I am 75 yrs old, time to learn something new to keep my hands busy during Covid, this is so well done for my slow brain!
I find that extremely cute for some reason, hope you learned this !
Hope you like it it’s extremely cute for some reason👍
I’m 35 and I also need it as slow mo as possible. Get me a sloth 🦥 to teach me plz! 😂😂😂 I’m right there with you sister!
@can i make a blanket With this stitchsw
Good for you Sue. Love that you are working to keep your brain sharp. I hate the saying, "Can't teach an old🐕 new tricks". I say excuses, excuses, they're like A-holes, we all have'em and they all stink! We should all try to continue learning no matter the age. God bless you 😘
I'm literally crying how do people make whole outfits out of this? I've been trying to learn for 3 years!!!!!
Edit: I give up. I'll donate all my stuff I cant do this. This is so painfully confusing
Edit 2: I figured it out and now I have my own little business of selling crocheted bees! Please enjoy my rollercoaster of emotions Edit 3 HOLY COW THATS A LOT OF LIKES! Thank y’all! Crocheting is still going strong.
Ha ha ha I love the whole journey! But I'm glad that you figured it out! I just started yesterday and I'm getting very frustrated. My grandmother has been crocheting for years and she tried to help me, but video chatting just isn't the same. But seeing something like this is reassuring. I'm gonna keep going and keep learning.

If you guys are still having trouble, there’s no shame in finding another video/teacher who might be able to explain things in a way you understand. I’ve watched several videos now from several creators, and this creator explained how to start a new row in a way that I was struggling to understand from another creator. I appreciate her going so slowly. Thank you.
I experienced same. After watching this video I am much more confident 😅🥰
Same here ❤
This is exactly what I did! Went through a bunch of videos & took techniques from most of them!
Do you always go through the 2nd hole or is that just when you’re starting a row?
Same!
Today is the first time i went to my grandma’s house since she died over two years ago. I was totally overwhelmed by nostalgia and grief and love all mixed together. I found her old knitting basket and inside was a project that I had started with her over 20 years ago (a pot holder lol) that I abandoned because it was too hard for me. She saved my little scrap of messy yarn all these years 🥺❤️ I feel a longing in me to try it again in her honour and I have to say, this video was WONDERFUL! Perfect pace, easy to follow, and it touched my heart that you added in a tip from your own grandma about threading the needle ❤️ thank you so much for your time and guidance
Aww. 🥺 I hope your project goes well.

For all the people getting frustrated: I got stuck on the first row for MONTHS; I could do the first basic stitch but when it came to making the second row, I just kept getting stuck. Today, I gave it another shot and I finally managed to overcome that burden and now I'm on the way to my first actual project! Keep trying :)
Do you have any tips for how to do the second row? I try to get the hook through but it takes me so long to get it through even just the first stitch.
@@kessiagrace So, It seems to be that you are making your chains too tight. Try to loosen up when your pulling it through!! Doing to tight can make the holes almost invisible 🥲

💯 Agreed, I have learnt so much here with her patience and understanding us as Beginners 👍💯💛
Despite how old this video is, I am extremely thankful for it. It covers so many of the problems of what I am doing wrong as a beginner crochet crafter. Thank you for being so basic and simple in your video. My mother in law tried showing me how to crochet, but never expressed something as simple as rotating the hook. I will be attempting this tomorrow but I am going to watch this video a few times before I do. I have learning difficulties, so I am extremely grateful 🙏 for this video. Keep teaching in such a patient and kind way. Thank you.
Me too, I've learnt so much here
i havent. tried rotating the hook YET. this video shows what i have had trouble with-which are FIRST stitch and LAST stitch . i have watched a few videos and can honestly say i am learning something from all. it is rather difficult to explain what is going wrong naturally because its all in YOUR head. my advice is as a novice and certainly not in the flush of youth try different videos {certainly this one} and bit by bit it comes together. please DO NOT call your brain slow.....

Thank you so much for this video. I am in my 40s and have wanted to learn how to crochet for YEARS!! This is the first video that I’ve come across that I’ve been able to follow. I can’t wait to learn how to crochet more projects. My goal is to crochet a tiny pink stuffed elephant for my infant niece. Thanks again. You are awesome for making this video.
This video has been out for 5 years by the time I wanted to learn and let me tell you it was wonderful. You did an amazing job teaching me the basic steps. Im 55 y/o and recently disabled, so I have a lot of time I need to fill. A friend taught me crochet a week ago, and after several hours of CZcams videos, this one helped me finally understand how to properly do the single crochet stitch. Thank you for going slowly for us beginners, and for showing such close up and detailed views of the yarn. I'm looking forward to learning more from you.

