Dealer quoted $5500 for the job ... and they wanted me to pay separate labor for all of those items. Parts were $1650 and tools needed were $500. This video by this guy is awesome. Very detailed to get the job done. Excellent links to get the parts and tools. I would like to add one thing that would also help everyone taking on this task, before transmission is removed, I cut a angle iron approximately 1.5" x .25" x 48" and placed it frame to frame parallel to the engine where the intake manifold was. Then ran a chain down to the hole by where the starter was and attached the chain to the angle iron above. I cut another angle iron approximately 1.5" x .25" x 30" and placed it on lower part of firewall and across bottom of the engine. Ran another chain from upper angle iron to lower angle iron and bolted the chain together. Now I did not need to have engine support in the way of removing the transmission. I was also able to lower the car on its wheels while waiting for the parts to arrive. Worked very well. Best wishes.

This issue just happened to me. I ended up selling the car because I didn't want to be bothered with paying $3000 for this fix. Idk if I'll ever buy a Ford again. The 2nd ford that took a dump on me within 4 months of ownership. Great video!

My mom got a 13 Focus off her dad after he passed. It was Garage kept with not even 20k miles on it and it needs the dual clutch done. I also noticed a couple drops of oil on the bottom where the tranny connects to the engine so I wondering if that could be from that rear seal. Thank you for the detailed video of what to do, if I can fin a place to work on it I am going to do it for her. Only thing I don't have is the scan tool that can do the relearn, ill have to see if I can borrow or rent one.
Just completed putting my trans back into car after finding bad fork. The car is failing the clutch touch point procedure and I continuously get the transmission fault on screen. When reading with forscan I see a p073F. Please help!
Fantastic Guide - So thorough! Give me lots of confidence in working on mine - Can I ask your advice on my 2017 Ford Focus SEL? I recently bought it used (auction), carfax shows 6k miles previously the ford dealership replaced the clutch... So it shifts smooth and drives great, but it makes a scraping noise sometimes when coming to a stop, definitely a transmission noise. It's not jerking or shuttering, but this scraping noise is sometimes loud and sometimes quiet or gone, occasionally even a kind of clunk is felt, mild though. Happens most in traffic. Mostly when slowing to a stop or near stop. Car has 125k on it, clutch job from dealership at 119k. I am thinking when they did the clutch they didn't do anything for the actuators and forks area and maybe lots of dust still in that area? Let me know what you think!
Thanks for the super thanks I really appreciate that. That’s a tough one and you’re positive it’s coming from the transmission? I know a lot of the Ford dealerships when they were doing warranty claims on theses transmissions they would just replace the seals and clutch without touching the shift forks or actuators in my opinion everything should be replaced all at once. Might want to check the bearing on the passenger side cv axle. Could also put it up on some jacks stands and have someone put it in drive and just listen underneath to try and narrow it down just be careful doing this. That’s all I can really think of right now.
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE I say transmission because when I come to a stop, the car is no longer in motion and then it goes and makes that clunk or scrape sound as the transmission fully disengages. It corresponds to the lower shifts, and the rpm changes. It's almost like something slips and then you hear the clunk. It tends to do it more once the car has been running for a while...I was underneath it today and noticed it's leaking from the rear main seal too, so that's not great. The car shifts pretty smooth though and drives well. So I was just was hoping to avoid a lot of work... Maybe just continue driving it, I thought maybe these cars could have noises like that. This is my first experience with one.
@@NickyJayO sounds like maybe the shift forks could be caked with clutch dust and possibly sticking. If I were you I’d just keep driving it like you said and wait until it starts slipping or shuddering unless that rear main seal gets really bad. Also are you sure it’s motor oil? And not the transmission fluid? I’m assuming they updated the oil seal when they replaced the clutch but then again you never know. You may want to just check the transmission fluid level from the fill hole just to be sure.

