  • The Mizuno Pro 223 is no more and Mizuno have replaced it with the Pro 243, building on the already impressive performing Pro 223, the 243 has increased MicroSlot in the longer irons to help produce better launch and more consistent Ball Speed. It has a reworked multi thickness Club Face providing increased Forgiveness from that of the Pro 223.
Is is worth the Upgrade? well lets see how the new one works compared against the old and see what benefits you will get from the NEW over the OLD Model.

    Great analysis as usual.
Will be on the lookout for some 223s when I've sold my 921 forged.
Picked up the 921s Modus 105 Reg, 18 mths ago, put in a cheaky low bid & won😎
Had lies adjusted to suit my 2° flat but never fell in love with them. Didn't feel like Mizunos I'd been playing.
Out of interest picked up some cheap, half decent MP54s with DG R300 XP shafts a week ago & used them this weekend.
The difference was night & day fell in love with the Mizuno feel all over again.
Lie's are Std so had to start aiming a bit to the right. Being 34° loft 7i they went high stopped dead & about 3/4 of a club shorter than the 921s.
How much was the shaft is hard to tell but I felt in control (almost) of my shots.
Outcome is 921s are up for sale & I'll be having a fitting session before hunting down some 223's
Nothing feels like a reel Mizuno.😎

Demo'd some 243s with 105 shafts & light & strike was fairly consistant. Full shaft fitting required😎

Thanks for doing this comparison. I picked up a set of used 223 irons late last year and am really enjoying them. Good to confirm that they're as good as the latest iteration. I do like that the 8 through gap are a one-piece forged club. I find them very pleasant to hit.

I feel as if the only significant change from this range compared to the last is just the 245. I haven’t seen any pros in the 241. As for the 3’s I think the looks of the 223, smash the 243. Very interested in how these compare though. Great video!

I’m actually glad they aren’t much different. I started out with a set of MP221s when they came out…realized I needed help up top and added 5-7 iron in the MP223s and played those all through last season…my conundrum has always been I cannot hit large headed clubs so GI clubs are out…I strike it well but after two hip replacements and back issues, losing some swing speed over the years…so, for this year, I sold the MP221 set, kept the 5-7 MP223, and order the 8-PW in the MP224 to go with them…I really like that they made the heads slightly smaller, which I prefer. Hopefully they come soon!

    • @AskGolfNut

Keep an eye on the gapping as the 243s have a slightly reworked loft and also head design so blending with the old especially old in the long irons may need some tweaky on the loft going forward 👍🏻

If I had to do it again, I would still get the 243 because of the extra bounce and custom shafts. My only suggestion for Mizuno would be a 247 cavity option that is slightly bigger and even more forgiving than the 245 with the same thin topline as 243.

Definitely will see a difference coming from 64s to 243s. It's the guys that have already got 223s that may or may not see a difference. The 64s although great clubs, put them up against the 243s and it's not a fair contest, especially on off centre strikes 👍🏻

Would you say there is a distinct difference in the “nothing feels like a Mizuno” between the 223/243 and the JPX Tour? Great video, really appreciated, as the 223’s and Tours are at discounted rates right now on numerous websites (even still in custom options at certain sites). I do know my custom fit spec, so logically to save a couple hundred £££ would make sense for 223’s but you said it….I just love shiny new toys😂. The dilemma continues.

JPX923 Tour feels nicer throughout the set than the 223 and 243s, the JPX923 Tour is 1025E all the way through with copper, the 223 and 243 are Chromoly in 7 upwards 👍🏻

Hi Jay, I have been fitted for these. Obviously only ever fitted with the 7iron. I am loving them first off, but I am not getting a great deal more distance from the 5 and 6 vs the 7iron. Very likely this is down to swing speed. Now I've made some drastic changes in my swing over the last 2 years but whilst making these changes I've never really swung out of my boots as I focused more on strike.
What's the most effective way of increasing swing speed (assuming my strike is already great)
    Thanks!
Edit: I moved from HMP as I just don't enjoy hitting such thick irons. I find the thinner face and softer feel, confidence inspiring.

I bought the 243s and I like them but feel that they perform better if the miss is on the toe side vs the heel. My miss is towards the heel so I am searching for an iron that favors that miss.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Před 5 měsíci

By the forgiveness data they are more forgiving on the toe than the heel for sure, although many are the same. The Srixon and also the Cobra are worth watching as by memory they are very good from the heel 👍🏻

    • @lkae4
      @lkae4 Před 5 měsíci

I think most irons are the same. You could try choking up on the grip or maybe checking out Edel SMS Pros. Those can be configured for heel bias. But the sweet spot is smaller and they offer no extra speed. I recommend 160yd+ 7 iron carry for the SMS Pro.

Mid teens h/c , based around being short but keeping it in play.
Definitely not a blades player, but having had my Benross VeloCT irons for over 12 years.
Would this sort of iron be the right place to look.
Basically modern prices scare the bejesus out of me so I'm thinking the older set in a similar set up as my existing.
    Or is that bad logic.

      @AskGolfNut  Před 5 měsíci

I've done a video surrounding this......
      czcams.com/video/AnEnsLbcJfE/video.html
Best way to shop for irons and narrow down the huge amount of choice is go by this very simple rules .....
      How much forgiveness you need?
      How much help with launch?
      How much help with Distance?
How much does Feel enter into the decision?
All of those above will determine your correct choice in that order.
Don't go by handicap as handicap is a measure of score and not necessarily strike consistency or club requirements 👍🏻

Pure chance but happened to drive past an AGD after making my delivery & popped in to have a look at the 243s in the flesh. Nice😎
Unlike previous experiences in some of their stores, I was invited to hit a few😁
Not to waste a free hit took them up on the offer.
Chap asked my swing speed 75-78.
Previous fittings had been 2° flat but they only had std or up.
Have to say Top Line hits the spot as did my ball striking.
He suggested Recoil 95 had following numbers:-
    Club 75
    Ball 102
    Carry 143
    Total 150
    Spin 6200
    Attack -5°
    Path -1.5°
    Height 38 ft
    Decent 38°
Range balls Trackman tweeked to compensate.
He was concerned about decent angle & proceeded to try graphite shafts.
Then offered Wilson Staff CB top line looked thick in comparison but felt same as 243s with same numbers.
Also offered P770 looked wrong at address. Could it be lack of chrome😂?
Question is do the trackman numbers make sense?
Visually the flight & decent looked good enough to stop.
By the time I'd finished did get 78mph 147 carry 160 total spin 6500, attack -5°, path 3°

It is interesting with the 243s, really they should be seen as the updated 223 from a retail point of view. Make an already great iron a smidgeon better with a new number on it.... 243. It's not ever going to be marketed as a massive beater of the 223, but more so the new model so it can be custom fitted as before.
