    I’m related to him, as he is apart of my mom’s family. I’m very proud of my family’s military history.

      Damn ww1 now an era is gone now ww2 up are next and there comin within 10 or 20 and just sad to see eras go really but at least we have videos of them to honor thier memories

      boulder man the last living world war ll veteran died on December 27th 2018 at age 112

    :'( i never knew him but he looks like a good man and at a young age he wanted to fight for his country he is a true hero i salute you and rest in peace even though your not with us physically your still with us in our hearts :)

    Good man with a hart of gold, my gramp 108 th Ontario regiment lost his eye ww1, I miss him

      MY WAS WAS DIFFERENT I WAS 17 AND GOT JUMPED BY 3 BAD BOYS ,, THEY HURT ME IM STILL SUFFERING ,, I ALWAYS LOOK UP TO MY GRAND FATHER THAT WAS IN THE WAR IN WW1 ITALY ,IM AND ITALIAN I WAS BULLIED AND WAS GANG UP ON AS WITNESSES SAW ME GET KICKED AND PUNCHED TO THE GROUND AND BRASS NUCKLE TO THE FACE,, IM STILL HURTING,, THIS IS ME AT 67 NOW ,, ILL NEVER FORGET,, THE COURTS THRU IT OUT NO WITNESSES BUT THERE WERE TEACHERS A PRINCAPLE AND LOTS OF STUDENT THAT WERE THERE ,, NOT ONE CAME FORWARD ,, SCARED THATS WHAT THEY WERE ,,IN 1973 IT WAS A NO WITNESS NO CAMERAS ETC,, GOD BLESS ALL OF THEM

      How’s that hard to believe? The average person lives to the age of less than 85. To enlist, you generally had to be 18, which would put almost all military personnel, at minimum, at the age of 120 at the time of writing your comment. That’s minimum. Not hard at all to believe.

      Yes I know I lived in one, no matter how deep past 2ft and has connections it is considered a trench a hole has no connections

    this is a great story for history and I believe that he is a part of Canadian WWI History
    who cares if he saw action in the trenches or not. his story is one that has to be told.
    I guess he died r.i.p. boy soldier

    It's a shame The Edmonton Journal didn't respect John's wishes and referred to him as a WW1 Veteran.
    He rightly didn't want to be known as that, nor called a hero because he didn't take part in the conflict.
    I'd be mortified if people called me a veteran of a certain war or a hero of a certain war if all I did during said conflict was train in another part of the world as my brave peers were being killed or injured on the battlefield.

    I will never understand why people give the thumbs up to a statement without knowing if it's true or not!
    Of course people who fought in The Battle Of Waterloo weren't alive in 1923!
    The last survivors of said battle died at the end of the 19th Century.

    what happens when there gone! all of them WW1 WW2 thats it its soo sad i just cant believe it came and went so fast. its better to know decades ago he and so many were there. rest in peace
