In John Lennon Airport (Liverpool UK) I was SO excited to see Elton John, Bernie Taupin & the whole band. Ofcourse it was just by luck - in 1972 - I was 12yrs old with my 17yr old brother. Ofcourse they were all walking along at the airport - very small airport at the time. My brother asked Elton for an autograph but later on lost it!!! I shall never forget that day. Elton was SO polite too. I happened to be there at the time as my sister-in-law was going back to France - she's French. What an amazing time we had that day!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I can’t say enough about George’s voice obviously. Elton John wrote the song in 1974 and released it as a solo. It was very popular back then. In 1991 they decided to record the song together. It went to the top of the charts. It was nominated for an Academy award/Grammy. This was the last show of Michael’s Tour called cover to cover. In London at Wembley stadium he brought Elton John out and surprised the entire audience. They also perform this together at live aid! So loud and so perfect. This was a huge song. George Michael solidified his place in rock history. Anyone who still didn't take him seriously as an artist, definitely took notice, especially because he was singing such a classic song. Elton John was clean/sober and making a huge comeback (Disney songs over the next decade). As much as I love Elton's original version, this one gives me chills. I'm someone who loves originals. Regardless of whether it's movies or music. I'd list some examples, but then people will say mean things and hate me. So, I'll just stick to Elton John's Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. It was one of my favorites, until I heard this version. It's absolutely, stunningly brilliant!! I listened to the first half of the song with my mouth half open!! It's by far, the best collaboration I've ever heard, of any song. This reminds me of those commercials decades ago advertising cassette tapes for recording music. Their claim was you couldn't tell whether it was a live or recorded performance. The ad line was, "Is it live or is it Memorex?" LOL

But this version of the song is unmatched.
Co-wrote it, he "only" writes the music to his songs and Bernie Taupin usually writes the lyrics first.

Glad they mad up after 6 yrs, After Live Aid. Elton was miffed George wouldn't let him sing his parts and treated Elton as a session player on his own song. George invited him to come to major cities. They remained friends till George's death.
