My dad used to sing this song (we live in rural PA) with the titles of all the towns by us: Well I never been to Berwick, but I've been to Mocanaqua. I still have to sing it like this every time!
After driving through Las Vegas from Northern California, outside of Needles I played this song on repeat singing away while pulling a 26 foot travel trailer on my way to New Jersey through Oklahoma. First time I’ve ever been through Needles and Never Been To Spain is one of my all-time favorite songs!
I always tell people that when I die I'll be with them any time they uh play my favorite son. Lincoln highway dub by sublime. I'm sure the same applies with this song and your husband. Tell him hi when it plays
Sorry about your husband. I was born in Oklahoma of course I don't remember, I lived in Arizona, got stuck in Needles LOL so that's why I live this song
Written by Hoyt Axton. "Never Been To Spain" was Three Dog Night's twelfth of 21 consecutive Top 40 hit singles. It peaked @ #5 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart in February 1972. Bravo, Three Dog Night! R.I.P., Hoyt Axton & Joe Schermie (TDN bassist).
I am here in midst of coved 19 someone joked that they never seen Venice so empty, and never seen it full, because they had never been there, Made me think, I have never been to Spain. Love ❤️ this song.
Grew up with Three Dog Night. I love lots of music but this is one of the songs that just makes me close my eyes and sing, feel, and enjoy. Thank you guys. You live with me forever.
I absolutley love this song. I was around 10 when it came out. Every time I hear it, I hear musicianship, talent, poetry, passion, the human experience. It elevates me to a different prespective.
Awesome tune by Three Dog Night. I remember when it was on the radio back in 1971. And being a huge Beatles fan I loved the lyric Well I never been to England but I kinda like the Beatles. Ya I was sold😬
Growing up a young brother in Kansas my grandparents and parents exposed we kids to almost all genres of music, and TDN was one of my favorite bands and this song ( with it's C&W leanings) to this day brings tears and joy to me for some reason. These white boys ( and brotha) were simply....COLD!!! Those days of music are gone forever. I'm so blessed to have come up during the 60's and 70's era of musicianship...doesn't get any better, thank you for posting this beautiful song....
+Ron King I have to say, I only started listening to Three Dog Night because Buffalo's own Tom Bauerle on WBEN radio, is a huge fan of Cory Wells and the band, and Tom spoke very highly of Wells, having had the privilege of meeting Cory backstage once. Cory Wells is a native born Buffalo guy and continued to live in the Buffalo area, close to his extended family. The way they spoke of him, his fans too, when Bauerle did a "Tribute Show" to Cory on the 21st, painted Cory as a truly gifted, loving, generous and down to Earth person, who truly cared about people. Bauerle raves about Cory's unbelievable talent as a guitarist. I took some time to listen to, and watch some Three Dog Night videos, and Cory's singing is a talent that truly sets him apart. He had an amazing voice, so soulful. I think my favorite is a cover of Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness". The video is from sometime in the 1960's and Cory has short hair like one of "The Beatles". But Cory's voice! That's a God given voice.
People underestimate Oklahoma all the time, but a lot of great talent, and even greater people come out of here. Truly a great state, with a phenomenal song to recognize it. God bless all of you. Keep the good times rolling. Time is relevant! Chill out and make it slow down for you!
I just had this song in my head this morning and I just needed a happy childhood flashback and Three Dog Night is a mighty fine flashback. Thanks for the video, thanks for the song, and thank you for the memories
Elvis Presley also recorded this song during his live concerts in 1972, including the movie "Elvis On Tour" and both live albums recorded at Madison Square Garden (the evening show was released on vinyl and tape in 1972, then the afternoon show on CD in 1997).
First heard this song when I was 11 or 12. Was with my Uncle Glenn Thomas in his house in Corse Avenue in Collinsville Va. Three Dog Night was just about his favorite band and he would blast it! He had a beautiful floor model stereo that he had hand made with top quality components with a big ass reel to reel and turntable. This came to be my favorite song and I cannot listen to it without crying. I've been listening to it all night and missing him so fucking bad. He was a Vietnam veteran, his second brain tumor took him away from his 8 year old daughter and me, I was 16 in 1976 when he died. It's been 43 years and I still miss him every day at some point in my day. No other death has affected me so. I just ordered a great CD from Amazon by this band with this song and I know I'll hit this song over and over again. His daughter still has that stereo, it traveled over 2000 miles with her, she replaced the turntable, and she plays her vinyls today. He would be so proud of her and her 2 beautiful kids and her man. God, I miss my Uncle Glenn, he was an absolute Angel on this earth. I dont know if he ever went to Oklahoma, but I sure know he made it to Heaven. I hope they have good classic 70's rock there...
