- This video was filmed March 4th 2021. Mac (6) & Tosh (4) are female greyhounds I adopted from Greyhounds as Pets in Jacksonville, FL.
Please keep in mind this is my experience, and might not be the same for you. I worked closely with my greyhound adoption group to make sure this was a good fit.

Having multiple dogs is so much better. Just the fact they can entertain each other and act like dogs is my number one reason. I have 4 rescue mutts and it's funny watching their different personalities.

A lot of people have two greyhounds... My only one is dying right now. So it would be nice to have one, but... I don't think I would have had the relation I had with him for 8 years. We literally fell in love. He belonged to a friend and when she saw that he wanted to be with me, she gave him to me. I am in terrible pain and all I can do is write messages on greyhound sites. I am watching him making sure he is not suffering delaying the phone call to the vet. I love this dog so much.
Greyhound people share your pain. I hope you will adopt another one they need good loving homes.
We had one that we loved,, they make the best pets being so calm, docile, loveable, take up little room despite size and they sleep alot ..... next time definitely two!!
We have a greyhound boy and a husky girl. The confidence thing from other dogs is real-- our grey boy is very timid and always looks to his husky sister for reassurance. He's not even afraid of fireworks, because she doesn't care!

I am a fosterparent for greyhounds and it is soooo true.1 is fun but 2 is so much more fun.They always interact inmediatly when there is a grey in the group.thy see them selves in the other dog.they understand better what kind of dog there friend is.they reconise there same needs.it is such a treat to see greys together.i recomand it always when people adopt a grey.i have in 2 galgo's myself and when i foster a nother galgo it is always oke.love love love.it is terrible what happens to them in spain and the uk because there a so soft and good spirited and have big harts and love to give.it is so horrible the people who mistread them do not see that.i hope one day....life will be better for them in countrys who treat them as products for making money.my heart goes out for those who can not be saved.this goes by the way for all dogs.i wish i could do more...

I don't have greyhounds now, but I have 2 whippets which have similar loving personalities. You are 100 percent on the mark! I couldn't be happier with my girls and they get along great on our little farm. 😊

I have always rescued a pair. They absolutely love the companionship. Greys are the best dogs. We couldn't love each one of them more.

We love our greyhounds more than any other dog breed we've ever had.
We’ve adopted retired racers for 20 years now but are unable to find more to adopt easily. We’re on waiting lists with 3 groups since our local track & group closed. They are such sweet, gentle dogs. Ours rarely roo but donut when they hear a fire truck go by. Ours live on our beds but never have shown interest in our sofa. Our current hound Atticus hates going for walks due to having issues with corns. We had boots made for him but he’s still not a big fan of it. Be careful about letting your pups eat grass. The hookworm larvae can get in the soil from their poop and later reinfect them when they eat grass with the dormant larvae in it. I learned about sleep starter the hard way with our first hound. Ava was sleeping with her eyes open and I jeans dived to kiss her head and startled her. She didn’t mean to but her hard head broke my nose! She ended up maturing into a wonderful pet therapy dog. It’s greyt to see others hounds in happy homes!
We call it opera practice when our boys sing. And I can fully support the notion on 2 hounds are better than one, it totally changes their interaction with everything plus they can be naughty together and not feel bad about it afterwards which is kinda funny.

My favorite dogs are Labs and Greyhounds. We have two Labs and just rescued a Lab/Greyhound mix. Just awesome.

Play some greyhounds howling on CZcams lol, but I feel it’s cruel although listening to it is awesome. I’ve looked after 3 greyhounds so far and they are the best dogs looking at adopting some more as have the space atm , My favorite one was Ej we got him straight from the guy who was racing him, didn’t like his space being invaded and was covered in fleas when we got him but damn he was great. My rottiex German Shepard never got on with any dog but it was the first time she actually played and enjoyed another dogs company, their temperament is great
My boy Greyhound sings a lot lol. My girl only a little bit.
If you got a dog with bad separation anxiety and likes to tear things up getting a second dog that gels with the first dog really helps with that separation anxiety. Plus two dogs is better than one for sure. I have always been an admirer of greyhounds, beautiful dogs

They eat better when they are other dogs. Otherwise they are picky eaters.

I have always rehomed greyhounds and lurchers and until about two-three years ago when my beloved Auryn ( also a fawn - your fawn grey reminds me a little of him) passed ( of old age) and now I only have one. My current one quite likes being the only dog I think but whenever I see a greyhound up in rescue, think should I get another again? The only thing that stops me is travel - as most 'dog friendly' staycations here specify one dog' and it seems slightly easier traveling in the car with only one - when trying to holiday with your dogs it is easier to try and go toilet breaks on the road with one dog when there's only you... but still looking at rescues...

