- On this episode of the Reckless Wrench Garage, we convert the Ranger to King coilover shocks. The Ranger has already been solid axle swapped and was sitting on early Bronco coil springs. For a better and more controlled/tune-able ride, we are swapping in 14'' 2.0 King coilovers.

You guys are awesome! thanks for sharing all the info and videos with us all!
Thank you so much for putting this video together. I am installing Duff arms, a giant motor sports cage, and King on my d44 swapped 94 Ext cab this weekend.
You’re content has been amazingly helpful.
Glad it has helped you out, we love seeing other projects, send us some pictures on Facebook or Instagram
Beautiful piece of machinery fellas!
You popped up in my recommendations, I have been watching a few Bronco II videos lately. Nice video, very cool the way you demonstrated the driveway solution for an average dude. Loved your dogs too!
Thanks for watching I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Ranger is looking sick
Looks good!!
Great job guys
Those shocks looked like that worked amazing over the curbs. Can't wait to switch to coils.
Yeah it soaks up bumps nicely. We are doing a shock tuning video soon, but there is a preview of jumping the ranger on the tube front episode for the ranger
Your video cheers my day..that dog so adoreable!!😘
I like the face shield when your grinding
This makes me miss my ranger.
3:03 A very patient dog with a frisbee.
Never been to this channel, gotta say those dogs made me smile. Still missing my cattle dog, had her 14 years and she always had that same pink fabric frisbee hanging out of her mouth, RIP Caliente sweet girl.
THROW THE DAMN FRISBEE!!
Nice job. Surprised they didn’t come with a crossover tube. Probably a good idea to add a cross over tube between both shock hoops. Also gusset the tabs. They will rip off the tube.
manddy05554 we are coming up with either a crossover tube, or tie the hoops into the tube front. I will add some gussets into the tabs, thanks!
I like your dog.....so cute
2 huge thumbs up for the heeler content ..... :) i love cattle dogs
Sick
My first time with you boys. Don't feel weird about it. It was gonna happen sooner or later. I just hope you guys have been being safe before I let you get all balls deep up in my TubeTa4d algorithms. I've never been one for givva shits or perrrtection neither. You guys are rad. Drink good beer, make more vidz. Cheers. Go!
4:43 putting metal shavings to dogs food. lol
Saludos desde Chile.
Love the Shaka 🤙🏽 you threw up
that dog wanna play so bad
Need to know how you decided on size of Kings for the front. Have a 1976 Bronco but no scales....Thanks much.
How do you like that front James duff suspension? Do you get enough articulation out of it?
Классная работа 👍
Тоже мечтаю свой Ford Transit сделать полноприводным🤔
Ya'll make this look easy.. I can't weld to save my life.. relying on others sucks lol nice job
GREG LEBLOND Thanks. Practice will get you there. It’s taken a while to get to this point, and we still have much to learn.
RecklessWrenchGarage and having something more then a flux welder helps to lol
GREG LEBLOND if it makes you feel any better, Chris isn’t the greatest welder lol
RecklessWrenchGarage looks like you guys do pretty good, at least by my standards
nice work guys. but why you didn't put the 2.5 coilovers
This is the first vid I seen from you guys and I’m needing help bad I have a 92 ranger 2wd and I’m wanting to put solid full length axels Dana 60 80 or even 44 I want my truck to be road worthy but have a blast on the street some one told me to check out high steer conversions
It depends how extreme of off-roading you want to do. I would recommend doing a Dana 60 if you’re going over 35” tires.
RecklessWrenchGarage mild off road hauling Rancher truck work horse not goin balls to the wall
What transfer case are you running in the ranger. I can’t seem to find anything that will fit in the frame rails. I’m running a 94 extended cab ranger with 99 5.0 and 92 m5od-r2 but not trying to modify frame. I like what you guys do and it’s giving me some ideas for my build.
I have been running an Atlas 2 since 2017 in it. Before I was running a flipped Dana 300 with doubler and before that I was running a 1350 ranger case and doubler. None of these have required frame rail modifications, just cross member mods
Could you tell me where you put the brackets for the radius arms at I’m having some issues with mine they are duff long arms.
