- Hardened steel leg armor made by Robert MacPherson, with additional pieces by Jeff Wasson, (www.wassonartistry.com) decoration and assembly by Chris Gilman.
These are nearly exact copies of a 1595 Greenwich armour that is in the Wallace Collection (London) and another armour in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC). These are made from heat treated 1050 spring steel. They weigh 1.86kg / 4.1lbs each.

there are two types of people in this world....
1 - people who randomly walk around in leg armor
2- everyone else who wishes they did...
And it hurts so much to be part of the 2nd type😭
Only two types of people you say? 😌
@@BasicPsychology101 most certainly, wearing em or wishing you could...search your feelings...YOU KNOW IT TO BE TRUE! mwhahaahahahah
Just sold my car and home for these new pair of god tier sabatons and greaves!
Had to sell my motorcycle for this hobby. I feel you 😂
You too? I did as well best choice iv ever made
As You do Sir as You do
sabaton mentioned
Need to pop up at a sneaker con and show them what style really is
These are truly insane. Absolute masterpieces. Armour perfection.
look very similar to the stuff henry VIII wore, on display at the metropolitan museum of art in new york city, many such examples there
@@MrTsiolkovsky These are, AFAIK, a tad later, during the time of his daughter, Elizabeth I. Rumour has it that the noblemen tried to compete in court for her attention wearing these very elaborate and expensive suits of armour. This was one of them.
This is how you can tell armor belonged to someone, it fit. If it was someone else's he wouldn't have that level of flexibility.
Sure Cinderella
The stats on them must be insane
and then you find out it's healer gear...
😂@@excinerus
Fancy sabatons - adds 100% dexterity and 90% charm
@@excinerus as a healer/tank player, I see that as a win regardless.
Damn the Henry 7s looking fire
When I think about history I always think that firearms were invented too quickly. We were so close to armor perfection, but these suits were obsolete just a few decades too early.
Well but how would have Fights done then? Just Wrestling until one is overheated and out of stamina?
@@nocomment6421 That's pretty much how battles went. you either bludgeon you're enemy until he goes down or you throw them onto the ground and stab them with a small dagger meant to go between armor plating. most swords (if any) couldn't stab through later works of armor.
I personally think the decline in advanced armor use, was primarily a result of the nobility becoming less involved in frontline combat. With knights sticking their necks out less and less, crazy expensive armor naturally became less common on the battlefield.
Bullet proof armor wasn't uncommon during the decline of knightly warfare, in fact, firearms and plate armor coexisted for quite sometime. There's even documented occurrences of plate armor stopping bullets.
Unfortunately, the deployment of advanced armor was largely related to the military/political structure of the time. Please keep in mind, that while the people who wore this type of armor may have been highly formidable warriors, it's unlikely any of them were soldiers. Most people who wore such expensive gear were either knights, or very wealthy mercenaries. So with the gradual decline of nobility participating in frontline combat, advanced armor became less common.
I should say that I wasn't present to witness any of the medieval era, so feel free to take all I say as no more than theory, but please know that medieval firearms were a thing, and they were more or less miniature cannons on a stick. Knights fought firearms alongside crossbows and bows, and none of them were responsible for the end of knighthood in warfare.
Suffice all this to say, that there is indeed already modern flexible rifle rated armor available for purchase, priced at approximately $1,600, but only for the torso. Unfortunately no one's concerned with selling protection for the extremities in a higher rating, so we'll have to settle for shrapnel resistance for our arms and legs.
Anyways, I hope I didn't sound rude or condescending, I just really love armor, and it pains me that modern knightly tier (bulletproof) armor could easily be a thing, if only the right people cared.
In conclusion, if you want to see some cool medieval armor articulation, check out: How Medieval Armorers Made Flexible Armor, by Adam Savage's Tested. It's a great video showing some cool pieces of armor, I especially like the segment at 2:53.
Only the breastplate was bulletproof. The rest were not. Armored knights were not as invincible as people make them out to be either. Once they were knocked to the ground, they were done. @@teamhomestar4492
@@teamhomestar4492 So in short: Because feudalism was replaced by centralized governments which had their own armies independend of the contributions of practically autonomous vassals, late medieval armor, while still very effective, became inefficient, that is: the costs ouweighed the benefits when equipping what were modern armies of that time.
My heart drops at the thought of how much those cost
i give you 10k gp and a rune scimmy

