  • I finally caved and bought a new vehicle to daily drive and wheel...and decided a good test would be a 4,000 mile road trip to Ouray would be a great way to test it out! I have to say, this Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is a pretty nice daily driving offroader for sure!

    I swear that section near the reservoir with the construction has not changed since I was there last August. I agree with the traffic on Imogene although we made friends with other jeeps as we waited for traffic and tour trucks to pass, that and waiting on our friends Jeep Renegade latitude to cool off as we made the climb up. We also were at the top when a rain cloud pushed through, was the coolest thing being inside a rain cloud at the top.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 8 měsíci

      I would like to see it be 1-way traffic, but it is what it is, and we didn't have as much as the last time i was there since we went on a monday and after school was back in session.
      That is one of the downsides to the Renegade and Compass not having an actual low range....just locked into 1st gear high...i've heard that quite a few times about having overheating issues doing climbs.

      The KL content will still be coming, i just wanted to skip the LONG line to get this one out sooner. Don't know what exactly will be happening to the KL if i ever get it back with a new PTU.
      Considering i KNOW this style of platform needs sliders to do a lot of stuff without door damage, after having put the RRO sliders on my KL through absolute hell for 5 years. Sliders were the first thing i did on the KL.
      However, these Chief 'sliders' weren't worth the money...imho they classify as 'better than nothing'....and i will be ordering a RRO set to replace them as soon as i am able.

    I went from a 14 KL Limited ADII (with a Passport in between) to a 19 Hemi Trailhawk Wk2. By far my favorite car even if it gives me issues here and there. Always impresses people offroad and I push it. With good tires, QL all the way up, and the E-LSD, getting stuck is usually about ground clearance (vs some rut or bad terrain). 6 Monkeys is the main shop to grab gear from these days (I went with full Chief all around before 6M really hit the scene). Enjoy!

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 8 měsíci +2

      There are a few things that annoy me in this vs the KL, the approach/departure angles are worse, and the air lift reseting the height every time you switch 'modes'.
      I also wish i hadn't gotten those &h!% chief sliders. By the end of this week in Ouray, the way these things were so easily destroyed by a couple medium trails got a couple people to decide to buy the RRO sliders. I would never consider anything from Chief "protection"....more like "better than nothing"....which is not something one should say when the products cost that much (3X more than their competition). Review for those coming at some point. I'll be buying a set of RRO sliders as soon as i'm financially able to, hoping these Chief 'sliders' survive long enough...i've never seen 'rock sliders' get this destroyed so quickly.

    • @sfdxsm
      @sfdxsm Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@FearlessTrailhawk Yea mine got dinged and banged up first true blue trail. I usually just put the Jeep in Rock mode w/ 4low and leave it there given my home base of AOAA/Rausch.
      There’s some pretty solid guides to swap the air ride out for a traditional spring/strut setup if needed. Usually the path once everyone has their first time the air ride fails on trail (and when it fails, it fails into park mode so you’re sitting on your tire). I’ve been lucky, so far…

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 8 měsíci +2

      The video i sent Chief, apparently their engineers said thats the worst damage they'd ever seen (including their own testing!!!!)...from a couple medium trails outside of Ouray. My RRO sliders took an absolute beating for 5 years and barely have the one single dent on them. These chief sliders have HOLES in them....

      Running the stock air-ride for now. Atm i stuffed some 33.4 Falken RT's under her...they are just a bit to big and do rub a fair amount at full flex. I don't plan to lift it so long as the air ride treats me well, as a full-time lift is what kills CV's.

    Mountains total bummer on your Cherokee trail hawk, I was thinking about going the other direction. I have a grand Cherokee trail hawk was thinking about downsizing to the Cherokee. Based on reviews I’ve seen on CZcams. I just need better fuel economy, and when I told my little off-road trailer, my fuel mileage drops to about 10 miles per gallon. Plus, I was hoping I get a little bit lower monthly payment.

  • @maximusstarblazer
    @maximusstarblazer Před 8 měsíci +3

    I been seriously thinking of upgrading to the GC Trailhawk myself, what really draws me is the v8 option. However I'm very concerned about the air suspension function and reliability.

    • @FearlessTrailhawk
      @FearlessTrailhawk  Před 8 měsíci +2

      The air suspension appeals to me because you get the benefit of a lift for the trails, but then keep the CV's at nominal operating angles during normal highway driving. Yeah its more complex than regular struts, but anything can fail. I've seen quite a few WK2's with air ride wheel often with no issues.
