it's alright guys. It's already something you can do your good at and makes you different....it's something you might have silenced long ago and feel better towards others about doing. But I now have finally discovered that when I was 5 and wanted to write Children books I had something there. I never thought of it but when I was bored I would doodle stories and at random times in my life. I now finally am a copywriting author on Amazon and Barnes and noble. Here is a theory I have...Peter Pan will eventually become an equivalent of Captain Hook and Captain Hook used to be an equivalent of Peter Pan. Look at the way Captain Hook lives his life. He has a group of men that he is in charge of, all of them behaving immaturely, and Captain Hook lives in fear of time. Peter Pan is essentially living the same way. He has a group of boys he is in charge of, behaving immaturely and Peter Pan lives in fear of growing up. As time eventually gets him (gets older) and if he does not mature, he will be clinging to his childhood that he wants so desperately, becoming more tyrannical over his men as his fear increases, living in even more fear of time.
That's a good theory. In a sense, Peter Pan and Captain Hook are one and the same. Just one version is the past, and the other one is the future him. And he is his own worst enemy. They are two sides of the same coin, a boy who never grew up and a man who escaped his responsibilities.
Agree! I think it is understood as a split archetype. My father was a hook figure and I had dynamics with men that had a Peter Pan like quality: magical and fun but basically immature. When their shadows arose though it was just like father, even if the conscious identity was more “pan” than “tyrant”.
I’m a 63 year old woman. He describes my downfall exactly. I had lots of potential. At school I found all the subjects and all the sports laughably easy and everything interested me. So how could I choose anything in particular to pursue? I drifted. Likewise, the men I encountered. None ever committed properly. I was attractive, popular and happy, life entertained and interested me. Then quite suddenly, it seemed, parents and siblings died, all my friends were absorbed by their large family circles and successful occupations and I am absolutely alone for weeks at a time without any visible achievement and no selling points. I'm experiencing this at 34. I suddenly lost both (all) of my siblings last year, and now my parents are seemingly unbearably old. I no longer have my siblings for company and comfort. It's become absolutely essential for me to have children / start a family, but it feels like it's already too late, and my partner isn't ready. The only friends around are the ones who don't want children. It's a very weird place to be.

I'm 33, he's talking about me and I've known this to be the case for a number of years now, I'm the Peter Pan of my social group. I used to be viewed as popular and driven despite still being quite Peter Pan like, I had a lot of interest from women around my age (and older) but over the past 5 years the only interest has been from much younger women and even they aren't interested for long once they discover how little I have to show for myself. I became 'comfortable' and didn't have to work properly for money from my mid 20s and it really sapped my drive, it's led to a real lack of drive and it's a real rut! it's never too late. i was the see way up until about 27 when my daughter was born. not that I'd advocate parenthood as a means of 'snapping out of' being a man-child (unlike my situation, atleast you're aware of the problem) but it definitely lit a fire under my ass. i know they're complete Chuds, but listening to people like Jocko, David Groggins and even Joe Rogan motivated me a lot to get to the gym every day and attack daily life. it's been a month, hopefully you've made some changes since commenting. leave those young girls alone though lol, that sort of dopamine hit and the following withdrawal is as bad as any drug. an easy cycle to get caught in

Fan Theory; Wendy’s father is a character manifestation in Captain Hook. This isn’t important for Pan, but for Wendy. Wendy is by far ready to grow up when you see her sing to the lost boys. Peter Pan sits in his room alone upset, while wearing the Indian outfit. He still wants to play and try roles without committing. This is also why Peter Pan avoids Wendy’s kiss in the beginning. Also notice he seeks out Wendy, because she possesses his shadow. Perhaps a women are the biggest reason we as men wise up and mature.
Interestingly, in play productions of Peter Pan the actor who plays Mr. Darling also plays Hook. Disney continued this in the animated movie and the live action movie did as well.
I think that’s very profound. When looked at from Biblical sense Husbands are commanded to love their wives. Over the past few years I have been thinking what that means and I’ve realized that one of the elements is becoming a man of strong character to support your wife. That what love is, it’s sacrifice, but when you sacrifice something you do gain something in return. We sacrifice time and energy for skills and knowledge. Hence picking your sacrifice. The saying is woman challenge men and men challenge the world or something like that. I am not sure if I am interpreting this right but to me it sounds like “Woman cause men to see their own insecurities so in response men challenge the world to overcome those insecurities and in the process gain the attention of the woman.” I know people gag at traditional gender roles these days but traditional roles are a mark of maturity. The thing is, I think real maturity isn’t making these choices because society says so but more about contenting with them and carving your own path but in a way that not only benefits you but the people around you too. The problem is, if Pan is the immature boy then tinker bell is immature woman. Tinker bell is obsessed with her appearance and is superficial and tries to get Wendy killed because she Peter Pan would mature if he ended up with Wendy. These day girls are selling their bodies on only fans to man children. The man children get false intimacy and the tinker bells get money and false gratification.

