glad for Travis converting the quarter mile to meters because otherwise I wouldn't have had any clue as to how deep that sinkhole was.
Just think of a kilometer as half a mile. It's not exactly that, but it's close enough to let you wrap your head around the distance.
A mile is 1600 meters.
Running tracks are 400meters. It takes 4 times around a track to complete 1600 meters which equals one mile. When someone says a quarter or half mile or a mile etc, its easy to convert into meters by how many times around a running track that is.

I would have liked to see them send the drow with a care package for Scanlan. Some gold, some baked goods and a coupon for the Slayers Cake.
I mean percy is still wanting to hunt Scanlsn down for the gun he traded with grog for, even though percy shouldn't know anything about it. Pike and grog are still emotionally hurt by his sudden departure. Vax, Vex, and Keyleth all seem kinda done with the whole deal. So it isn't alls that surprising that they wouldn't send baked goods
@@walfman100 I'm sure Percy keeps a VERY close list of all he has given guns to considering how much he despises his invention. It's not surprising that he has figured out that Scanlan took a gun especially considering how much Scanman wanted one.

I love that Matt quickly glanced up when Marissa mentioned freedom of movement canceled out difficult terrain. Its like he was looking to see how they reacted and if they payed attention to what she said. It’s definitely something he likes to use in battles like this.

I like that since Grog can hold his breath for 6 minutes, essentially every single big boss fight they've had has been less then a 5th of that time.
I have a feeling Matt deeply regrets Vax's speed increasing items right now... xD
I think calling him a "bullet" made this clear... his estimated speed is about 480 mph when hasted... he barely needs to wind walk
His speed while hasted with the wings is 120 feet, and if he takes the dash action as his main action and his bonus action, his distance covered in a 6-second action is 360 feet (movement, action, bonus; 120 each), which works out to 60fps, or roughly 41 mph. Still an incredible feet, but he's not out-racing modern high-performance sports cars.
With a fly speed of 60 boots of haste bring it to 120 which he can move with his movement, action, bonus action, and hasted action. 120 * 4 = 480ft / 6 seconds which translates to 80ft per second or 55ish miles per hour
Matt has been quoted as to having regretted giving his players such powerful items, but to be fair these characters were all originally from Pathfinder where their items had different effects, or their effects were less strong.
He has gone on record though saying to think twice before giving your players items that increase their spell DC - Keyleth's Spire and Scanlan's Hand Cone.
The boots of haste are a less-than-balanced conversion from Pathfinder, which happened to synergize a little too well with the Deathwalker's Ward armor that was initially intended for someone else and the basic rogue rules and it's too late to really rebalance any of them. As much as the actual roleplay doesn't reflect it, Vax is the anime protagonist of the group