A bit of healthy competition is a good thing in this case!!! Mac will be encouraged to step up in order to make a point I am still top dog. We have two Great Danes, walking them together I nearly always see top dog pushing it a little just to keep ahead of her sister. They will both be nine February and March. I agree, two dogs are better than one!!!

Yep having a friend is essential for any dog, imo anyway. Oh but make sure they will tolerate each other, nothing worse than living your life around dogs that won't mix.
Two are so much better than one. My second hound wound up being the leader. The first hound is much more confident, less neurotic about what I'm doing around him, and has picked up a lot of healthy dog behaviors that he lacked. She taught him how to play, what squeaky toys are, and how to play fetch. They've never roo'ed - I have to play some audio for them and see if they pick it up!
My hound does his zoomies in my bedroom too... except he does it when I'm not looking, gets on the bed, and whips the sheets up in a frenzy.

I'm a strong believer in two dogs, cats, or what have you. The description you give for each point applies to my Brittany Spaniels also. Sometimes your absence from home is unavoidable, and the dogs will keep each other company.
A lot of hounds do the howling thing. Our Ridgebacks do the same thing a lot, usually one gets the other started through a whine about something, like she wants THAT bed.

I have been really wanting a new friend for our grey Bundy, but I have a two storey townhouse (with gappy stairs so our boy refuses) with yard space but not the biggest. Do you think the lack of space would be an issue?
I have two greys, Kells Wild Bill, and KBs Mr Randall. I got Bill first, and after 6 months Mr Randall (aka Ted) joined the party. Every point you make is 100% on point. Its too bad adoptions will be a thing of the past for greyhounds in 3 years.
What fun names! Yes, I adopted Tosh when I did cause it was either now or never as greyhound racing ended in FL a month after I adopted her. Retired greyhounds made such good pets. I don't know what I'll do when Mac and Tosh are no longer with me.
Why will adoptions stop? Don't some states still have racing? They're such sweet dogs.

I've had many pairs (9 pairs) of Great Danes which the Greyhound makes up some of the breading! These dogs do better with a buddy and YOUR RIGHT 2 or more makes it easier and the genuine REGULAR pet owners don't understand. The DOGS become part of a since of humanity, FAMILY, Happiness, Unjudgementally Love, Silliness, Comfort, Protection... I could go on and on,,,, !

Have had greys for 27 years, always a male and female they have all been inseparable.The saddest thing is when one passes the remaining dog never really recovers even when another is brought into the family
Sounds like Tosh is kinda like our girl Mousse, she's stand-offish too. She doesn't let us pet her while laying down and we have to tell people not to pet her. She will scream (yes, scream) and snap. Just an FYI for interested adopters that some greys are simply not cuddly or tolerant of touching.

My greyhound has separation anxiety and always becomes cheeky when my father leaves the house (to go to work) to get attention! He also cries at night or when the whole family leaves the house so me and my mother have been contemplating getting another doggie, what breed do you recommend? Maybe another grey? He is high energy most of the time and loves to play and do zoomies though he definitely will sleep 1 or twice thru out the day. Thanks!

Oh boy, if my future greyhound starts to roar like that in my apartment, we are homeless.
Yeah, Mac would not make a good apartment dog. But I know other greyhounds that would be great in an apartment!
I live in an apartment and my greyhound barely makes any noises other than playing with his squeaky toy. I’ve been trying to teach him to Roo lol

I really want one bc an Italian greyhound is too small and could probably get hurt easier than a real greyhound. I’m just concerned if they are good with small children bc it seems like they could trample or charge them.
You have to be mindful around kids cause the kid can't pull or ride on a greyhound. As long as the kid respects the dog, it's all good. I have three niblings and they are great around my dogs. They are 12, 9, and 7. And my friend's greyhound Max lives with a kid and they are great friends.

Apparently greyhounds are always better as a pack, because they are a primitive breed, unlike all the labradoodle things of different breeds.
Obviously 2 are better. What I want to know is... are 64 greyhounds better than 32? 😉
The thing about rating better... Absolutely not true for every pair or combination of greys. Mine would not eat if another even smell her food... Careful with very generalizing advice, it may misguide people and they are not fun toys to be returned if if doesn'twork.
You might want to re-record this vid... you told me 10 reasons to get a greyhound and two reasons not to that I didn't know about before watching it.