Then after a rotator cuff surgery of my right shoulder, I did not feel like I was physically able to properly perform the tasks needed, (also had terrible complications with my hand from the surgery) and so decided to step down and just try being a cashier. It actually pays almost as much as I was making, but not all the responsibility. Well, I am rediscovering the child in me as to what is next? This position is actually more physically demanding than I had thought, so, I am trying to reinvent myself again at 63. Not easy!! Like you said, people look and you and just do not see any potential. It is now my job to help new employers see me as an asset to their business because of my life experience! It's a wonderful thing that everyone can see something different in a story. That's what makes each and everyone in this world so special, Is that we all see different things in a story or have different favorite parts or relate to different things in a story. Thank god i found this guy at 20, especially with no figures to look up to, let alone father archetypes. Im also joining the military and have felt a calling to becoming a good adult man, but peterson always puts it into a good perspective in a way where i can verbalize those emotions and thought processes that I've felt over a long period of time. I definitely know what it's like to feel like a Peter pan but i know what it's like to feel freedom from that mental cage, even at my young age, I've never felt like staying a child was a good thing but was afraid of sacrifice until a certain point. Instead I'd carry this nihilistic point of view which certainly didn't help. It took me a while to find and experience the upside to sacrifice and hard work, feeling that gratifying sense of accomplishment towards a goal that would better my situation in the world and towards my development was really an awakening to me. It told me I'd better wake the hell up and pay attention, cause if not then the world will pass right by, then one day im gonna wake up in pure misery at age 30 wishing i could start over, and by then it's really hard to recover. And so in many ways I understand what he's talking about, not only conceptually but through my own experiences in life. So i use my experience and findings to help other younger kids or my fellow peers who are in their own ruts, of course nobody can truly solve someone else's problems and it's very dependant on if they wanna listen to you or not. But you can always point them in the right direction or lead by example, then maybe they'll open up and you can show them where to look. Anyways, that's my TED talk. Psychology sure is an amazing subject and i love to learn about it.

I'm turning 20 next month, I feel like I'm wasting away my days by just escaping from what I need to do. I know on a logical level that it is necessary to have a goal and to keep working towards it, but on a emotional level I have a tendency to go "eh I'll do it eventually"

For the love of God don't do that - smack that part of yourself out of you and find something you love doing. Most of my friends put in ZERO time or effort to develop themselves in any meaningful way during their 20s. Rather they spent their time playing video games, goofing off, and working deadend jobs. Not one of them ever had any less opportunity than the other - they just chose to waste time. Now that we are all turning 30, these same individuals are as miserable as they have ever been. They did not take advantage of their time and they are paying for it dearly. It's very hard to see. If having a specific goal is hard, at least have a vision of your future that can be pursued tangibly.
What makes Hook a great movie is due to the toptic of this video: that Peter Pan realizes that he has to move on from being a forever child in Neverland and finally grow up, sacrificing a careless but also a meaningless and superficial life in Neverland for a responsible but also more full-filling life as a grown-up family man surrounded with loved ones, while Captain Hook becomes the man-child who refuses to grow up and move on, and though sacrifices the chance for a new life in order to continue his pointless and downright childish fued with Peter, only to end up as a lonely and broken man with nothing to show for the life-choice he made.
my faourite part in peter pan is when wendy talks about wanting to be a wife and have a family. that part really stuck out from my childhood. ill never forget the dragon of chaos with a clock in his stomach, it left such an impact thank jordan beef peterson.
What he conveniently omits is that often with these adult children he's decrying there are adults who consciously and unconsciously strive to keep these wo/man childs in their stunted infantile and infantilised state. 'Adult children' are often conscious of this situation but when they are having to resist with their immediate circle these dynamics it's very hard, often extremely hard to break away from this environment. It takes years and years and that is if they are successful in 'escaping' this pervasive invisible force field.
I am a foreigner living in Thailand and I can see this Peter Pan Story every single day. People over 30 or even much older, which couldn't take the turn and stayed in their 20s, hanging around bars, talking to girls, no responsibility or whatsoever.

