    Gained a sub. Great info. I am in a pickle, I suspect my front yard is dealing with some fungus. Had mushrooms but the lawn was green. Now it’s got some brown areas but nothing that looks like circles of brown. It’s more uniform areas of brown. Picked some grass blades and they seem to indicate some form of fungus but I’m not sure which one. I know my lawn is also due for nitrogen, but am afraid to apply because I know that could make it worse. I usually use feature powdered iron, 6-0-0, and urea. I use a battery powered sprayer. I just put some disease ex down. May just wait a couple weeks, apply more disease ex, then go from there. This stuff is a constant battle it feels like

  • @dafinestnva

    I've seen LCN and others put the grass blade in the palm of their hand and fill the whole camera view with their hand, which makes the camera focus on close only. Holding the blade, the camera is still focused on the lawn down pass the blade of grass in your hand. I guess it will only focus on one or the other, so you have to trick it. That will save you from having to buy another camera.

  • @samuelt1953
    @samuelt1953 Před 3 lety +3

    It's because it's focusing on your hand try using a dark towel or a dark colored piece of paper and set it on it and it'll focus in better on it don't use white because that's a white balance color we used to use when we white balance chart cameras

One area that has almost no disease however is a soccer field area in the back yard that I reel mow at 1 3/4 inches! It looks perfect. Your short cut KBG seems to be looking great also.

      It's because he's in North Carolina (what's known as the transition zone) and has Fescue grass for his main yard/house. Other grasses he talks about are on his test plots. During this time of year it gets 90-100 degrees plus and fescue is a cool season grass that has a hard time in those high temps. It can withstand the heat better in the summer at a taller height, 4"+. You can go shorter when it's not so hot but it tends to do better at taller cut heights.

    • @mburke1211

      Pick some grass blades in the most brown areas and look for lesions and needling. If it’s as widespread as you describe, and you have been hot and dry, it’s likely heat stress. From my experience, it’s takes 2 to 3 years of consistently following Pete’s program to build your Turf’s heat stress tolerance, so it will make it through summer without a lot of heat stress. Your soil will be less compacted, and the root zone will be deeper over time, so the grass can access deeper moisture . I hope this all makes sense. Patience and consistency is key.

    • @JeffSmith-eq3kc
      @JeffSmith-eq3kc Před 2 lety

      Many, many, many different types of fungus. Some are harmless and even brown patch is relatively harmless. Come fall the turf would grow through the brown patch but it'd be ugly all summer. Diseases like pythium blight, necrotic ring spot and a variety of root rot type diseases will kill your turf permanently. Fungus is in your soil and when conditions are correct it will take advantage and give you problems.

    Pete- love your channel! I have a question for you that maybe some other viewers would like to know.
    Will it hurt to spray a fungicide if you don’t know if you really need it. Will it harm healthy grass or discolor it?

      No. It’s just preventative…. He even said it at the beginning. I usually put some out at end of June because rain is awful in my area in July

      I got some now after rains and high humidity, so I guess I will apply.
      I had some seed in that I was watering everyday.