I was a senior in high school when this song came out. For some reason it has resurfaced in my consciousness after all these years. I've never been to Heaven, but I've been to Oklahoma. Well I am from Oklahoma and ready to go to Heaven. I guess that's why. I love this song!!!
To those who don't know. They choose the name three dog night. Because of on night they had no money for a room. N had to sleep in the van. N it was so cold that night. Young voices so versatile and with age and use, they change. So much sad to hear someone who used to sing like this who has to switch Octaves or Rearrange apart to fit his vocal abilities due to age andhard usage throughout the years. RIP. 3-11 15 "Jimmy Greenspoon " I also grew up with Three Dog Night seems like the radio were always playing every hr.back in the 70's ! Todays artist is ripping off tracks of every one, Classic tunes are the best! Rock N. Roll ♪♪lives on
Three Dog Night was the premier rock group in America in the early 70's. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame critics who refuse to put them in the HOF should be lined up and shot at sunrise.
Ever so often there is a song that has to search out it's singer and band before it's is synchronized in pitch perfect harmony . This is one such song. Hoyt Axton wrote it, many tried to sing it including Elvis but none mastered it like Cory Wells and Three Dog Night !
Terry Harrison Rock is built on the Blues which was created by black Americans. Most every genre of music was. White America rejected the blues until white English rockers presented the music to them.
Up until today, I have interpreted the lyrics of this song that went "Well I've never been to Heaven but I've been to Oklahoma." as positive about Oklahoma but now I think the real interpretation is just presenting an opposite, like... Well, I've never been to Heaven but sure have been to Hell. That kinda of thing. Still love the song and group. Thank you for posting.
Very touching- I read the notes attached often! I've always loved this group and this song- the melody just seems to linger and as a hippie, of course I wanted to travel- still do but the possibilities are getting lesser each year. But, thankfully we have You Tube so we can watch travel videos- put 2 tablets on, on one I'll play your lyric video (thanks, never could make out a line) and on the other tablet I'll watch somebody happily exploring Spain etc. Namaste from Canada. Z.
Quite the Classic, by one of the Masters... On the other hand, "I also, have never been to heaven." Yet, I have been ___to Oklahoma! 'Hahahaaa.... "God I love that song!" It takes me right back to the 6th grade, in 1970 ('good~times') ('good~times')
OHHHHH MY GOD HOW INCREDIBLE WHERE THESE GUYS!!...If this song doesn't hit you right in your soul ESPECIALLY AT THE 2:43 mark of the song then.. Ya better check Yer Pulse Cause You Might Be Dead!!!!... Where and how we lost this kinda talent in our culture today is just a DAM Shame!!!
+Steve P Music became Music INDUSTRY and I truly blame Henry Ford and introducing mankind into the raping of our free world for obscene profit at lightspeed rates... I give you.. the assembly line.. and so "mass production" was born.. in agriculture, in culture at large, in music... and the profiteers never stopped to think about what would be lost... because... they do NOT have a soul... for those like you and I... it's a worn leather jacket we wear for the rest of our lives... but the source of where we got it is no more... that is why we say.. Roc on.. and if it is too loud.. you are too old... Much was lost just in going digital... but now? We don't create music or write it.. we manufacture it.Not to worry.. the silver tsunami is upon us and when they all croke... it will get much better.Boomers..... pfftt.. they contributed some of this good but ultimately left us [their kids] high and dry... with the bill...
+Steve P Our society is concentrated on the technology of the medium to bring art. Inevitable - due to such large changes. Sad for now. But I'm an optimist - we will again have the need to fill the void of our sole in our art, and then fill that void with quality - not flash and quantity. Plenty of beauty in the world, but the filter has changed. Sad, yes... but artist have dealt with worse - just not from such a moral stand point. Such as rap music... pure stealing, and represents the bottom denominator of art. Rap is not the issue, but the rap industry not creating, but stealing. There have always been phonies and snake oil salesmen in the world - just a different scam, supported today - unfortunately by Political Correctness. That is truly sad - as the meek destroy themselves. People who have very little are impressed by getting very little - both financially and morally. Hence our state.

@@juniorsatterfield405 say what?
great song
I love this song.
My boyfriend just sent me this because I don’t know what I still want to do
I wish I was old enough to have been growing up when this type of music was coming out. Oh well, the 90's were good enough I guess.
No they weren't.
This is 1 of the coolest kick ass songs ever!
I used to proofread warranty, checking errors, for Toyota, before finishing them..I worked there 25 years, so I habitually check..
