I think the reason why players are not picking Ruby as main fighter is mostly because they prefer burst damage in exchange for sustain. Heck, there are even fighters that can deal good burst damage while maintaining their heavy sustain.
Well, in reality those burst dmg heroes were more efficient, because if you're a solo player that's the best way to deal with not that good carry teammates, so can't blame them. But you can also make burst Ruby without buying sustain item that makes her just like Chou, in exchange, as you know she will became squishy.

There are way better picks if you want burst/sustain or chase like Hilda, Dyrroth, Chou, Yu Zhong and so on.
I think even Harrith does way better on exp than Alucard xD
Ruby counters so many heroes well with her 2nd skill. You can catch Fanny if you're fast, and if you're insane you can ult her. She's a massive pain to heroes who need to spam skills to stay alive, like Lance and Ling. This is one of the reasons she also makes such a good tank.
She can also counter gusion skills with her second skills too if you perfectly time it, that's why most of the time i use her if there's an enemy gusion in the enemy line up

I had low hp and aldous decided to lock on me. I just go into my turret and time my skill 2 right. Aldous ended up dying himself 🤣

Tip on using Ruby:
Ruby has 2 dashes
Forward dash is longer while Backward is shorter
Aiming her 2nd skill to a certain direction can trigger her forward dash if you also follow that aim
Some Ruby user just use 2nd skill by tapping/spamming so when escaping she mostly do backward dash(shorter)
Edit:another tip (most of Ruby main know this but..)
Ruby 1st skill has 2 damage type with same damage dealt. Casting 1st skill when enemy is in melee basic attack range can make the damage twice as effective.

yeah that extra dmg from her initial slash on the first skill helps a lot early game, especially since most people wouldn't expect Ruby to deal any good damage early

I think the reason why Ruby is preferred less is the need to dedicate your items for lifesteal for high sustainability instead of damage to help out your allies with some extra damage, making Ruby weak but incredibly tough when she's aggressive.
Edit: After a few games of Ruby, i can say my opinion has changed for the positive. But now, idk why not many people choose Ruby anymore, lol.

Idk i like that kind of fighter usually for me a fighter is lile a secondary tank you need sustain you could go for full attack but why the mm mage and core can do those better

Well its bcs exp lane is not as popular among players, she deals pretty good dmg, if u snowball early game u can feel it, and also bcs u acts as a secondary tank, only the cores will do the dmg while u tank for the team, that’s one of ruby’s specialties
well i play her as roamer tank with hard cc / interrupt. people might play her as offlane fighter with lifesteal build but i'm not comfortable taking that role especially in high rank matches.
Some reasons why Ruby is my main:
- has a built-in brute force passive (without the speed buff)
- AoE skills with CC
- free dash after skill (can pass through thin walls)
- great sustainability
- unpredictable combos (e.g. hook+flicker combo)
- fun and easy to use
I build her by default as a fighter/tank/poke with max CDR. Ruby never failed me ever since, as she's also my go-to hero especially when in solo queue

Both ruby's epic skin and cyclops seasonal skin are like the unofficial exorcist skin
Been using ruby for a while, she's underrated as an exp laner. Just used her earlier and she absolutely dominates the game especially when she has a lot of lifesteal
She isnt as versatile as uranus, esme and paquito tho

@@seemsoverseas4493 just get cd reduction boots,endless and oracle(part of her core items anyways) and u can spam s1 to move faster. Besides if you good map awarness your rotation speed wont be affected much
@@pettanshrimpnazunasapostle1992 Uranus does have slows and any cc other than slows on uranus would be op. Ruby's main weakness is cc. Whilst Uranus doesn't have to skill cast to remain tanky, Ruby does.
You also can get away with just having enchanted talisman on uranus and build him full tank after. Ruby on the other hand requires AP build for her high lifesteal she can build only haas claws but then her lifesteal falters.
I do prefer ruby for sets, but overrall Uranus is a much better hero for getting to backline with speed increase and a blink.

I once had a decent Ruby in my team before that has solo carried us throughout the game. And what was epic about her gameplay was when 4 of us are dead and she's left alone to deal against 5 enemies, she was able to kill those in 10-30 secs interval each. Her lifesteal was insane even the enemy has already equipped anti-heal items. 'Twas undeniably commendable.

I think it's more of a preference thing since most popularly picked fighters priotize outright damage with minimum sustain. Perfect for ambushes but not as much in clashes.
Ruby among other fighters falls on prioritizing sustain over pure damage. It will buy your teammates some time to catch-up in clashes. Also her role is tank/fighter which makes sense.

I feel like she’s preferred less is because of liking a high damage hero that can 1v1 and push lanes quickly, over a balanced hero that’s more useful in teamfights. Most solo queue players have bad team synergy and don’t try to understand how their team prefers to fight (ambush, baiting etc). Having good team synergy and understanding your team players method of fighting is essential for ruby mains. Because of this, most exp laners prefer a bursty hero.
Its just i dont know how to use her and her builds i dont even wanna bother learning her if i already know fighters like chou etc.

