  • Cleaning out a 100-year-old farmhouse root cellar! While it is sad to throw away all of that food that represents so much hard work, I think there’s a lot of hope in this story too- and I’m excited to share it with you.

Home grown food is one of the reasons he has lived well into his 90's

I want to cry seeing this...sad that he is having to leave his home...happy that he has such dear friends to help him.

I’m picturing a bunch of half drunk squirrels stumbling around the woods! Hahaha. Beautiful jars! It’d be so neat to get an interview with him about the ways food preservation has changed, and the ways our diets have changed too.

Some of the old jars are very pretty, hope you managed to save some for reuse later.

omg! What value the glasses alone have! Here in germany ball mason jars are so expensive! A large glass costs at least 10€ or more. I would be in glass heaven if I had the chance to take over a cellar like this. I'm jealous to death 😂

That was incredible. I shared it with my nephew. I hope you snagged some old jars, lol.

I grew up on the farm and learned all the ways of my great grandparents. Been married 30 years and still grow our own food and my wife cans most of it though I help too. You’d be amazed at what most people don’t know about food because they use refrigerators and buy over processed junk from the stores. Your body is the product of what you consume and it’s why things like diabetes type 2 are out if control today. That old man knew too.

    Lots of hard work!

Wow. Can't imagine the work this was. Feel bad for this man. Was any of it salvaged?

What a cool thing to do & how fun …it’s almost like a piece if history!
Did you find any ‘sealed’ (as in still well closed jars) with mold or bad smells?