Thank you so much Kristin. You are very patient. I am 81 years old and quite an accomplished knitter and it has been a thrill for me to get the basics of crochet through my thick skull at last, after trying (only occasionally) to learn from a HOW TO CROCHET BOOK. I can't tell you how thrilled I am and very grateful to such a lovely young person with so much patience.
THANK YOU for this video! I watched two others before it and kept messing up & having to start over. After 2 hours I was about to give up and decided to give it one more try! Hi Kristine,

This video is just about perfect. Lots of videos out there try to teach everything at once, but I just wanted to do one thing at a time, and you perfectly explained the start and end of rows pitfalls that were turning my practice rectangles into trapezoids. Omg I am a recovering addict. I been clean 4 years. The trick to me staying clean is learning new stuff so I cross stitch, and I paint I can make cloths and quilt. Hand quilting takes forever but I love it. Now I need a challenge. I have been idle that is dangerous for me and my family. I have tried everything to learn this. I am telling you that from the moment I turned your tutorial on I learned that the back of the yarn tells me what needle to use! Your the 1st that showed this. I am so happy. Do you knit? I will do crocheting for a year or so master it then try knitting. I heard there is a ton of different stitches with crocheting. I want to thank you and so does my husband. He said that's the 1st time you didnt throw your yarn. Lmao. Thank you so much!
Tanaya Harris so glad you’re doing better :)
Tanaya Harris congrats! I must say knitting I learned first and it’s very easy. Crocheting I’m not amazing at, bcs it’s more difficult
hey thats really cool that this stuff has helped u! i love to hear stuff like that:)
Harrison Levin That’s so funny, because I knit and think crochet is great, because it’s easier! 😊
Glad you're recovering. All the best.
I have been going through CZcams basically looking for you! I have watched so many beginner videos and getting frustrated but your demonstration is by far and away THE BEST I have seen. So GLAD this was in my feed today! This is it! I need look no further, FINALLY…! as it is SO time consuming! You have clarified questions I had as a beginner and really zoomed in to where one can actually see which hole to insert the crochet hook into instead of guessing at it and doing it half heartedly out of frustration. You demonstrated to beginners all the basics and essentials that we need to know to get started! For example; turning your project so that you can see the difference in both sides of the swatch and how to rotate the hook, then turning the fabric/yarn back up on the hook, tension, how to hold the yarn in other hand and more....just so much and again, you gave us EVERYTHING we need to know! I was getting so frustrated and aggravated so thank you a million times!!!! I’m looking forward now to finally start and complete, most probably, a scarf to start with!! Thank you again!!😊
i havent even watched this but you are a SAINT for even having the idea. this is on my CRUCIAL AND MY FASHION pliaylists. may you walk under your blessings miss

This video is the reason why i can crochet whatever I want now. I know its been years since this was posted, but this video was the first big development i had in my crochet skill. Thank you, Kristin!
I have been trying to learn how to crochet for years but having watched this tutorial today and the way you describe and show how to start I am really looking forward to follow your programme.. I am due to retire and have been knitting for many years and do many other crafting projects along with sketching and painting. I have always wanted to crochet, now I can follow you and start learning, very clear instructions from you make it less daunting.
I knit and have recently started to get interested in crochet as well. slow video demonstrations like this (rather than still pictures) really help me understand the geometry of the stitches. Thanks so much for making this!
Thank you so much for this video omgggg. I was about ready to yeet my yarn into the sun. Every single other "for total beginers!" video I watched earlier was like "okay, so starting off you just chain 3 then double crochet..." O__O excuse me.
I hate when they just start right off throwing the crochet jargon at ya like your some kind of freakin expert🤣

I just ordered my first crochet kit. I love how slowly you did the stitches and how well you explained each step. Most people do it so fast, that I can't get past the chain stitch, when I tried to learn years ago. I think with your excellent tutorial, Ill finally be able to learn. Thank you so much. I am in long-term care and have nothing but time on my hands, and I am getting bored making hats on my loom all day. I am excited to watch more of your videos and learn more stitches! Thank you! I just picked up a hook and yarn yesterday and I couldn’t find any one doing tutorials slow enough for me until this one!

