  • Kudos to ‪@nanayaw9754‬ for your gutsy move to demolish parts of your project. I took some motivation from you and allowed the new electrician to chisel through already plastered sections of our project.

    I hear you brother …
    I am a Black American building in Accra …
    I had to fire the following tradesmen but for different reasons;
    1) Carpenter
    2) Electrician
    3) Mason
    Having said that, I have an excellent crew now … I anticipate completing my apartment building in September 2024

    Building in Ghana is not for the faint hearted. Some artisans are good and others are full of crap. I ended up going with a construction firm to build mine because they have a team of artisans so I do not deal with individual artisans because each ones comes to do their job and they leave but a construction firm has their team lead and they all come together and build and I have had my peace of mind this time round because I had to pull my whole building down and start afresh which caused me so much grief so I learned. Glad you found a good electrician this time round. Wishing you so much success in your build. Shalom

      Definitely not for the faint of heart! It is insane what we have to go through when we literally put food on their table. I am glad you found a solution that works for you as well. Thank you for the kind words! Good luck with your build!

      This is so true a lot of people try to save on the build and these are the problems u can encounter if u spend a bit more and get a reputable building company the stress is much less

      @@dannydct1; not zero though. Personally, I want to be part of the process otherwise we could have opted for a finished house. These construction firms have their issues too, unfortunately. It is endemic.

      @@dannydct1 I am involved in every step of the way. I go to Ghana every year. There is weekly video conferencing and one thing I am glad is the construction firm I used will not even start a building process if you do not have a title on your land. So they helped me get that process done. The bill of quantities is for each stage so I pay as we go with each stage. They do not bother me with anything. I went the local route the first time using different recommended artisan thinking I was saving money big mistake. I have a contract signed each step and they work when I have the funds and they are liable if something go wrong they fix it without any extra charge. I think to each his own. People need to do their research and make informed decisions that best suites them. I couldn’t deal with the wahala so got my lawyer and a reputable firm. They built my aunties home and when I saw what they did I was happy so I went with them. I wish everyone great success because we all need it trying to build in Ghana.

    had similar predicament i'd call it, all my big wires were stolen after installation thinking if i had power in them then im safe but i was wrong. spent another 25k cedis to fix them. now i comment on every video i watch on youtube about wiring to get somebody you know to live at the property. im sure that's the only way to avoid another theft. similar situation again, my previous electrician ( a quack one to say) did a very bad job so it was a blessing in disguise that the wires got stolen. i'd have being in a dangerous situation if those wires were not stolen at the 1st place. 2nd electrician did a lot of corrections and made sure the wires are not pack in 1 pipe/not held too many lines as 1 switch.

      It is crazy the things we have to go through on these projects, my sister. I am glad you guys made a decision to wait. We are lucky to now have power on site and a trusted person living there. With the P.O.P ongoing, that is added security because they stay on site during the process.

    Even though I hired a young electrician, I carefully explained the tasks he needed to complete. He assured me he understood, purchased the necessary materials, and agreed to the pricing (no negotiations). However, once the work began, he realized he had overlooked some tasks. Additionally, he was unfamiliar with certain aspects of lighting work, such as soldering LED strips. I ended up doing that part myself since I had the knowledge.
    On a Friday, he made a mistake that resulted in the lights going out in the living room. He tried to troubleshoot the issue but it took longer than expected, and he had to leave. He promised to return the next day. When I asked what time he would be coming to fix the problem, his response surprised me. He explained that he doesn't work on Saturdays and Sundays due to his commitments to church and family meetings.

    One simple trick is if the electrician is not very well educated, he's most likely not going to do a good job. I used a close friend of mine and got an excellent job. My setup was a more complicated setup.

    I think that communication is a big problem in Ghana. How can you contact someone in April and not hear back from them till today (Hopefully nothing bad has happened to the first electrician). Anyways, keep on pushing sir and I am sure that the work will surely stand the test of time 🙂

    • @GhanabaKwaku
      @GhanabaKwaku  Před 9 měsíci

      It is crazy. I am sure if I had pursued him, he would finally had communicated with me but i just had it. My mentality is this; if when you can make more money from me, you don’t communicate, how can I possibly expect you to respond to me when I have a blown switch?

    • @dotGhana
      @dotGhana Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@GhanabaKwaku yes, if you pressure them they will communicate but it shouldn't be like that in the first place. They should be the one to offer a good customer service to you by communicating and replying early.