This hit hard. I'm a grown ass man who loves videogames, then my baby was born. I still foolishly bought a Nintendo switch and PS5 and tons of games on sale. I saw another sale recently and reality hit me like a ton of bricks: even if my favorite game/s where free today, what will happen after I download them? They are not getting played in the foreseeable future. I'm considering leaving the hobby altogether, I want to change careers and earn a living by doing something drastically different, if I ever want to do that while caring for my daughter and still keep my current job (during the transition) I have to get rid of this distractions. Instead of having fun with videogames, I am enjoying the happy times with daughter(she's in the terrible two's so it's a little rocky LOL)
Peter Pan is the bad guy though. The original play was going to be called “Peter Pan the boy who hated mothers” but they changed it to “Peter Pan the boy who wouldn’t grow up” to avoid getting the mothers of the kids who would see the play upset. He kidnapped kids and when they grew up (because they actually never stop growing up) Peter would kill them. Hook is supposed to be a kid who escaped getting killed.

As it occurs your Peter Pan dissertation is a parallel of what I have espoused on a few occasions over the past 30 years. So it's pleasing to find someone of your calibre expressing the same genera. Iv lived in CA my entire life (I don’t recommend btw) and I have worked with a lot of Latino/Hispanics within a multitude of different jobs… They are great guys and they work their asses off, never complain and love their families…. Here’s is the thing … a lot of these dudes are 26-34 and live with their parents. I’m not even just taking about single males, but also married guys with kids…They live under the roof of their folks and nobody would dare accuse these guys “failing to launch” as adults, but when a white American guy finds himself under his folks roof for “whatever” reason, he’s a failed, outcast?? …. Like WTF? .. is that Peter Pan?, or do white baby boomers like to talk down to a generation they don’t understand themselves?
I'm not going to say having your independence is not important or that its not important for you to develop as a person away from your family. That being said, the way our culture idealizes this is extreme and I think you are right in associating it with baby boomers. They come from a time where the US was at a peak growth cycle - this is when you could move away from your family with an ordinary job and not live paycheck to paycheck. It was Manifest Destiny 2.0 and there was money to be made anywhere. My great-grandfather raised his family and could afford a house in LA during the 50s as BARBER. So, unsurpisingly that sort of scenario became the normal expectation for adults. However we are in the opposite position. We are in a major decline cycle right now. I live in SoCal so I know what it costs. 2.2k a month for an average apartment. Average home price is 750k. $6 gas prices, high food costs, stagnate wages. I don't know many people that truly live on their own. They are either at home still, have roommates, or are married. Even some of those who are married still live with their parents. Unless you make a really great living, it's very difficult to live by yourself here. That's just the time we live in. "Communal" living will become more common simply out of necessity. Until there's another growth cycle of course.
You are taking “leaving home” too literally. It’s about a psychological and emotional maturity. You can practically contribute to the economics of your family home and become an asset rather than a burden without physically leaving the building. You can leave the building for another city but still be an emotionally and practically dependent child.
Im single living with my divorced mom. Let me tell you living with parents is normal in every culture except white. In my book its ok as long as you are pulling your own weight financially and have a life. As for couples with children living with grandparents, it has been normal for thousands of years. A social construct wont change it. The part that may get tricky is when inlaws get too involved in the marriage. When a white tries to shame me about living with mom, i ask them if they have an extra 1000 a month to pay for my rent. I rather have that money in case something comes up.