I usually use her when the team needs a fighter and also when the roamer is a support btw u can use 2 skills at the same timeand dash once and you get 2x the passive
Lolita was the other character who has gained popularity for quite sometime now(also with the pros) even though she hasn't received any major changes as well
Those flicker hooks are just amazing
One of the best part of ruby is the fast cast skill, her skill 2 can almost interrupt any skill, because her skill will always cast faster than enemy cast skill
It's been a while since I've last used Ruby but she's my main back in the days when she's not a tank.
I hope instead of gaining durability when she's dashing, she would gain additional damage so she could be a strong fighter again.

She became a tank because of her cc skills, but I actually prefer as a full-on fighter. Since that was one of the reasons back then she became my main and go to.
I somewhat disagree.. whats make her Fighter/Tank IS because of her passive, players can choose whether or not they want to play her as fighter or tank, which makes her versatile. Taking away her tanky passive will just make her less versatile and effective in teamfights, or she’ll just be blasted away before she can even do anything, even with her tanky passive, penetration is still one of the key counters for her, dont forget antiheal, cc and much more. So in my opinion, i disagree

Tips: use a specific physical emblem (not fighter) for ruby. The claw barely do lifesteal/ even if you build a life steal build in general.
I remember the time when Ruby was still immune to anti heal. Many ml players and even pro players did not know that! She is the most OP fighter at that time!

And like you said, she’s not a Paquito or a Yu Zhong(who isn’t lagging) or an Aldous, etc.
Her damage is just not enough.

Back on the good old days when I was struggling quite a bit to reach mythic for 1st time in solo Q, I ranked up using Ruby and Vale. Back on that time sometimes I was forced to play core Ruby xD, I would win like 8/10 matches with the damage build + 1 defense item. Nowadays that build isn't the best for Ruby, the last time I tried haas claws + endless battle + 3 defense items I started to notice that this was actually the best build, even though tanky Ruby players won't get a lot of kills like Paquito and Julian players, it's so funny to being a pain in the ass to the enemy team by being almost unkillable, CC and mess up their tank setups, hooking perfectly 3 enemies and it's most likely to be a secure win. Thanks to your video I'll play Ruby more often like I used to, I think Paquito is strong and funny to play while getting kills but I think my playstyle is like a Rambo 1v5 🤣

I always loved using Ruby to dance with my opponent. Especially mid to late game and everyone decides to clutter up in a group making it easy for me to use my lifesteal passive+skills.

I've recently bought Ruby and i thought she's difficult to use but then i had fun using her especially in early in exp lane. Easy to poke and get out of trouble. Has a decent damage in early game but lacks damage in mid-late game but in exchange you go for a sustain build w/ cdr and make her a non-stop cc and sustain fighter. Overall, i see her as a perfect example of a balance hero that is underrated but you can consider her as a go to exp laner with good cc and sustain.

I agree to that I can out sustain 3 heroes in early to mid game and can hold my lane pretty well. She, freya ,Guinevere and silvanna are the only fighter heroes i know and used if my role got pick and i have to adjust

That Ruby skin and Cyclops season skin are two of the ghosts the Exorcists Kagura and Yz are hunting hahahaha
I remember i always loved to play when she came out. She was soo underrated at that time and no anti life steal can affect hear which is why she was known as the lifesteal queen during her prime. Which is why the biggest adjustment to her is removing her anti lifesteal immunity

I'm a Ruby main and what I can suggest.
Build her with Blood Lust Axe and Haas Claw. Her lifesteal are skill based so Blood Lust to increase the percentage of lifesteal. Also if you really want some sustain and kinda semi tank, give her the fighter emblem that raise her lifesteal. She can be immortal in the battlefield

another reason why is because players dont know what role is she either a fighter or tank. Just a single offense item like has haas claws 50 seconds later your team respawns i like her more tanky than fighter but if the team needs a frontliner you can choose her

The main thing that Ruby isn't the first choice is because like you said she is very good in a team fight. But the majority of players are solo queue and have a bad team fight synergy. That's why most of them choose a fighter who can at least carry the team.
I main Ruby and usually the thrill I get is making the set while using her as a exp lane but with tank emblem. And I play her like how a cat plays its prey/food. I do agree with your comment Elgin that most players prefer burst dmg. Only a few people feels fulfilled when they do a great set for the team.
That's exactly my preferred playstyle. I'll endlessly bait my opponent and then when there's a small chance of turning the situation, BAM. Uno reverse card.
Unfortunately my teammates just want to run head first into enemy's crowd without thinking.

Try a burst ruby, she can definitely do a 1v1 and can 1skill combo a squishy heroes, even with only 1def item she can still sustain the damage she received

I also feel like Harley is currently very balanced too. Both exp or Hp.
