- Earlier this year, Odd Lots talked about the idea of companies taking advantage of bottlenecks and other disruptions to raise their prices. Since then, the notion of this type of corporate-led inflation has burst into the public discourse with central bankers and politicians all taking a closer look. But how does this type of inflation differ to more traditional economic interpretations of prices, and what are the implications for monetary and economic policy? In this episode, we talk once again to Isabella Weber, the UMass-Amherst economics professor who dubbed this phenomenon "sellers' inflation" in a paper published earlier this year. She talks about how the way we think about inflation is changing and her own experience of seeing public attitudes shift in real time.

I find it beyond fascinating that a company like bloomberg has people open to such economically progressive measures.
Finally! A Marxist economist who advocates a return to the price controls of Nixon and Ford.
This was a good interview, but I wonder whether she is getting at the root causes of the present inflation. Would price-over-volume inflation have been possible if there hadn't been so much fiscal largesse? Consumers aren't very frugal when they are spending helicopter money.
Profiteering
Nope. Not agreeing. I do think some of us woke up one day and got more greedy.
Interview 👍🏿. Windfall profits tax 👎🏿. It appears to me Dr. Weber wants to increase regulation. As a former business owner, now retired, not a fan.
Well then you should show some alternatives how to make the system better for the majority of the people.
@@Schunderful I can suggest no remedy for those who don't apply themselves at school and then at their chosen vocation. Most, not all, people end up exactly where their life decisions have taken them. Look up "marshmallow experiment" by Mischel.

why is the lady with glasses laughing as she's talking? There is nothing funny about the subject
