UPDATE: At today’s hearing, J. Thomas Anderle ruled that Christine must vacate the Carpenteria compound by July 31. Kevin had requested a July 13 move-out date and Christine asked for August 31. Christine‘s attorneys have now asked for an extension until August 15. As I opined in this video, the judge’s ruling was based squarely upon what was in the “four corners of the agreement”, and his decision enforces the PMA thus far. A hearing is set for July 12 on the interim child support issue and another hearing has been set for November 22 to determine the validity of the PMA. As I also discussed in this video, should the PMA be deemed valid Christine may be forced to pay Kevin’s attorneys fees and expert fees. It is my hope that the attorneys are furiously working on a settlement so that this does not drag out, not to mention it would be in the best interests of the children!
Just watched part 1 and also the attachment you recommended and my original observation (see below) that there may be something/someone else involved here. By the way I am in the U.K. and worked as a PA to the matrimonial/family law partner of a large law practice for 15 years.

I’m hoping the judge continues to reinforce the validity of the PMA, sooner rather than later. There doesn’t need to be any new ridiculous precedents set that would invalidate PMAs going forward. Oy vey! The properties were all Kevin’s before the nuptials

Well, if it was truly enforcing the PMA I am thinking he would have shortened all of that time line... July 31st is how much longer than the PMA required ? I have lost track... She likely wants to move... the market here in CT is ridiculously HIGH... not sure about out there. I mean, I would shoot for an oceanfront home. Their home was made up of 3 homes turned into a compound on the ocean... I would buy one not so close though, erosion happens. LOL In relationships and real estate. 😉

At 49 she can still work for a living. It is good for mental well-being to be self-reliant and self-sufficient. With her millions from the divorce and monthly child maintenance support from Kevin, she’s far from being poor. Plastic surgery should not be Kevin’s responsibility.
I am usually for the man. Females as a majority are after money, their divorces are usually based on greed and vitriol. Vitriol when it comes to children. They will do anything to keep the father away as much as they can from the fathers. Even false accusations. Who divorces because the man does not give them anough attention because he works for his family?
Alimony. What a joke. A reason for a woman not to work again. Some states it is for a time limit, others for life, others till they marry again. They can take his house leaving him homeless. His pension. Virtually everything. And then virtually no time with his kids and paying most of the costs for the child/ren. Never a question in family court if she is getting a job, what she is going to contribute, etc. Yet he must prove he can be a good father to his children, have an income, a home. Every closet is opened of his life to ensure no skeletons. Her? lol!

Thanks for following this. Christine should understand that some of us who have worked since we were 12 and then became chronically ill live on 1500. A month. My lifestyle is nowhere near what it used to be… but sacrifices must be made to survive. She’s an entitled woman and it’s gross. I supported myself and my children their entire lives without their fathers presence or help. KC is being more than generous, IMO.

Great presentation Melanie. Glad to hear the judge validated the PMA as Christine had plenty of time to review the PMA and was under no duress to sign it back in 2004. That was nice of Kevin Costner to give 1.2 million dollars in the event of a divorce. The judge should say what is reasonable for child support based on realistic costs not what Christine feels intitled to .
Dying to know what went down in today’s hearing! I always feel bad for the man - If he was still in that series making $500k a show, she is essentially asking for 100% of his gross salary, and he would still need to sell off assets to pay the taxes on it to give it to her tax free PLUS sell off more to pay 100% of the children’s expenses, as well as support them in his own home. Family Courts seldom have a reality check on complicated finances and treat the man like an endless well of money - this who notion of taking one pot of money and requiring the man to create two equal lifestyles on the same salary is beyond nuts.

I ask why would his wealth be menacing towards the future direction of this planet? Also I always considered him a billionaire instead of a millionaire. I'm sure he's not been negligent with his investments.
She signed a contract to move out as soon as she filed for divorce. It is possible to stay there without encountering each other but that is not what is in the contract. Bye.

It seems that though he is worth what appears to be around 400 million, the bulk of that is in real estate and so to his point he would have to sell off assets in order to meet her requests. It also seems that his home in Carpenteria is also his work place. He has a 20 million investment in Horizon and needs that workplace in order to recoup his investment and hopefully make a profit. He has practical concerns for needing to live and work on that property. Now to the emotional side; who wants to bump into your estranged spouse at any possible moment; no one would want that. She seems very detached from that reality. I looked at real estate for rent in his neighborhood;someone let Christine know there is a 4 bedroom available for 45K per month. She has a million liquid to cover that until other arrangements can be made. If this Judge gives her more than 100k per month it would seem unfair as he is covering 100% of the childrens expenses over and above that amount. I would have cut off her credit card also if I found myself paying her attorneys fees. Maybe she should shop for a cheaper plastic surgeon. Finally, I would say nothing prohibited her from developing a work from home career while they were married; she made that choice. She wants to divorce him while remaining married to the lifestyle. It shouldn't work that way.

This is exactly why prenups are used… I wish the prenup had a clause stating that if she did not abide by the terms (if she contested) then she would not receive anything!!! Of course, the children would be taken care of!!!

Another excellent show! In last week's episode, I wondered why they should be arguing about money when there's a prenuptial agreement, like you pointed out. I'm 55 and I work full-time even though I could afford not to at the moment. I want to be able to support myself if, God forbid, something happened to my husband. Like you pointed out, she could make a down payment on a home. She needs to put the children's welfare first.

