- I've talked about the Dead Rising series so much on this channel and I thought it was finally time to talk about the underappreciated third installment. Dead Rising 3 tends to slip the minds of fans, probably because it's not as great as the first 2 but isn't as infamous as the terrible 4th game. Despite it being somewhere in the middle, Dead Rising 3 has a lot of great elements that fans tend to overlook.

Dr3 is alot of fun and Nick Ramos is a underrated character. Love some of the new combo weapons like circuit saw and Sledgehammer.

I heavily disagree the game is more "realistic"
Just because it has a grittier look doesn't mean it's realistic, if anything for all the quirky and sillier moments 1 is still the game that seems the most "real" and grounded compared to any of the sequels.
Played a bit of DR1 at some point. Could never get into it. It just felt me. Eventually got to coop DR3 with a friend. It really was a blast. Never played 2 and 4 but I am guessing DR3 was the only good one since my friend refused to play DR4.
I played all of the dead rising games and I agree that Dead Rising 1 felt more "real" from the animation and physics

1 is my favourite game ever but i find 3 to be much more immersive personally.
The biggest reason this game failed had nothing to do with its gameplay or how it strayed from the originals. It’s because by the time it came out people were utterly sick of the zombie craze of the late 00s and early 2010s. The market was over saturated like nothing I’ve ever seen. Zombie movies, games, and shows were everywhere. People wanted something different, and you can’t make a dead rising game without zombies
For some reason I think people have forgotten just how insufferable and annoying the zombie trend was at its peak.
Also at the time in order to play the damn game you had to pay 5OO$ for a cable box.
@@thatoneantoid51 that too. People also forget how disastrous the launch of the Xbox one was. Almost destroyed the Xbox brand forever- they just barely were able to recover but they’re still eclipsed by Sony after so many switched to ps4.
Funnily enough the need for damage control after it’s launch was a major reason that Xbox decided to give all its console exclusives PC ports at launch, which was necessary to garner revenue and good faith from their customer base after alienating so many. The huge success of game pass and it’s increase in annual revenue for MS was the main motivating force for Sony to begin porting its IPs to PC, so in a way the ineptitude and shocking disconnection of MS from their base is the reason we have games like GoW and TLOU on PC. Crazy shit

Actually for me Off the Records is my fav in the series, as it lets you play as Frank in Fortune City and have an alternative story of DR2 but also in coop have Chuck Greene be part of it too. And it was the one game where you could play infinitely in coop with a buddy and have massive fun however you wanted as both great protagonists of the series combined. I never really played DR1 much back then and only really got into the series with DR2 and Off the Record, but i was hyped af for DR3 at the time and pre-ordered it back when the Xbox One came out (I even got the game before my console arrived so i was looking at the disc and were longing to play it). I never actually finished any of the DR games ever. But at some point i at least played each of them (and yes even DR4) and i enjoyed each game (yes even DR4).

I genuinely believe that 1, 2 and 3 are an amazing trilogy of solid games
Each has their own issues and flaws but I genuinely don’t bat an eye when people tell me any of the 3 is their favorite game in the trilogy
It’s an overall pretty good and consistent trilogy
2 is my personal favorite I just hope drdr fixes some of 1’s clunkiness, ai and control issues that make the game feel weird

People always say the dead has before was horrible, but let’s be honest, dead, rising four was just building off of 3 with 3 building off of two. Two was enough to remove the camera, and then three was drastic enough to remove the survivors and fundamentally change the psychos. Deadrising 2 I loved at the time but as I get older it’s plain to see the downward trajectory began with the changes in 3. People wanted better controls not to remove the camera. Remove the survivors and then for completely removed psychos too. People didn’t fall in love with terrorizing one because they liked mindlessly kill zombies for hours.

What? Sales aren’t a defining factor of popularity dude. Alien Isolation is loved now but it tanked in initial sales. Some games get hyped up and then just fail to live up to it and die out. It’s pretty weird to call dead rising 3 a more popular game than 1 and 2. Plus it isn’t even talked about that much, it was by no means as popular as the first two
As someone who recently became interested in Dead Rising, I have no doubt that the third game is the most forgotten. Everyone talks about how the first one is great, the second one is really good, Off Records is better than the second one and how bad the fourth game is.

DEAD rising 3 was the goat. People mocked it for being xbox exclusive. My only complaint is it felt more of a broken up linear map then RD2. But it's soild compared to DEAD rising 4.

absolutely LOVE DR3. On my second playthrough rn as I watch this video, and I find Nick to be my favorite protag of the main 3. I like how realistically overwhelmed he is throughout the game, like any normal dude would be. characters are fleshed out and the combos are pretty wild.
my only main gripe with the game is the open world is kinda annoying to navigate due to the size and layout, but I can live with that.