So it's both conscious and unconscious. It's not just JP who says this by the way, this is just a fact of life since our unconscious rules us while are conscious awareness is just a small % of our brain/consciousness. JP provides all the evidence to support his argument when it comes to his Peter Pan analysis, you just have to listen carefully. I would urge you to watch his other lectures about the Unconscious since he's the best guide to get your right foot through the door when it comes to this complex and esoteric reality.
The author of Peter Pan wrote it thinking about his brother that passed away at 14 because Peter Pan is the boy that won't grow up just like his brother.
The other night I was watching Hook with Robin Williams playing Peter Pan…the Scene where he returns to Neverland and the lost boys take hold of an unrecognizable Peter Pan; they then start looking at him closely to try and find the younger Peter and are finally able to see his younger self by moving around his face, it made me tear up. I brought it up with my boy the next day and he thought it was interesting and mentioned this video. I’m 23 now and my youth is fading…it’s time to grow up
I also think one thing about Cpt. Hook is also his hook. He’s the adult who lost a particular _hand,_ maybe it’s a particular thing he can do with his hands, a talent. But he loses it, and what is Hook in personality? He is angry and bitter.
I'm not worrying. I kind of decided it's about thinking what comes to me a making sense so I kind of decided something like "Each time of myself is in charge of itself" doing what comes to me as making sense on how to do things right then. Maybe I could do one job one year and a different job another year. However as a fact, if the universe had different laws of physics and we were created all at once to live in a hyperbolic space with a curvature of -((50 m)^(-2)) randomly scattered with a density of 1 per ((50 m)^2) throughout all of the infinite hyperbolic space and death was nowhere to be found and we were all going to live for ever and weren't going to die and there's no long distance communication and those were the laws of physics and we couldn't do anything to radically change it, first of all, we would probably keep random walking and the density of people would remain the same because I think that's what the math says. Secondly, our minds probably would have adapted to consider each time and place a separate independent environment to be dealt with one at a time with no power to control any of the others, we probably would have adapted to find in normal to focus on one at a time and do things our own way that we feel like doing right then and there. And we probably would keep doing things that way for ever and find it normal since it's been like that our whole entire lives. Maybe at 30, we would have gained awareness that that's what the laws of physics were and why it ended up adapting our minds so well and then feel thankful that those just are the laws of physics. Thankful meaning acknowledging that we would have encountered a real problem if they worked differently and seeing "I guess that's good" but not really paying attention to how it could have been and focusing just on doing what we enjoy doing and not much on how it could have been practically dismissing how it could have been. But in one sense, we maybe would have remained like children for ever always feeling free to deal with each time and place what ever way we feel like dealing with it right then and eventually start the habits of always dealing with it separately and independently of earlier ones using our own thinking from scratch and then claimed that it's the best way with a lot of joy in it now that it is our mind and would have really enjoyed it for ever because that would have actually been how we thought because the problem of nature throwing us so much power was never coming to force us to adjust our minds the hard way when it comes. In actuality, the laws of physics would have set us on a path. However, we wouldn't see it that way and we would see ourselves as roaming free because the laws of physics are just doing it for us and we don't need to think about what they're doing. But we would have a little bit of awareness of it and why it's working. Maybe we would be out of environments that are truly so fundamentally unique and different compared to anything we've done before or major fundamental changes in our thinking from anything we've done before because anything that had the potential to get unlocked in our minds would have already been by the age of 30. However, that doesn't mean we couldn't keep interpreting the environment right then from scratch with low awareness of the past as though you hadn't done it before when you had. And now once we have the habits of interpreting from scratch, we would claim to never tire of life. We would be interpreting from scratch and enjoying it and having our past buried in the sand. In one sense, we would be pretending we're conceiving of higher concepts than we did 5 years ago when we aren't by just asserting with our pure abstract thinking "This object is higher than anything I could have conceived of before" even though it's not the case and like seeing it that way but it means interpreting from scratch and the joys of it, not seeing it as the thing we already looked ahead at. Then it would feel normal that the next one is eventually coming because this one is the future self of an earlier one and we can see that. We would be like "I can kind of see that in actuality, the next one is eventually coming. However, there's no need to anticipate it. I see it only through slow advanced thinking. But I'm really focusing only on this one which I am interpreting from scratch. And I can see through slow advanced thinking that when it is the time of the next one, I will interpret that one from scratch and enjoy it and feel at that time like this one had been lower but it's something I see through interpreting this one from scratch and enjoying it and have some buried in the same awareness of the past and seeing that that is my idea of what it means to say this one is the future self of the previous one" and it would feel normal to feel like the next one is eventually coming but not impatiently waiting for it seeing that once it is the later time, we want to interpret it from scratch. We're be like "We have a 10 year away future self because it's the thing my 5 year away future self sees as it's 5 year away future self. However, once it is that time, I will see it because I see it as my own 5 year away future self just like I see my 5 year away future self now because and not because it's the thing I already knew was coming. And similarly, in 10 years, I will see that I have a 10 year away future self of my own for the same reason as I see now that I have a 10 year away future self." We would be doing a similar thing for the past but have more awareness of the past than the future. In one sense, it would be a though there was no 5 years from now so when it is that time, it would be as though we lived longer than we thought we were going to rather than shorter. And I think that if those were the laws of the universe, that would be how I thought. Maybe in actuality, my mind will become so different and adapt to the environment but I would know that in actuality, my mind would have gone a different way if those had been the laws of physics all along. Maybe by thinking without being so aware of the thinking and planning your doing and doing it through slow advanced thinking, it might be possible to remain sort of child like. Then if the technology to beat aging gets invented and can cure aging within 5 years, then maybe when I'm in my last 5 years of life which is probably about 50 years away, maybe I would take the treatment and see through slow advanced thinking that it's kind of nice to be thrown another later environment and think about it with a lot of joy because it's the same habits of thinking I had all along and be like "It's their 5 year away future self, not mine. I do everything like broken telephone through nearer future selves." and wait till then to take the treatment.

