- In Chapter 5 of Old Show Queen, Gary Gunas and Billy Rosenfield reminisce about their favorite performances, including Mary Martin in Peter Pan, Angela Lansbury in Blithe Spirit, the ensemble of Godspell, and the West End’s The Inheritance, debuting on Broadway this fall. A general manager and producer (who worked on shows including Woman of the Year, La Cage aux Folles, and The Who’s Tommy) and a playwright and executive producer of cast albums (including Ragtime, Caroline, or Change, and The Last Five Years), Gunas and Rosenfield recently sat down with Andrew Hawkins and Jeff Marx in their London home to share their memories of the end of the Golden Age of Broadway.

I could literally sit and listen to these amazing stories for hours at a time! Despite the fact that both of you have worked at the very top of your professions for so many years - you can tell you never lost that “wow-we really do this for a living” factor. And it shows! Thank you for doing this and for giving theater wannabes like me something so pure to enjoy!
Thank you Playbill . I love these guys. This series is just what this old show queen needed!
Thank you, Playbill, for such an insightful series from this personable pair.
I Love this series. I could listen & watch these guys tell their stories forever. Thx so much for this series.
This show brings me so much joy. Thank you.
OMG! "Bring him along.." YES~! I had the exact same feeling you described when Bacall said that line! Thank you!
As soon as a new one is posted I click! Love this glimpse in Bway history and these guys are adorable. Imagine 2 men being together for 41 years! Nowadays most can’t make it past 6 months lol
Thank you for this great series!!
Binge watched all episodes. 🤓🤓💖👏👏👏
Love this!
My Jerry Herman story is so crazy no one ever believes it. In the late 90’s I was in Lynchburg Virginia to attend a funeral that took place on Christmas Eve day. Next morning (Christmas) I was getting breakfast at the hotel buffet. We Need A Little Christmas was playing on the Muzak WHILE I was getting my food. I was humming along with it in spite of the dark occasion. (I just always do that) Right then a man next to me leans over and says “I wrote that”. I said “Oh my god you’re Jerry Herman!” And he smiled and went on to his table. I was in such shock at it the crazy coincidence of it, lol. I have no idea why he would have been in Lynchburg at Christmas but always wondered if maybe he had family there.
Oh how I would love to have dinner with these guys. Love.
Love that tune from "Jenny" they use to start the intro...such a happy Mary Martin feeling indeed.....but these guys..wow..they've seen everything...luckily I think they fully realize how blessed they are😊
I feel fortunate and blessed to have seen some of the productions and people mentioned in these shows. I agree with the comment that some actors have a presence in theatre that cannot be translated elesewhere ,,,,Jane lapotaire as Piaf in Pam Gems play comes to mind immediately.
There has to be an evening with.... show from these wonderful gentlemen....
I wonder what the young maid is doing now.
She was great. She made a small role memorable in a Carol Burnett way.
She' has gone on to star in the hugely successful revival of Summer and Smoke in the West End, as well as a startling production of The Three Sisters and while it didn't open ( due to the pandemic) she played Honey on Broadway opposite Russell Tovey, Laurie Metcalf, and Rupert Everett in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf ?