I loved this game. It's my favorite out of the entire series, due to the gameplay and story.
Dead rising 3 was the best co op dead rising of all time! you could level up as player 2 to which in dead rising 2 you couldn't.
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The complete character assassination of Isabella was unforgivable. She went from being vengeful to realising her brother’s madness and then working to atone.
She created the inhibitor and tried to make it synthetic whilst working on a cure for everyone. Hell, she worked for Phenotrans just to make sure she wasn’t in jail and therefore unable to help. She even tried to expose them when they took her work so she could try to prevent future outbreaks like Las Vegas and Fortune City.
And then they have her cause the outbreak of Los Perdidos? In a bid to find the cure not for humanity, but so she could restore some honour to the Keyes’ family name? It was a complete 180 of her character arc. Hell, even Marion Mallon was against it when she had proposed it.
Capcom Vancouver was a master class in character assassinations. Chuck Greene went from decent, upstanding citizen and devoted father to crime boss who was a devoted father. Frank West went from photojournalist who was a jerk but had a good sense of justice and the selflessness of a hero to a callous, sarcastic jerkass who would leave someone tied up in a building with a monster nearby. Isabella went from vengeful terrorist to an atoner dedicating to righting the wrongs of her brother back to being a monster no better than her brother with no build up.
With Capcom working to reinvigorate interest in the series again, I hope they retcon what Capcom Vancouver did to their characters.
I feel like this game atleast tried to be dead rising but with a different take and actually completes and treats any past characters with respect unlike dead rising 4 and it’s attempt to “innovate”

It never did
No game NEEDS sequels. But 2 and 3 had something to add, and add they did. The Dead Rising trilogy is a great story that ties itself into a bow very neatly.
I could have forgiven a lot of 4 if the psychopaths were you know psychopaths and a proper coop mode.. A cutscene and challenging fight that usually dropped an item that would make the game easier. You could feel the mega man inspiration. The lack of coop in the open work really killed the fun to an already mediocre game. Deadrising 2 and 3 are proof that even if they aren’t as good as the original Capcom understood the joy of coop back then. I can only hope that They look at coop as a feature for future titles. Imagine an action based spin off of RE that took the action of 5 and 6 make an awesome coop shooter with a bit of horror mixed in for those laughing at your friend for screaming back then. Coop in Devil May cry 3 on switch was such a cool feature!

You know how much I love Dead Rising, I played Dead Rising 1 and 2 and I finished them both, but I never got the chance to play DR3 because it came only on XBOX ONE and honestly, they somehow screwed it up because if it would've came to PS4, I would've play it for sure. Dead Rising 2 got me a lot of attention the first time I played it because you can customize any weapon to make it powerful against zombies and psychopaths and also customize the motorcycle with the chainsaw, how cool was that😎😎🔥

Bro, dead rising three was one of the first exclusive Xbox one games that didn’t come out on Xbox 360 at least I don’t think so because I for sure never played it on Xbox 360 bro I played that shit for like two years straight
The main criticism I have towards the psychos is how tossed in they feel to the setting, the seven deadly sins theming doesn't help imo as instead of crafting psychos that naturally fit into the world they have to make locations that justify the premise of the psycho's themes. Kenny and Albert are an exception to this, but they have their own issues. Albert seems very random, it seems like they just needed something big to end a story mission on and plucked one of the seven sin psychos who could most easily be jammed in without much set up.
And the issue I take with Kenny is that his feels the most sloppy, you don't even need to do his survivor mission to encounter him as a psycho later on but the game still acts like you did it regardless. I have no idea why they did this frankly, seems they missed the point of the boss if they were just going to make him an available fight regardless.

When we play Dead Rising 2 im curious how it will compare.
Deadrising 2 could be considered a direct upgrade, many will say the first one is better due to nostalgia and the fact that it started the franchise. I think the second is so much better due to not only being able to play co-op but with the new combo weapons! Both S tier games but clearly 2 is much more improved. I just played Off the record with my buddy when the game was on sale on steam for summer, good nostalgia. Btw I recommend off the record if your going to buy deadrising 2.
I think the only thing DR3 did wrong was mess up the tone and everything else just shifted with it, DR4 then took that messed up tone and flanderized it
I saw somewhere that dead rising 1 and 2 has the character have the most lore and development ever while the main guy in DR3 juts goes “holy shit balls.”
I enjoy the original trilogy but the one I had the most fun with was the third one. I think because it was the only game I had for Xbox One so played it the most. I even go back to it at least once a year for so good old zombie slaying fun although graphically it is quite ugly now.

For me the games lost a bit of their charm when I realized you didn’t have to escort survivors. I loved doing that. I actually think that’s why I stopped playing 3. This and a lot of other small things. I thought it was OK overall. The controls were decent, more weapons, graphics and environments were more immersive. But always find myself replaying 1 & 2 more.
DEADRISING 3 is so forgotten that my Xbox One doesn't show it in "my games & apps" despite being installed.