I had kind of the same Idea. It's depression and suicidal tendancy in a way. Don't get comfortable would be my advice. I'm almost 23 now, but at least want to grow up and live. Although, you won't ever be normal. Figure out how to integrate yourself. And know, that fundamentally your character is already defined and can't change much.

I feel like the main problem I have with growing up is leaving the potential for sex with young attractive women behind me. That's definitely the one biggest thing which I think affects most middle aged men and old men. To walk around with the physical attraction to young beautiful women without being able to hook up with them.
There is a disconnect with the Pan story. I think it reflected the generation of women and men in the class from which J.M.Barry came. I just dont see it in the boys from hood or the gals. I just dont think Wendy types ever existed. In any class Wendy not Tinkerbell was too fantastic.

Here is a theory I have...Peter Pan will eventually become an equivalent of Captain Hook and Captain Hook used to be an equivalent of Peter Pan. Look at the way Captain Hook lives his life. He has a group of men that he is in charge of, all of them behaving immaturely, and Captain Hook lives in fear of time. Peter Pan is essentially living the same way. He has a group of boys he is in charge of, behaving immaturely and Peter Pan lives in fear of growing up. As time eventually gets him (gets older) and if he does not mature, he will be clinging to his childhood that he wants so desperately, becoming more tyrannical over his men as his fear increases, living in even more fear of time.

That's a good theory. In a sense, Peter Pan and Captain Hook are one and the same. Just one version is the past, and the other one is the future him. And he is his own worst enemy. They are two sides of the same coin, a boy who never grew up and a man who escaped his responsibilities.
Agree! I think it is understood as a split archetype. My father was a hook figure and I had dynamics with men that had a Peter Pan like quality: magical and fun but basically immature. When their shadows arose though it was just like father, even if the conscious identity was more “pan” than “tyrant”.

I had lots of potential. At school I found all the subjects and all the sports laughably easy and everything interested me. So how could I choose anything in particular to pursue? I drifted.

I was attractive, popular and happy, life entertained and interested me.
Then quite suddenly, it seemed, parents and siblings died, all my friends were absorbed by their large family circles and successful occupations and I am absolutely alone for weeks at a time without any visible achievement and no selling points.

I'm experiencing this at 34. I suddenly lost both (all) of my siblings last year, and now my parents are seemingly unbearably old. I no longer have my siblings for company and comfort. It's become absolutely essential for me to have children / start a family, but it feels like it's already too late, and my partner isn't ready. The only friends around are the ones who don't want children. It's a very weird place to be.

