My first born son died during the covid pandemic. This was his favorite song/band. I know he has now "found what's he's been looking for'" . Thank you Jesus ❤
Karen ..I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my 39 yr old son 13 years ago. I just found an old CD he had made of some of his favorite songs. This is one of them. He was a born again Christian, so I know I'll see him again. My husband died 2 days after my son...deaths not connected. I just recently found out the hospital chaplain had led him to the Lord shortly before he died! I was wondering about his situation with Jesus ... Now I feel I will see him again too . God is so good. ❤
I like to believe that the lyrics go beyond finding that perfect someone to fulfill a vacancy into which we are all born. You can't expect love to fill in all the gaps. The song suggests a spiritual quest, a thirst for meaning.
No a thirst for what is and isn’t love is but a fraction of who we are and a want but the reality we perceive is what we need to differentiate from this plane and the next
I think it suggest reading into it what you want. I think if someone wants to read it as "Finding that perfect someone" that's their choice. NOT yours.
I'm glad little movies like Sing & Sing 2 are coming out to help expose the younger generations to some great music that they may not have otherwise heard. ❤️

This is a gospel song. Sometimes, what we are looking for transcends the physical and in a marriage, couple still tend to look for happiness elsewhere when they have already been blessed. So let this song be a go to song in case they sway. Look for love, understanding and forgiveness in each other.

Two memories come to mind. One, in the spanish Cies Islands, in the camping bar, listening to this tune when it came out in 87. Two, working as a night shift barman in a London hotel in 97, watching a customer coming in and thinking "¿why seems this guy so familiar?" As it turned out, HE WAS THE EDGE, with his classic hat, and right behind him came BONO & LARRY MULLEN. They spent the whole night at the bar & acted absolutely kind & humble.
When they were making my dad comfortable for his passing in the hospital they put on music and this was the first song to come on. He liked this band. Listening to this even 17months later is hard. Brings back those memories of that day watching him fade away from us. I miss and love you dad.
It’s not WHAT you’re looking for, it’s WHO you’re looking for and HIS Name is JESUS! He died for your sins too if only you’ll believe it! John 3:16, John 3:3
This song resembles life and our journey as individuals. Music is a personal experience and we can relate one way or another to the lyrics and interpret it in many ways - love, relationships, a relationship with ourselves , "our creator", the universe, faith, etc. I believe this is the meaning of life, to constantly find what we are looking for and all ends into faith in life itself.
This song still resonates in my soul bcs here I am 66yrs old and still haven't found what I'm looking for - thought I had it - then taken away - I'm still searching for what I'm looking for..
I first heard this song in the 1994 movie "Blown Away" with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones, the arsonist/Irish Extremist bought a U2 tape while buying parts and supplies for his mission and then listened to it for the rest of the movie and it was his soundtrack. Don't know why it impacted me the way it did, but it did.
This song is actually about how he failed to find what he was looking for in the pleasures of life, and what it is, is a love song to God to Jesus Christ, he’s the only place where he can actually find what he’s looking for. It’s actually a love song to Jesus not a woman.
Sam Barcia Roja ------------------------------------> have a think about this : if life was offered to you as an option, much like a brochure, and you could see what the experience would be like, the love, the failures, the heartache.... would you agree and sign up for the trip ??? pain, joy and being a human is worth the experience is my option... but i do agree, it is all fucked up.. which is the way of our learning. Cannot go forward without learning from the past.
Slowly dawned on me that this is a form of gospel and so very relatable. Yes part of it dips into being a romantic love song about a woman, but for the most part it strikes me as someone searching their life and exploring their faith and not finding that spiritual awakening.
Were i used to listen to this song so much at my old school and when i listen to it it brings me grate memories of my old school and how much i miss it and how it was the best school and miss my school so much and sometimes when i hear i get a little tear because how muchi miss my old school i wish i could go back but i cant i still think about my old school everyday and how it was the best school

She probably just hates you
Hopefully you'll get over it. I was married for 29 years and my ex divorced me because of our son.
Going through a tough split and this literally made me cry. :(
Do you think Humpty Dumpty cried when he had a tough split?
This song is actually about how he failed to find what he was looking for in the pleasures of life, and what it is, is a love song to God to Jesus Christ, he’s the only place where he can actually find what he’s looking for.
It’s actually a love song to Jesus not a woman.
Amen

------------------------------------> have a think about this : if life was offered to you as an option, much like a brochure, and you could see what the experience would be like, the love, the failures, the heartache.... would you agree and sign up for the trip ???
pain, joy and being a human is worth the experience is my option... but i do agree, it is all fucked up.. which is the way of our learning. Cannot go forward without learning from the past.
Yupp
Amen
Amen friend
Slowly dawned on me that this is a form of gospel and so very relatable. Yes part of it dips into being a romantic love song about a woman, but for the most part it strikes me as someone searching their life and exploring their faith and not finding that spiritual awakening.
I hope you find her soon so you will be loved forever...thank you for your song❤️
I love this song until death. What a great spiritual song

And I found it!
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of the Christian song "Open the eyes of my heart".
Can't believe I'm now 27 and never found anybody. Tried and tried but of no avail. Good luck to you single people!
Keep the faith. I completely understand. 🙏🏾💜🙏🏾💜

It is not downhill from wherever you are. It might feel so and it may truly appear to be so, but sometimes we our hearts need to crack open in order to brim over with light. How are you now my friend?
Nice song of U2, I love it but most of all, with or without you 🎶🎼🎵
There are so many older songs that I remember hearing as a child but I could never remember them enough to look them up and listen to them! Thank you to Sing and Sing2 that have helped me reminisce the feelings that this music has given me, then and now!

my fav U2 song.remember when on a French TV channel broadcast a short black and white film in which appears an Irish child from a poor neighborhood who sings it...
This is such a beautiful and impacting song. I heard it one night on Sirius XM, and instantly fell in love with it. It's a great song, both composition-wise and it's timeless.
