It's great to see people keeping these on the road. 91/92 white-framed years with the Cagiva-era logos are definitely the best looking. Period-correct Forza, Fast By Ferracci or Termignoni carbon fiber cans would be nice to compliment the rest of the carbon parts, but that's personal preference. A friend's father had one of these exact bikes when I was a teenager in the 90's - it's stuck with me to this day as one of the most beautiful bikes ever made. Thanks for sharing!

I think that the beauty of these “mid year” SS models is not only the simple styling, but also the simplicity and openness of the whole bike in an exotic kind of way. On the exhaust, I purchased this bike in 1994 with a couple of thousand miles on the bike. The original owner had installed the Staintune low mufflers on the stock header. I forget now how I discovered the Staintune spaghetti header but I remember that it was only compatible with high mount mufflers. Since myself and my buddies liked the way the Staintunes sounded, the search was on but there were none to be found. I contacted the factory in Australia and they were like “sure mate, we can build them”! It took awhile to get them but they did it. I thought that was the coolest thing. Funny story on the exhaust, in 2007 when we took the bike to Ducati Days during Daytona and won the award in the video, I also entered the exhaust competition, the crowd was nuts for the bike but the judging was done by two Italian guys in for the event. I had them all covered hands down but the winner had a very rough bike with a badly corroded stock header and a pair of Two Brothers cans. I found out later that day that the winner had been hanging out with and partying with the judges the night before. Can’t win ‘em all! I was still very happy with the award we won, it’s Daytona!

You've done the bike justice! Very nice mods and restoration to the bike. I had a 1991 (white wheels and frame) version that I kept for 10 years when I lived in the UK. It had a Baines racing clutch and cover that was still going strong at 36,000 miles when I sold it. The MUSIC of this bike took me back to my old one! Urgh, the sound! Consider me very jealous! I had a 98 Monster with Staintunes and i regret selling that bike very damned day😞 Anyway, your efforts are the perfect template for my project. I assess that it’s going to be a little harder/more-expensive to get the aftermarket parts in Australia but I’ll just chip away and make it work. Congratulations on an excellent job, Chip. Ah well, it’s now a new year and we can pray that he better comes to terms with the bike in 2024🤞🏽. And yes Staintune is still a going concern. I visited their factory once in NSW and they whipped my slip-ons off and gave them a cheeky polish without me even suggesting. They’re very proud of their product and it shows. We, the Western world, need more manufacturing entities like them.

It was another exciting year in GP, the battle for the championship was close. My wife is a Peco fan, I was pulling for Jorge Martin to make it fun, I do like him and his style is exciting to watch. Peco is a steady man and that wins championships! Should be a great season, I hope Mark does well on his Ducati. Great story on the Staintunes, just a solid product. Glad you enjoyed the video, it was fun to make. I do have some more bike content coming up, in edit soon.
Thats an amazing bike and all the personalised touches you added to it make it even more better. Ive just finished full resto on my 1994 600 supersport. That vent hose that comes from the tank through the steering stem goes down the right side of the frame down near the right engine cover and meets those other hoses.
Great to see everything you've done on this bike. I have a heavely modified 92 also, your's looks fantastic. I have to mention that a setup Ohlins shock is the best modification and I plan to fit an Ohlins fork from the 90's and hopefully use the stock triples. It is a special bike to have simple electronics and carburetors. It has the soul of a classic Ducati racebike. What a beautiful bike!

Looks excellent, well done. I’ve just finished my 900SS rebuild including splitting the cases and paint everywhere. I also popped on some FCR’s and a sil motor spaghetti system, it’s like a new bike now.
@@itsthecarrs I think the FCR’s alone have made the bike all that much better to ride (although a little trickier to start!). Yours must be fun with the high comp pistons too. Next on my shopping list is an ohlins shock as the stock one I’ve got has seen better days and is pretty harsh.
@@wayne_kurr Yes, no doubt harder to start with no choke, especially if it’s chilly outside. I honestly don’t remember buying the bar ends. I usually remember where everything came from, they may be stock. 30 years of ownership, a lot has happened.
I rebuilt my 98 cr last winter, and this winter I'm doing the cosmetics. These engines are known for the oil galley plug coming out of the crank. When I was changing to JE pistons I noticed the plug was visible so I had to split the cases. Have you checked your crank plug? Awesome job by the way. I went with the same fuel ''y''.

Thank you Jason! Those are the Marvic Penta Two’s. I had to buy a 20 mm front axle from a later 900ss. I believe 96 on uses a 20 mm. No modifications to the forks to accept the larger diameter axle. The ends of the 20mm axle are the same as the 17mm stock axle. Thanks for watching!
Maybe a little but you have to remember, air flows through the cooler also and Ducati also moved it to a high mount on later models. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@itsthecarrs Yeah but the air will be picking up heat from the cooler as well so not so effective cooling for the rear :) Also on the later models they also added fairing ducts and guides to add additional airflow to the vertical. I have a 1997 with the fairing ducts and vanes to the rear and it -has- had (it's in a million pieces for a restomod :P ) a low mount cooler. On the SSie's they had even more & better ducting to the rear...
Can't be the original windscreen, because the instrument cluster is not original: the '82 did not have an oil temp gauge. The addition of that gauge required a slightly different windscreen... But it IS an extremely nice bike...
