My father was 17 and a tank driver from Verdun in Montreal. Him and all his friends signed up. One lied he was only 16.. he never taked about the war. But from what I understand out of the 10 that signed two came back. I served in the RCR for 8 years.. and rest assured we would be back in a second if needed, as you would for us.

Canada, we friggin LOVE you here in The Netherlands. Thanks thanks thanks!!! I'm only 28 years old, but I can tear up by the thought of the sacrifices you have made to honor our sovereignty. You are the absolute MVP's, the heroes of our times and lands. You kept us and the entirety of Europe from the grip of an evil, fascistic and dictatorial regime fueled by nothing but hate. Thanks and much love to your great nation, a humble Dutchman.

@@airchompz We Dutch people learn to be grateful to Canada from our parents and also at school during history lessons the children learn what the Canadian soldiers did to help liberate our country. It is just a fact that it shouldn't last any longer otherwise I was not sitting here writing on my laptop because my mother would have died from starvation and then I wasn't born , they came just not too late, I am happy that my 83 yrs old sweet mama is still alive.

@@lienbijs1205 I feel so proud to be the grandson of one of those soldiers right now. War is such a horrible thing, but it also makes us appreciate what we have and it did forge this incredible bond between our countries.
I know Canada and the Dutch actually work together in modern military conflicts to this day. The two will always have each other's backs. Cheers to you and your wonderful family!

@@airchompz I feel happy that you are proud on your grandfather so it means that you understand that what your grandfather did is something huge for the Dutch people.I hope that the childrejn in Canada learn how great Canada waa helping the Dutch people and that we teach our children to be grateful for our freedom and that Canada and its people symbolize freedom to us. My mother told us and her grandchildren so many times how real hunger feels. And describing each detail of the liberation. The food packages thrown out of planes. The Canadians the children all wanted to climb on the jeeps and how sweet they all were to the children by sharing their ration. My mother is always saying that Canadians are the sweetest people.

You guys saved my grandparents not just from occupation but also from starvation. My grandmom died last year at the age of almost 98, We will always remember you, the next generation too, we will always be thankfull for what all of you did. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
    🇳🇱🌷❤🌷🇨🇦
Why do we Dutch people never have forgotten the Canadians? You have to be occupied to appreciate what freedom really means, and when you do, you never forget those who gave it to you. That's why Canada and so the Canadians will never be forgotten in the Netherlands by us Dutch people.

One thing i hear time And time again. Is the extended respect the Dutch give without even knowing it. They ask if they can take a picture, They ask if they can shake the hand of a Liberator, Humbling!
