La télévision italienne n'avait pas diffusé le Tour de France, donc l'équipe nationale n'avait pas compris à quel point il était risqué de confier à Saronni la responsabilité du sprint contre Maertens.

Surtout que Maertens avait un solide passé au sprint 😉

1981 Hinualt 2nd Saronni 3rd
1982 Saronni 1st Lemond 2nd
1983 Lemond 1st.

Je me souviens très bien de cette course : Baronchelli ouvre le sprint pour Saroni de trop loin.
Maertens était encore le meilleur au sprint.
A noter, Hinault 3eme.