Today? Not a lot. This armorsmith sells gauntlets for about $900. These sabatons are just steel with fancy paint.
@@dadevi oh. thats alot more affordable than i thought specially with the complexity of the toe area. with how much people are spending on shoes now adays i'd make these my daily wear lol
amazing mobility
the sound it makes is awesome
do you take spare organs as payment?
fascinating and beautiful. the coloration makes it easy to see the unique way it was put together.
I just realised that this armor probably was supposed to imitated roman caligae. The decoration running throu the middle immitates lacing and the brass stripes immitate sandal straps
Oh yeah, you can totally see the pattern. There was alot of references to ancient Roman culture back then, as there is now.
I really did not see that until now
true, but those are also where the edges of articulating plates are, and you might notice that EVERY individual plate has a brass border to it along the edge... so.. caligae, MAYBE, but could also just be that the sabatons need to flex dynamically, so they need a fair number ofplates
these madmen really made a real life epic tier item!
These guys were the first "Tony Stark"
The epitome of form and function
Absolutely stunning.
The Freshest of J's.
Beautiful.
armor would come in clutch in a zombie apocalypse
i sometimes view getting into my boots as too much... so as cool as this looks... it will remain in my dreams...
"How do you like my new shoes?"
Now that's some fancy boots I'll take anytime over Js.
Thats a work of art.
Bloody gorgeous.
love it! ohh the sound of stepping sounds like a horses hoof! beautifully done proportions and artistry.
Toby Capwell keeps saying real armour should be like a second skin - and I didn't fully grasp what that meant until this video.
Всегда знал, что доспех прошлого был не просто комфортен, а стимулировал
воина в битве. А то, что стоит в музеях даже назвать доспехами язык не
поворачивается, не то что бы его вообще надеть и использовать
Every major museum has entire wings dedicated to armor and it is so amazing to get to see them up close and witness the detail in which was paid to make it all fully articulating. Also, much of the "parade" armor monarchs or government high-ups wore has INCREDIBLE detail paid to the aesthetics, truly some of the most fascinating works of craftsmanship in all of human history.
Parade armour is a pretty much a fallacy. This is an armour of war. Virtually all decorated armours are intended to be used in tournaments or in battle. Just like race cars today, a great deal of money is spent to make them look look as nice as possible, but their main function is, use. There are some later 17th century armours that , while hardened steel and "real", they were made for showing off at a tournament only.
Awesome! I found you on yt I watch your work on FB
Chain mail with Brigandine is the best
Goedendag!

I need one just like this for yard work
Those go extremely hard
matchless work.
I hope he's wearing the actual museum piece like he's just showing off what he stole lmao
Bros got that Oblivion Ebony Armor.
that is just.. pretty wow
Let’s bring back suits of armor
So cool
made from metal but look flexible. perfect.
The advantages of thin spring steel. Back in the day, these were designed and engineered around hardened spring steel. If you make them in thicker soft steel or aluminum, they don't work as well.
Groovy.
That cannot be comfortable but they look dope
Why do you think so? They are very comfortable, hardly know you have them on.
Perfeitas! Eu também quero um par.😢
AoE4's Order of the Dragon's gilded man-at-arms up close.
Every man's desire
Those look oddly comfy 😅
This is so totally relatable
Fucking beautiful
If Darth Vader was an Anglo-Saxon.
Maybe we can see some process of making such masterpiece? Or at least some information about this particular leg armour. One day i want to make my own and it would be good if i know how. Can you show some articles about it maybe?
What's the sensation like? I was always curious about the tactile feel of being inside the armor.
Screw sneakers i wanna daily drive these
Goes to show exactly how advanced and efficient Late 15th Century to 16th Century armor really was.
Absolute masterpieces.
Это демонстрационка ты хоть представляешь сколько это стоило
I really want to know how something like this would perform under muddy conditions
Nice articulation. Is there a video of the constuction, fitting , and adjustments?
Thanks. My blog has a lot of information on the construction of the full harness. diligentdwarves.blogspot.com/search/label/Armour
Absolutely awesome!! It even looks somewhat comfortable! Wonder if they are?
Very
I hate breaking in new steal toe boots. Get blisters and shit. These ones still seem pretty stiff, might wanna keep working them
Fuckig beautiful
WOW
Its kinda funny how most people dont know how easy it is to move in late medieval full plate armor.
я помню в детстве 1987 году мы в очереди стояли 4 часа за этими сапогами чтоб их купить в магазине "Детский мир" города Москва
interestingly enough they look kinda comfy
They are, hardly know your wearing them
Ready for SM Club Party
Did anyone test it for running through mud and rocky road? Then cleaning process?
Looks like a goddamn Kirby drawing..
with these you would own the town, in Camelot
i want to see how you wear them
I wouldn't worry about hitting my toe finger on the corner with those.
Would these be considered work safety shoes? Asking for a friend
I didnt know the greenwich people were known for their armor making skills. But hell this works better than some shoes sold these days.
É uma dessa que eu queria pra usar durante o dia
I kinda expected some tests with them stones
Would these stop me taking an arrow to the knee?
That's the infamous Hadrien's Wall
It’s only a model.
This armor is like nukes - only highest ranks can use them to mutual destruction, so they never do. Made for museum
No need to fear creasing these, they're built for it.
Here I am with just a steel toe when I could show up to work with a steel everything
There like 16th century Iron Man boots
Nice leg pads
But seems uncomfortable for long marches
Better then Nike i believe :D
crunchy socks
Greenwich pattern armor is pretty unique. The gold inlays almost look like electronic circuitry and the suits all have retrofuturistic cyberpunk looks. Italian armor of the same time are also inlaid with gold but on a plain reflective steel surface.
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
I want all the articulation you can give me, armorsmith !!
1 2 buckle my shooes 3 4 buckle some more...
I remember that dio meme, i want to make one pair of those
Nice what happens to an arrow that hits the black part tho ?

that's some real jordan's..
Are they meant to evoke the image of military boots from antiquity?
Don't think so. The style of decoration is like this on the whole armour, so it is unlikely.

So much so, you would need a lot of bread to soak it up.