You guys have a lot more subs in your future I can feel it. Great videos! I enjoy watching and that's thanks to the hard work you guys put into your projects and making these videos. Keep it up! You guys Army or Air Force?
Thank you! We are Air Force
Right on I was AF for 8 years as an aircraft fuel systems tech. Recognized that beanie in one video. What do you guys do? Some metals tech or sheet metal guys or would that just be too fitting? Thanks for your service.
Both of us are mx as well. One of us is a Crew Chief, the other is Hydro. Now, we’ll leave it to you to figure out which is which. 😁
Hmm little Chris is the crew cheif? Man I would have thought you guys were fab for sure.
‘little Chris’ 😂😂😂
Chris is the Crew Chief, Kris is Hydro.
I actually wanted to cross train to metals tech after my first enlistment, but never did.
~Kris
So I have a 98 Ford explorer and I would love to put a solid front axle in it what or how did you know to install one on yours how did you know where it need to be in order for it to be lined up
If you dont tie those hoops together with a bar over the engine....or each hoop to the upper/outer fender bar, they WILL bend inward and pin against the engine after a few good hits
You are correct! Check out our video we did right after filming this. I built a tube front on the truck and tied everything together 👍🏻
@@RecklessWrenchGarage oh..............never mind, carry on
Are the bottom shock mounts welded to cast!?! LOL I keep hearing you can't do that...usually in comments from people who do it. haha
JayinMI the inner c is forged, it is not cast. The wedges and housing center section is cast
What is the benefit of having them on an angle? Will that help with handeling an rude on the road as well?
When you mount a shock on an angle, you can get more travel at the axle. If the shock was perfectly up and down and perpendicular to the axle, the axle would move 1 inch for every inch of shock travel. With the angle, the axle will move 1 inch, but the shock travel will be less. This way I can get 16 inches of travel out of a 14 inch shock
What size coilovers are those ?
MTRs 👍👍👍👍👍
Let me get something straight...that's a full width D44 from a 76-77 right? That puts it at 65" wide? Did you customize those radius arms to fit the factory wedges or does James Duff make them?
No customization, the arms bolt just like factory
@@RecklessWrenchGarage That's good to know, thanks for the reply. I haven't seen those arms yet on their website but I'll be looking for them. I'm going to be using a full width D44 eventually, I just picked up a housing finally, I just have to spend some money building it now.
Am wondering that with front 4 link , the ride quality or comfortness is better than leaf spring?
Yes, it is much better in our opinion.
Im from brazil.
Could you do a video that covers the SAS on the ranger? Thanks
What information are you looking for?
I know you cant re do a installation but just cover how you guys did your set up , I have a 94 explorer and want to do the swap any help would be appreciated
That might be something for us to do in the future. Our second video that we did was on the ranger, check it out, it might answer some of your questions
Yes I've looked it over If you could when you do do it just a more detailed explanation of how you set it up . Thanks
How do you like your James Duff extended radius arms by now?
They are awesome man. I would easily buy them again. Very strong and great design
RecklessWrenchGarage I need to correct for caster in the Bronco. Been eyeballing these pretty hard.
What welder are you using to do this?
The welder used in this video was a Hobart Handler 140
What's your spring rates and spring size on your coilovers
These are 2.0 200/200
What is the spring rate in lbs? Top and down
200.over 200
What size coil over did u use thanks
It's a 14" 2.0. If I bought coilovers again I would go with a 2.5, it's just harder to cram in there
RecklessWrenchGarage getting ready to 4 link my 71 bronco trying to get a idea on coils and straps and speed bumps. Thanks for replying
1:26 никогда так не делай, у меня так палец травмироало.
What is the brand of those high jacks?
vpelayo89 The frame stands are made by Ridgid Tools.
RecklessWrenchGarage Thank you! Awesome build!
How much you want for those coil springs and the coil retainer
Those were sold a while back.
Well snap. That sucks lol ig I’ll buy em new. Where did you get the oil filter relocater
It's from Summit racing. I recommend getting the relocator that exits the block at 90 degrees for the most clearence.