I'm glad that you have an opinion that is fair to both parties. I think that Christine should have to follow the prenuptial agreement. It is not his job to pay for Christine 's lifestyle. Christine should have to find a way to support herself. Kevin is willing to support his children and the kids should not be used to get a larger settlement and against the other parent.
If the prenup was made with the intention they would have children, it should stand. If they agreed without having children in mind then that may frustrate the agreement.
Therefore it should stand, because Christine insisted on having kids😂!
After my divorce, I sold my wedding band (needed cash) and kept my 1/2 carat solitaire in case one of my kids wanted it ... divorce is devastating & heartbreaking - she lived a fortunate & incredible life with him with loads of opportunities at her feet (way more than most of us!) ... she signed the agreement - dang y'all! There's alot she can do with what he is offering plus she got close to $200k cosmetic surgery??!! He is making sure their children are well-cared for & I applaud that! Thanks M, awesome stuff!

Thank you for not making these videos into quotes from the media! In almost 20 years she had the means to go back to school! Plenty of famous actors and actresses have done it. They had the money to pay a babysitter (they’re not cheap). She could have become a famous Chef, Author, Doctor, Lawyer, Realtor, Children’s clothing designer etc.! In my opinion, it seems like he wants to keep the kids out of the media and the divorce to be low key! I would absolutely be out the door the second he received those papers (family & friends house). The argument that we must always support fellow-women always astounds me. I'm 70, old enough to remember bra burning, and I'm totally confused. Wasn't the goal of feminism to attain equality with men? Why should we then demand considerations that we not be granted to men in similar circumstances? Why shouldn't a grown woman be expected to contribute to her OWN support? Provided the children are old enough to attend school, why shouldn't she be expected to work, and to have her earnings deducted from the support? I also think it's outrageous to expect the spouse she dumped to pay for the professionals she hired to do the dumping! Has she no pride, no confidence in herself, no belief that women are the equals of men? Totally sickening IMO.

I totally ignore gossip mags but I do like seeing the meat and bones of legal filings and trials. If any of you have done any research on Kevin Costner, you will learn that he moved all over California with his family because of his father's job at Edison. Kevin started moving at a young age. His Mom I believe was a stay-at-home mom and she loved and supported Mr. Costner. Kevin's Dad of course was an Alpha Male like Kevin is and believes in a superior Work Ethic and providing for the family. Kevin is doing exactly what he was taught by example by his dad in the Work Department. I have an 85-year-old Dad who is still working so I understand Work Ethic. Why is it that Christine wasn't on site with Kevin and the kids? What kind of support has she been. Why be lonely in California and Lonely in Montana while filming? If she was anything like Mrs. Costner, she would have been right, there with Kevin as he is the bread winner. And she could have home schooled the kids or they could have hired someone. We all know they have the funds to do so. I think people ought to give Kevin a Break. He isn't perfect, none of us are, only in Christ we are perfect. Kevin is 68 Years Young, and he still has some projects he wants to accomplish. I support him.

Hi Melanie, I’m from BNE Australia and I really love your points of view and opinionated comments. ( I personally don’t think that is wrong as it’s your channel) I do watch Duty Ron and off the cuff. I loved your Part 1 episode so much that I looked for more of your videos. I also agree that the amount of money requested is outrageous. The children will be well looked after and spending 50% time at all of Kevin’s properties, so the new to be ex wife Christine’s complaint that she is concerned the kids won’t be living the way they are accustomed to should have been phrased- she is concerned she won’t be living in the style SHE is accustomed to. Lol. The kids will be lapping it all up at his beautiful places. She won’t. Oh well, that’s life. She sounds like a gold digger. 🌸🌟🌺 And just because she would rather stay in the house doesn’t make it ok that she can stay. It’s his bloody house. She got what she wanted. I agree that kevin is doing everything swiftly & smoothly, while she is causing problems. It’s sad for the kids bc they will see all of her behavior. And they will see she served him right before one of the kids bdays AND purposely messed with their vacation with their dad. That’s upsetting. She comes off as petty. What she is asking is very unreasonable. The amount she wants for child support is ridiculous. 😮 she can live in a different city near by. Sounds like she wants an easy life. The kids will always have a home with kevin if she continues to be difficult. I can’t see him kicking his kids out, especially during a time that will most likely be hard for them to process.
I watched your first video and thought you were spot on. Christine signed a prenup and of course no longer wishes to abide by it. Too bad. She has lived a guilded life. A life most of us could never even begin to imagine. What Mr. Costner offered her was more than generous. And if it too expensive to live in Santa Barbara, there are plenty of other places to move. $40,000 a month is more than enough. You go girl.
I think us women need to realize that if we give up our Financial Independence than we are setting ourselves up for a rude awakening. We can not expect to be taken care of for the rest of our lives by someone that we have divorced. Yes the children need to be considered and the expenses for their lives be shared. Once we chose to leave the marriage then we are on our own. There is no guarantee what the court will allow if there is a prenup signed. We must take care of ourselves. We can not depend on the a husband that has obviously failed us to keep us as a priority. Ladies let’s be smart! Those prenups can benefit both so don’t be too eager to get married without making sure you understand what you are signing. Walk away if it’s not what you want and don’t expect more if we made this deal! Walk away knowing you honored your word.

Christine might want to find a way to make money. What is she going to when he passes away some day. Plus, what will she do when child support is over? Also I think if you have a pre nuptial agreement a judge should follow them or they are basically useless to have.

The other interesting difference in England and Wales, child support payments are not sought after in Courts. We have a child support government service. And in divorce private school enrollment is a private contract, and Courts would not force a parent to continue paying once contracts ends.

Yep in England and Wales if you have no income getting a rental will require the person to find a landlord willing to take a risk. And normally requires 6 months payments upfront, and a guarantor.
