      This was so helpful to me because I am not a beginner because I used to crochet alot of things. But now that I am older,I am trying to relearn how to crochet!! The major problem I have is trying to wrap the yarn around my fingers!! This tutorial as well as all the other ones are fantastic!!And I spend half of my day on Utube and so many of my friends kids are having babies and I want to be able to make things for them. I just have tried to look for cute patterns rather than practicing with all your fantastic tutorials. I must watch them half the time and with your help I think I can finally master this!! I was Finally able to get a yarn tension holder made. I even asked,at one point,if you would make me one and I would pay you for it. I thank you for all your weekly emails and all your new web pages etc. If I can finally master this, it will all be because of you:):) God Bless you and I will stay in touch. I had started a baby blanket and I was going to send you a picture of it, but I was too embarrassed because I think because the yarn is so bulky, half of the time I couldn't even find what stitch to go into!!! I started to knit it, but I have been forced to live in Healthcare center and noone around here knits or crochets.!! Now I found a cute car seat blanket and the baby is already here and I finally realized that it was too big of an undertaking. I am sorry this is so long , but I feel that you are my new friend ❤ and I wish you all the luck in your new home in Japan. You are brave. I will close this one for now but I will be in touch with you again!!

    I just discovered this tutorial and I enjoyed it very much! Now, I'm not really a beginner (I learned how to crochet 45 years ago, at elementary school.) What I like to point out is that your crochet result is as unique as your handwriting. We can both do everything exactly the same and still have different results.The most important thing is what you said, Sigoni: It has to feel natural. So for everyone who is learning: keep practising and enjoy your crochet journey! 🙂

    Thank you for this clearly explained tutorial. I've been crocheting for decades and noticed that different yarns require different tension techniques. For example, right now I'm working with a sport-weight acrylic yarn that's super slippery. To control tension with this yarn, I wrap it twice around my pinky, over and under, then wrapped around my pointer finger. For bulky yarns, no looping needed. Trial and error should solve any challenge. Now I'm going to make a tension regulator gadget -- that sounds so cool and could help with my slippery yarn.

    I just started learning yesterday. One thing that I really appreciated in this video was that you showed how much the yarn is supposed to move as you work - now that I’ve actually seen that, I think it’s going to make a huge difference in my consistency with tension. Haven’t seen that before. Thank you so much!

    I’ve been crocheting since I was a child (I am 33 now), my grandma taught me how to do it and I would like to believe I am pretty good at it. But she never talked about tension, so I came here to learn what that was all about. Great video! Also, love the yarn you are working with! What is it called?

I'm using Color Made Easy in this tutorial, but unfortunately it was discontinued 😭 In the video I'm posting on Saturday I'll be talking all about this yarn and how to find discontinued yarn if you're interested in checking that out!

    So , I have been crocheting a few months now and working on a long project started hurting my yarn holding hand. Doesn't help that I'm using a fingering yarn so I needed the tension to taut the yarn. Looked up another video and didn't really help me crochet comfortably. THe method that you demonstrated on loose crocheters is exactly the one that my fingers naturally go into (Was wrapping my yarn in various methods to test it out)!! Thank you!!!

    I read some comments and I saw that other people are like me, sometimes it’s to tight and sometimes it’s to loose! Ugh! I’m gonna try your tips and I hope they work for me. I have been crocheting for a little over a year! Not consistently though! I keep quitting because I can never get the tension right. I have been practicing chaining 30, then undo it, and chain 30 again, over and over. I didn’t have any tips to go on though… so thank you so much for taking the time to do this video!

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  Před 2 lety

      I hope this video helps! Just remember that tension affects everyone differently, and there are also many things that affect tension. Here are some more tips.
      1. Make sure you're sitting comfortably in a chair when you're working.
      2. Prop your elbows up on a pillow if you're feeling uncomfortable,
      3. Experiment with different hooks - I HIGHLY recommend Clover Amour. They make a world of a difference.
      4. Use a yarn bowl or yarn dispenser to keep your ball from flopping around all over the place
      And that's all I have off the top of my head but I have more crochet tension tips here czcams.com/video/4c04CaV5mYk/video.html

    Thank you for this helpful video. I self taught myself to crochet, and I am struggling with my projects being the correct size. I can get gauge, make the project and it be to small. Mostly hats. I am also finding that just because yarn says 4 medium, they are not all the same. Some 4 medium yarns I have used look more like a 3? Any suggestions? I am getting more confident in my stitches and love challenge of learning this and really want to continue but tired of making projects that aren't true to size.

    My first few tries were crazy inconsistent, though I am for sure a tight crocheter. After watching this, and a bit of mindful practice, I realized that I was trying to make the loop exactly the size of the hook, which would leave no room for anything later. As I was struggling to pull the hook through, I was subconsciously squeezing the working yarn resulting in crazy tight stitches when I got it through and crazy blown out stitches when I overcompensated the slack.