Couple lyric mistakes, but thanks for posting one of the best songs of all time!
My girlfriend got to hang out with Hoyt Axton the guy that wrote this song and Joy to The World and The Pusher which ended up in Easy Rider and i jad explained to me he wrote song in a bar after a friend had od'd.. gave it to the unknown band that was playn n the bar.. Steppenwolf. Hoyt lived his last few years in The Bitteroot Valley in Montana.. my girlfriend was good friends with him and his wife. Amazing man
Got a correction, apparently i got it all wrong. She didnt hang out with Hoyt Axton after all. It was his wife that she was friend with. My humblest apology to all concerned
THAT IS A GREAT SONG".!." I GOT TO SEE SPAIN in 1990. It is like a fresh breath of Air with Gorgeous scenery. Hope all is well in California{ ".." }
RIP. 3-11 15 "Jimmy Greenspoon " I also grew up with Three Dog Night
seems like the radio were always playing every hr.back in the 70's ! Todays artist is ripping off tracks of every one, Classic tunes are the best!
Rock N. Roll ♪♪lives on
If I remember correctly, no one sold more concert tickets than TDN from 1970 to 1975.
YOU MAY BE RIGHT BUT I BELIEVE ELTON JOHN WAS COMING ON PRETTY BIG THEN AS WERE THE EAGLES AND PERHAPS LYNARD SKYNARD.
70s music the freakin best! Nothing today can come close.
Three Dog Night was the premier rock group in America in the early 70's. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame critics who refuse to put them in the HOF should be lined up and shot at sunrise.
@@rwbpiano RRHOF is a total farce... to start off with in "Cleveland " and not Detroit??? Seriously??
Except Elvis.
This song is sooo cool !
Great song!
1972 NEVER BEEN TO SPAIN.....THREE DOG NIGHT.....GOOD SONG
good music to get stoned by in the 70's done it many times. saw them once in mobile al. they were great!!!!
Good afternoon to all.......enjoy the New Years
I recently awoke witth that song stuck in my head for over a month .. Weird !
But so cool , too.
Plan on going , now B4 I die..
Atlas...
Ever so often there is a song that has to search out it's singer and band before it's is synchronized in pitch perfect harmony . This is one such song. Hoyt Axton wrote it, many tried to sing it including Elvis but none mastered it like Cory Wells and Three Dog Night !
This song has been on every jukebox in Alabama, every beer joint, bar, juke joint you name it, it was a law, had to be there
I am black but I love this kinda music.
Great music has NO boundaries!!!
Terry Harrison Rock is built on the Blues which was created by black Americans. Most every genre of music was. White America rejected the blues until white English rockers presented the music to them.
i'm white and i love ALL genres of music. No color lines in music!!! i love this as well as Jimi or Sly.
Terry Harrison what the hell difference does it fucking make what color you are? What an idiotic comment. I see humans you see race and color.
@Troy Simoneau 👎
most of my friends were in to head banging, me i was into this and ccr joe cocker all the good ones thanks you tube
On the other hand,
"I also, have never been to heaven."
Yet, I have been
___to Oklahoma!
'Hahahaaa....
"God I love
that song!"
It takes me right back to the 6th grade, in 1970 ('good~times')
('good~times')
lol...when we were without tunes we would all sing this! lol...so much fun ;)
Love this song. And Rob Morrow!! LOL
The Waylon Jennings version is a lot better in my opinion
Awesome, not heard that in many moons...
Fine Fine Music.
Happy Birthday Floyd Sneed born on November 22, 1942. He is a Canadian drummer, best known for his work with the band Three Dog Night. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Sneed
Only made it out to Riadosa is the place he sang . that's in New Mexico where Hort Axton lived. He wrote this song
I've been to Oklahoma, I've been to Kathmandu, and I'm really glad. I've been to Xanadu, I've been to Shangri-la, I've been to Machu Pichu, I've been to Chitzen itza, I've been to Dognsuds.
That's why I'm going to Kathmandu, if I ever get out of here, that's what I'm gonna do. Kat can do the man some good, I got that cat scratch fever, got it from some kitty next door, I think I got it some more. That's Kate, she's a spirit. She's like Briannan? that fleetwood Mac song, or that Billy Squier song, in the dark, my kinda lover, or that one song, play me from neil diamond. She was morning and I was night time, lying beside my bed, come take me, you are the son, I am the moon, you are the words I am the tune, play me.
Evergreen from Barbara, that's Ischa Ina,
Ischa Ina, a blonde haired angel, her color is white. Then there is Isa Ina, light green, Kavina, Kalina, Talina, there are 18 of them. LLXIIX77
