In regard to the edging issue where you see the "brown" in the roots because of the heat, I switched from using a blade edger where it cuts veritcal to a string trimmer where I can cut an angle into the transition between the grass and concrete. You still get the visual pop of the edging between the grass and concrete, but you can "hide" the lower session of the grass because of the angle.

Ryan, got my Greenworks dethatcher and used it on my front lawn yesterday. Here in Michigan it was going to cool down and rain for the weekend so I thought it would be a great time to try and renovate. My lawn is nice and healthy with no weeds just a mishmash of grass types and want a more uniform look. Dethatched and picked it up put down seed and topped with a thin layer of peat moss. I experimented with this last week in a small area in backyard and it already 3 inches tall and lush. Have used a lot of your method and my water bill for 3 months was crazy but I have the greenest and best lawn on the block and soon to be better.

I was dealing with dollar spot and heat stress. Figured enough of this. Raked debris, spot core aerate, applied (first time) XGR 8-1-8, and had help from tropical storm Isaias. Much better. Will overseed soon. Your decking looks good. Thought you would continue overseeding with kbg in the backyard to rival with the front yard prg.

What do you recommend I do? I was planning on spraying the weed killer again, a week later lay down scotts disease ex. Cut the grass short, overseed, then add top soil, watering small, but frequent amounts. I was planning on using a 85% tall fescue, 15% KB mix. Any tips are appreciated and thanks for the videos!

Also the comment about if you ever want it to rain just put down grass seed is true. I decided to hit a few spots that had bad drought damage this year due to extreme heat and lack of rain. I don’t have irrigation so it’s almost impossible to get every spot covered well. That being said that hurricane came up the coast and we got slammed with rain in upstate NY and two days later another 3” dumped on us. Had almost 8” of rain in 3 days

Just scalp the back as low as you can go, maybe some leveling and then fert bomb it then keep it cut at that 1in hoc you want. Which is the same hoc I keep my backyard at which is like 70% blueish-green color bent grass then a mish mash of every cool season grass type mixed in. The bent has really spread and liked the 1 in hoc I've done the past couple seasons which i've come to like cause it so soft to walk on and i got a big maple tree in the back so whatever grass grows, grows.

Here in Connecticut, temperatures seem to be above average for this time of year. I need to do a Fall lawn renovation, but it's almost mid-August and air temps are still reaching the 90's. First frost is expected to be early October.
How do I overseed if air temperatures aren't between that golden zone of 60-75 degrees for germination? It's a battle of seeding in the heat vs running out of time to grow a new lawn.

The leaves do fall, so sunlight does pass through for a decent amount of time during the day. Lows for the year rarely get below 32 degrees, but summers are long, and brutal with temps in the high 90s and low 100s for 2 to 3 months a year. Any suggestion on what kind of turf to try?