I feel like I actually can move from weaving simple “friendship bracelets” to making useful things! Much love!
This helped me so much. After my step mom trying to teach me for YEARS, I can finally do it. Planning on making her a scarf for Christmas this year now.

A bit late to comment but from a left-handed person to another left-handed person , keep going.. If i can make it to 2 row i know you can too.
I'm left handed and I found it easier to just attempt with the right hand.
I'm left-handed as well,I got the slip-knot and the single stitch down but can't make heads or tails of how tto start the second row!! Why can everyone else make this so easy and whip up a darn blanklet in 3 days and I've been at this for an easy month!! I should've brought my knitting needles with me!!
I too am a lefty almost in tears trying to be self taught crocheting. I keep hearing that it’s easier than knitting. I beg to differ. I’m already on my second knitting project. It’s 1:30 a.m. and this is my 99th time ripping up the chain and first row of single crochet. When I’m at wits end with trying to get off the ground with crocheting, I knit a few more rows onto my multi-colored winter scarf project. I’m considered a beginner knitter!
I've watched about a half a dozen beginner crochet videos, and I honestly think this one is the best. Thanks, Kristin!

Hands down best video to learn. Thank you so much for posting. I’ve been watching other videos all week and couldn’t make a single chain lol I just made so many watching this, so easily. there is a crucial step you verbally explain that other videos do not- when you are going to yarn over, you have to flip the hook down before you pull it through, which I was skipping completely, so it just kept twisting and not making the connection. So I finally did it. Onto the next step. Thank you!

Thankyou, I’m a first timer at crocheting but this video really helped me out❤
THIS IS THE VIDEO that taught me how to crochet. I watched so many videos and this was the only one that was the perfect tempo. I’ve shared it w others who want to start. A silver lining to the Covid days!
Loved this! My grandma thought me many years ago. She passed away around 2 months before my wedding this year. She had started a gift for my husband and I. I was needing a refresher to be able to finish it, this was just what I needed!
I just bought a crochet set. The instructions went from “crochet one row” to “crochet row 50” with no imbetween :(
I did it! I crocheted a square! Thank you for this, it really helped!
Yay!
I think I have the same set and that's why I came here too
I've done everything in my power to make it but it still doesn't work i only have 1 line of chain stithes only please help me with this
You are the first person that actually made sense on how to do this! Thank you so much!!
This is the only video that actually made since to me. Thank you
Definitely this video! I've watched several and I must have managed to find the pro version of "amateur" because they made it look easy but I was completely unable to accomplish it. Everything from the way you hold your yarn to the way you explain how to hook makes this SO much easier. I had a EUREKA moment when I tried your way. Thank you!
This made me smile, thank you for taking time to comment!
This is exactly what I needed to learn! Struggled the most with holding the working yarn in a way that didnt leave me with droopy or too tight yarn to work with, and I find I dont love the acrylic yarn I chose, but this super basic tutorial was great, Thanks Kristin!

I finally came across a crochet tutorial that it slow enough for me to understand! I’ve recently been looking for CZcams videos explaining how to crochet and none of them made sense until I found this one. Thank you! 💖
I'm about to start crocheting for the first time and I've been watching tutorials before I even buy my stuff. And after watching like 10 tutorials I have to say that I am EXTREMELY impressed by yours. Best tutorial I've watched so far. It was slow, simple, and also I love how realistic you were about it looking silly at first, etc. I will be watching this again when my beginner kit arrives in the mail!
Like everyone else, thank you! I literally just started crochet today - bought my hooks & yarn & found your video. I am on my 3rd row (the part after you said your loop needs to be on the right). I actually found it easy to to follow! I appreciate it.
Thank you for taking time to comment!
This really helped, I had no idea how to start a new row, even after several videos, I finally realised how to do it after watching this
You are a Godsend! Thank you for going so slow and thoroughly! I enjoyed it and no tears!! Looking forward to creating items of beauty and warmth!
My Niece wants to learn to crochet. she's in the UK and I'm France, so too far to help - I found your video and sent it to her. I think it's brilliant for beginners - You're a super teacher.
TThat is the best crochet tutorial I've found. You put my mind at rest as I had stopped trying as I could not find out what I was doing wrong to get a twisted project, now I know that I was not doing anything wrong. Thank you.
