Building In Ghana 2024 | Electrical Wire Theft Epidemic

- A friend shared a TikTok video with me and it reminded me of our wire theft experience. We have overcome that thankfully but it is still a sore subject for me to be reminded of so it took me a while to make this video. I give some tips on how to prevent this happening on your project but I know there are other things others have done to mitigate this so please feel free to share them in the comments section.

Anytime, Em! Thrice bitten… I probably would have waited too. You case proves there is really no foolproof way to this because other humans are involved. You will get it done on your terms.

If you delved deep into this boy, there is a good chance he worked in some capacity in building the house he stole these wires from or he lives not far from where the project is situated. The only way he knows there are electrical wires in the house is either seeing the electricians wiring them/know someone who does or he knows the movement of the owner of the project or the people watching the house on the owner's behalf. How does he know that there is no one staying at the house? No one wires their house without roofing and most people wire after plastering, which means the house is near completion. If the house is near completion, in most cases someone watches it by staying there.
I also think some of these petty criminals also watch social media post and act from there too.Many of the people whose wires were stole had social media presence and I am sure there are other cases the people do not have that kind of presence yet theft befell them. In those cases, it is always a previous sometimes disgruntled worker who thinks they're getting pay back. Either way, is a crime punishable by the law. Things are getting better as thieves don't get instant justice any more, little democratic progress lol
You raise some very interesting points, brother! The social media presence one is probably the only one I might refute a bit- there are more people suffering this petty theft cases who you don’t hear about and they are not on social media showing progress of their work. For the most part most of us try our best to show what we are building without giving clear address where.
These issues all come down to people making desperate choices even if it were a disgruntled artisan. The risk involved in being caught for the small gain isn’t usually worth it.

It’s very sad I’m not going to make excuses for this boy unfortunately, all over the world poverty brings crime. Looking at his face. I could tell he’s very sad. I don’t think you should throw cold water on him. That’s very cruel and cut his hair. That’s very cruel. Why don’t y’all talk to him about the consequences next time this young people they have no hope no directions about their life about their life. It just makes me cry to see him this way 😢😔

Hopefully it worked and he doesn’t repeat this. Instant mob justice used to be the order of the day growing up and I will argue that is probably the reason why places like Nima have less cases of things like this.

Just take him to police station,but don't punish him like that,he's not an armed robber nor has he killed anyone.
And what will the police do? He is lucky they didn’t put their hands on him like is normally the case.