I was just driving it and with the windows down as it disengages out of first gear on slowing it sounds like two metal plates going clank, it is actually pretty loud. I didn't know they could get sticky like that. And that's a good point I will have to check that fluid level. Not sure what low levels would do, but will def get that sorted out either way.
I just did my rear main, putting it back together now. I didn't use RTV because there was rubber on the seal. Do you need RTV, or did you just add it as a precaution? Update: definitely use gasket maker! Great video by the way!
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE It was leaking oil like crazy, had to throw out the seal and buy a new one and permatex ultra black, which apparently meets the OEM TA-30 standard.

great video - appreciate how you took us right to the end. After three tries with the programmer/scanner, I finally got it to pass all tests. Transmission worked fine on the test run - for two miles. As I was coming back into the driveway, it shifted strange. I pulled up to the shop and realized I had lost reverse (again). I tried going through the learning process again but when at the "clutch" stage the test failed saying it coud not read the module. This is at 3:31:22 in your video. There are two test screens - mine failed on the second one a the "two gearbox shaft neutral" point and went no further. In summary, I have forward gears but no reverse. Ideas?? Thanks
Wow! Really great video. I’m going to use this when I replace my clutch here soon. Question…I have a 2013 focus s. And when I turn the car on (ACC) there is a grinding sound coming from the trans, the noise is concentrated where the TCM is. Have you experienced something like that? Do you have any idea what it could be? I took it to Ford and they said it was the clutch assembly…so I decided to do the work myself. I just want to be sure that the clutch is the only issue.
This transmission doesn’t have a filter. It’s a dry clutch setup so it doesn’t take normal atf fluid. It’s pretty much a manual transmission that automatically shifts for you.
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE we have a powershift 6 gear transmission on both cars here. A Mondeo MK5, and a Focus MK3.5. And they has a filter outside the transmission. It's a black plastic tube with a filter inside.
How long do you think the forks, clutch and clutch actuators will last before they need to replaced again? I heard the 2.0L Duratec engine is very reliable on these Ford Focuses however even with all the improved transmission components (TCM, Clutch, Forks, Actuators, seals, etc.) I wonder when something will break again.

So i got a question. I have seen that when others change that clutch once its done, they are able to spin and move the shaft around. Once i had all of it settle my clutch plate would move about an inch to either side is this ok l. And will it be able to move normal if i put it back on that way?
Hello, I followed the entire procedure and was able to mount the transmission. However I keep getting codes P075A Friction element B in gearbox stuck. P073F Cannot engage speed 1, P074B Impossible to engage 3. I only changed the forks because the A was broken, I kept the same Clutch Set. In the assembly procedure that was carried out following your instructions, I only had doubts with the assembly of the plate with the assembly tool. Maybe it's too tight and it doesn't release. Because now the forks move well, the 2 fork actuators also work properly. When I open the ignition there is a rattling noise in the transition as if it wanted to free the forks or the chainring. I must have done something wrong that I am still having problems. What do you advise me? Should I also change the plate? Do you think it's too tight and doesn't release? I would appreciate your comments. Greetings and thank you once again for that excellent video
I already know what happened, the double clutch, if the old one is going to be reused, it must be recalibrated with a special tool for this. So nothing, I have to disassemble everything again and start again. For all the newbies like me, if you use the same clock you have to buy the tool to recalibrate it
Believe I’m going through this exact issue right now, I hear this rattling sound when I accelerate or switch gears to Drive. And it won’t let me drive in higher gears it’ll shift down to reduced speeds so I basically have to drive like a grandma in the meantime. You think it’s a clutch issue?

I got my clutch from the same place you got it. I also watched this whole video 3 times over. I believe I was sold a bad clutch. Every 200 to 400 miles or so, my Focus will get stuck in with the inability to move forward. I'll have to turn the vehicle off for 30 seconds, and it'll be good to go. I'm thinking of returning the clutch and purchasing one from the dealer. I already got two new OEM Actuators, and TCM under warranty.
Sorry, but... did you have problems with transmission ??? i noticed you didnt remove the forks metal protector at 3:38:48. Its critical to remove them after instaled. Please let me know.