I played dr4 on ps4 and I was disappointed in how the story and direction went fr but I like the look and play of dr3
If DR ended after 3 I think this game would’ve been received better than it did. The progression of mechanics and scale would’ve made sense for a trilogy where each one improved something over the last.This game isn’t bad by any means but in comparison to the other 2 I think that’s why people don’t talk about this game enough. The large scale and lack of threat from the zombies unlike the first 2 games is what people tend to dislike about this game but as a climax to the trilogy it would’ve made sense instead it created a bad trend for the series with 4s pathetic game design which was inspired by this game. I’m would’ve been ok with this games deviation in game design from the first 2 of this was the last game since it would’ve been a huge spectacle like it’s should’ve been. On reflection of this games story the 4th game shouldn’t have been made everything wraps up by having Nick be immune it feels so cheap to have the 4th when this game imo was the climax of not only the story but gameplay

I enjoyed this game a lot myself. 1 and 2 are the legends. 3 is okay. 4 looks good on paper but the execution was bad.
i never played DW3 and likely never will. honestly the big turn off for me is the bizarrely bleak and depressing visuals they were going for. which is fine on its own but the game itself still has its campy over the top feel with the weapons and fighting mechanics. it just doesn't make sense tone wise. they should have gone with a twisted metal black approach and make the gameplay match its darker tone and story.

I think another thing that I really liked about DR3 was that they gave you a five day time limit, but you could still complete the main story (pre overtime) in 3 days. This made it a lot easier for people who complained about the time limits in the previous games, yet still kept a sense of urgency.

The story and characters were lackluster for different reasons. One of them is the lack of gray tone that the first two DR games had as most of the antagonists of the story, while bad, did some of the things they did for reasons: Barnaby did what he did to help make more meat for America. Brock was doing his duty and what he thought was right. Sullivan helped cause the Fortune City outbreak to save more lives with the queens to make Zombrex. Marian helps make Zombrex, but at the cost of innocent lives. Carlito did it to get revenge on a USA research team for what they did to Santa Cabeza. TK was the only antagonist who wasn't gray; despite that, he was still a great character. The antagonists of 3 don't have that or feel as good as the characters before. Ronald is a worse version of TK's motives, without the charm or character he had; I also thought his plot twist was just dumb and for the sake of a final boss, and Hemlock wants to take over the US and gain more power. The characters I also feel weren't that great. Some of 1's characters, like Otis and Jessie, could have developed much better. Many of them, like Frank, Isabela, Brad, and Brock were well done (I'm mixed on Carlito). Same with all of 2's characters like Chuck, Stacey, Rebecca, and Sullivan. They also had some grayness. Frank came to Wilmette to get a big story and become famous. Isabella helped cause the first outbreak in the US but came to regret it for how much damage had happened. Chuck, a motocross superstar, goes on Terror is Reality to win prize money to get Zombrex for his daughter Katie, despite knowing what he does on it is messed up. Stacey, the head of the CURE branch in Nevada due to the loss of her sister, wants zombies to be put down peacefully instead of being killed violently for entertainment. Rebecca wants to get the big story to prove herself. These characters here feel like real people. Now, it's not to say that some of the 3 don't feel like people. It's just that a lot of them weren't that interesting. Nick was okay, but I feel pales in comparison to Frank and Chuck, Dick and Annie were fine, but I felt they were wasted potential, Rhonda was okay, Gary was stupid but funny, and Diego was just a moran. I also didn't like how they handled the returning DR1 and 2 characters. I didn’t like how the psychopaths were handled in Dead Rising 3. One of the problems I have with them is that most of them don’t feel like broken people because of the outbreak, nor do they feel scary like a literal psychopath. They just felt like jokes, and their reasons for fighting Nick most of the time are just ridiculous and feel like it's just for the sake of a boss encounter. The only ones that felt like people were Zhi and Kenny. Most of the rest felt way too jokeful. This is just my opinion.

How does the chip work. Wouldn't you have to refill it very often? Also how would you know if it malfunctioned before it is too late?
I imagine by micro dosing throughout the day so it doesn’t completely run out and possibly you go to a doctor every few months and get a new chip kinda like insulin I suppose?
I never had an xbone so i picked it up on steam and didn't expect much, especially after the fans criticism of it.
I'm about an hour or two from finishing it and i have a couple if things to say.
I eventually had to start skipping movie scenes. The dialougue and script are absolutely fucking awful. Its saints row reboot levels of cringe. I actually ended up turning the sound off because I was getting annoyed everytime he said holy shitballs. It's really hard to watch and listen to.
However if dead rising ever gets a new game it's gonna have to use some of the mechanics from 3 which i found fun. The weapons, combos and creating said combos were fun and easy. The zombies are way cool and theres a lot of them. Movement was really good and the control of nick was nice. I like the jank controls and restricted movement of 1 and 2 but 3 games of that does grow stale and was only acceptable at that point because of the time it came out.
Also i really need to put this out herebl because I've saw some people in the comments that think sales equal popularity. Dead rising 3 sold well because microsoft gave the team making it money to make it an xbox exclusive so they could add it to their very small list of games on launch and was bundled with copies.
Just because 1 million people bought something doesn't mean 1 million people loved it. The hours and hours of content labelled dead rising 3 sucks is proof enough for me (and actually playing through it myselfqnd not vibing with it)
Obviously if it's your favourite then all power to you and i hope in DR5 we get an experience that meets us all down the middle

Dead rising 3 has a big problem with combo weapons most of the shit you can do in that game is useless, you only need to upgrade the combo skill until you can fuse blunt with whatever weapon you find and the splitter shreds through every single enemy in the game.