2015 Focus 122k miles, thought it was the TCM which Ford has extended the warranty to 150k but it's the B clutch, codes P2701, P287A, P07A4, dealership estimate $3500, independent transmission shop doesn't work on DCT.
i ordered a new clutch & gear, both didn’t come with flex plate triangle & the clutch didn’t come with the gear marking. do you know how to properly figure out where to align them?
No real permanent fix. The new updated seals will not leak like the original factory ones thus not getting gear oil on the clutches. The problem is all the clutch dust that develops and gets all over the shift forks causing them to stick.
do you have a part number for the seal kit? I don't need to change the seals as they are the updated ones but i need the grease and the bearing mount for the cv axel on passenger side.

I used to have a 2013 Focus and the RMS had to be replaced 3 times; continued to leak. It was offered as an add-on service when my transmission finally failed, and I regret accepting the offer. I've read of many others that have repeat RMS issues. Not sure what the problem is.
I bought a clutch with both forks and 1 of them when I twisted back 9 times it never recoiled back to starting position . 2 days wasted and now waiting for a replacement
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE, the vibration wasn't there before the clutch was replaced. So I am pretty sure that the mounts are not the problem. Also, I have replaced hundreds of mounts and I know what a bad mount feels like. This vibration is not the same as a bad mount.
@@elibiagianti8337, Those bolts were in the correct place. We let the customer take it and he is happy with it. It has been a month. If the customer is happy, then so am I.
You might as well just pull the strut assembly out and the control arms for more room because the control arm bushings are going to be shot and the death wobble at highway speeds is no fun.

If you can’t find one you can see if a dealer will do it for you just have to get the car there
Don’t really need it as the car will relearn without it but it does speed up the process.

You may want to just check the transmission fluid level from the fill hole just to be sure.

I was just driving it and with the windows down as it disengages out of first gear on slowing it sounds like two metal plates going clank, it is actually pretty loud. I didn't know they could get sticky like that. And that's a good point I will have to check that fluid level. Not sure what low levels would do, but will def get that sorted out either way.

I just did my rear main, putting it back together now. I didn't use RTV because there was rubber on the seal. Do you need RTV, or did you just add it as a precaution? Update: definitely use gasket maker! Great video by the way!

great video - appreciate how you took us right to the end. After three tries with the programmer/scanner, I finally got it to pass all tests. Transmission worked fine on the test run - for two miles. As I was coming back into the driveway, it shifted strange. I pulled up to the shop and realized I had lost reverse (again). I tried going through the learning process again but when at the "clutch" stage the test failed saying it coud not read the module. This is at 3:31:22 in your video. There are two test screens - mine failed on the second one a the "two gearbox shaft neutral" point and went no further. In summary, I have forward gears but no reverse. Ideas??

Question…I have a 2013 focus s. And when I turn the car on (ACC) there is a grinding sound coming from the trans, the noise is concentrated where the TCM is. Have you experienced something like that? Do you have any idea what it could be?
I took it to Ford and they said it was the clutch assembly…so I decided to do the work myself.
I just want to be sure that the clutch is the only issue.
I have changed out my clutch, but I can not find any markings or triangle on the clutch…. How concerning is this?

This transmission doesn’t have a filter. It’s a dry clutch setup so it doesn’t take normal atf fluid. It’s pretty much a manual transmission that automatically shifts for you.
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE we have a powershift 6 gear transmission on both cars here. A Mondeo MK5, and a Focus MK3.5. And they has a filter outside the transmission. It's a black plastic tube with a filter inside.
How long do you think the forks, clutch and clutch actuators will last before they need to replaced again? I heard the 2.0L Duratec engine is very reliable on these Ford Focuses however even with all the improved transmission components (TCM, Clutch, Forks, Actuators, seals, etc.) I wonder when something will break again.
Just kind of depends I’ve seen some go 150k with no issues but others only 75k the problem is the clutch dust.

So i got a question. I have seen that when others change that clutch once its done, they are able to spin and move the shaft around. Once i had all of it settle my clutch plate would move about an inch to either side is this ok l. And will it be able to move normal if i put it back on that way?
Hello, I followed the entire procedure and was able to mount the transmission.
However I keep getting codes
P075A Friction element B in gearbox stuck.
P073F Cannot engage speed 1,
P074B Impossible to engage 3.
I only changed the forks because the A was broken, I kept the same Clutch Set.
In the assembly procedure that was carried out following your instructions, I only had doubts with the assembly of the plate with the assembly tool.
Maybe it's too tight and it doesn't release. Because now the forks move well, the 2 fork actuators also work properly.
When I open the ignition there is a rattling noise in the transition as if it wanted to free the forks or the chainring. I must have done something wrong that I am still having problems.
What do you advise me?
Should I also change the plate?

I already know what happened, the double clutch, if the old one is going to be reused, it must be recalibrated with a special tool for this. So nothing, I have to disassemble everything again and start again. For all the newbies like me, if you use the same clock you have to buy the tool to recalibrate it
Believe I’m going through this exact issue right now, I hear this rattling sound when I accelerate or switch gears to Drive. And it won’t let me drive in higher gears it’ll shift down to reduced speeds so I basically have to drive like a grandma in the meantime. You think it’s a clutch issue?

I got my clutch from the same place you got it. I also watched this whole video 3 times over.
I believe I was sold a bad clutch. Every 200 to 400 miles or so, my Focus will get stuck in with the inability to move forward. I'll have to turn the vehicle off for 30 seconds, and it'll be good to go. I'm thinking of returning the clutch and purchasing one from the dealer.
I already got two new OEM Actuators, and TCM under warranty.
Sorry, but... did you have problems with transmission ??? i noticed you didnt remove the forks metal protector at 3:38:48. Its critical to remove them after instaled. Please let me know.

Luk clutches are ready to install just check the tabs to double check its locked

Yes I believe so. The transmission will start to shudder and slip while chaining gears.
2015 Focus 122k miles, thought it was the TCM which Ford has extended the warranty to 150k but it's the B clutch, codes P2701, P287A, P07A4, dealership estimate $3500, independent transmission shop doesn't work on DCT.
i ordered a new clutch & gear, both didn’t come with flex plate triangle & the clutch didn’t come with the gear marking. do you know how to properly figure out where to align them?

No real permanent fix. The new updated seals will not leak like the original factory ones thus not getting gear oil on the clutches. The problem is all the clutch dust that develops and gets all over the shift forks causing them to stick.
do you have a part number for the seal kit? I don't need to change the seals as they are the updated ones but i need the grease and the bearing mount for the cv axel on passenger side.
It’s in the description should be the fourth link down. It includes all the seals and the special grease.

You will have vibration. The arrow is how to balance the clutch with the flywheel.

I used to have a 2013 Focus and the RMS had to be replaced 3 times; continued to leak. It was offered as an add-on service when my transmission finally failed, and I regret accepting the offer. I've read of many others that have repeat RMS issues. Not sure what the problem is.

Have you checked to replaced the motor mounts and torque mount?
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE, the vibration wasn't there before the clutch was replaced. So I am pretty sure that the mounts are not the problem. Also, I have replaced hundreds of mounts and I know what a bad mount feels like. This vibration is not the same as a bad mount.
Check the trans. Mount under the car if the bolt aren’t in right spots you’ll get a vibration you may need to swap the bolt around

@@elibiagianti8337, Those bolts were in the correct place. We let the customer take it and he is happy with it. It has been a month. If the customer is happy, then so am I.
You might as well just pull the strut assembly out and the control arms for more room because the control arm bushings are going to be shot and the death wobble at highway speeds is no fun.
No issues so far car rides and drives great.