By "unbearably old" I meant that they are so old that it brings me immense pain at the thought of their remaining mortality. Once they die, I have no one. I have no siblings, I only have my parents. I'm 33, he's talking about me and I've known this to be the case for a number of years now, I'm the Peter Pan of my social group. I used to be viewed as popular and driven despite still being quite Peter Pan like, I had a lot of interest from women around my age (and older) but over the past 5 years the only interest has been from much younger women and even they aren't interested for long once they discover how little I have to show for myself. I became 'comfortable' and didn't have to work properly for money from my mid 20s and it really sapped my drive, it's led to a real lack of drive and it's a real rut! Can't complain though I have a nice life and for everything else only myself to blame. Thanks Peterson
it's never too late. i was the see way up until about 27 when my daughter was born. not that I'd advocate parenthood as a means of 'snapping out of' being a man-child (unlike my situation, atleast you're aware of the problem) but it definitely lit a fire under my ass.

Interestingly, in play productions of Peter Pan the actor who plays Mr. Darling also plays Hook. Disney continued this in the animated movie and the live action movie did as well.
I think that’s very profound. When looked at from Biblical sense Husbands are commanded to love their wives. Over the past few years I have been thinking what that means and I’ve realized that one of the elements is becoming a man of strong character to support your wife. That what love is, it’s sacrifice, but when you sacrifice something you do gain something in return. We sacrifice time and energy for skills and knowledge. Hence picking your sacrifice. The saying is woman challenge men and men challenge the world or something like that. I am not sure if I am interpreting this right but to me it sounds like “Woman cause men to see their own insecurities so in response men challenge the world to overcome those insecurities and in the process gain the attention of the woman.” I know people gag at traditional gender roles these days but traditional roles are a mark of maturity. The thing is, I think real maturity isn’t making these choices because society says so but more about contenting with them and carving your own path but in a way that not only benefits you but the people around you too. The problem is, if Pan is the immature boy then tinker bell is immature woman. Tinker bell is obsessed with her appearance and is superficial and tries to get Wendy killed because she Peter Pan would mature if he ended up with Wendy. These day girls are selling their bodies on only fans to man children. The man children get false intimacy and the tinker bells get money and false gratification.

Thank you for your contribution to our lives!! This is such a great video! I am 63 and was a manager in a grocery store in the Natural Vitamin Dept! I worked hard for that position. Then after a rotator cuff surgery of my right shoulder, I did not feel like I was physically able to properly perform the tasks needed, (also had terrible complications with my hand from the surgery) and so decided to step down and just try being a cashier. It actually pays almost as much as I was making, but not all the responsibility. Well, I am rediscovering the child in me as to what is next? This position is actually more physically demanding than I had thought, so, I am trying to reinvent myself again at 63. Not easy!! Like you said, people look and you and just do not see any potential. It is now my job to help new employers see me as an asset to their business because of my life experience! Also, I want to send you my prayers for you and your wife. Also, your sweet daughter whom I also love to listen to!

Thank god i found this guy at 20, especially with no figures to look up to, let alone father archetypes. Im also joining the military and have felt a calling to becoming a good adult man, but peterson always puts it into a good perspective in a way where i can verbalize those emotions and thought processes that I've felt over a long period of time. I definitely know what it's like to feel like a Peter pan but i know what it's like to feel freedom from that mental cage, even at my young age, I've never felt like staying a child was a good thing but was afraid of sacrifice until a certain point. Instead I'd carry this nihilistic point of view which certainly didn't help. It took me a while to find and experience the upside to sacrifice and hard work, feeling that gratifying sense of accomplishment towards a goal that would better my situation in the world and towards my development was really an awakening to me. It told me I'd better wake the hell up and pay attention, cause if not then the world will pass right by, then one day im gonna wake up in pure misery at age 30 wishing i could start over, and by then it's really hard to recover. And so in many ways I understand what he's talking about, not only conceptually but through my own experiences in life. So i use my experience and findings to help other younger kids or my fellow peers who are in their own ruts, of course nobody can truly solve someone else's problems and it's very dependant on if they wanna listen to you or not. But you can always point them in the right direction or lead by example, then maybe they'll open up and you can show them where to look. Anyways, that's my TED talk. Psychology sure is an amazing subject and i love to learn about it.

Most of my friends put in ZERO time or effort to develop themselves in any meaningful way during their 20s. Rather they spent their time playing video games, goofing off, and working deadend jobs. Not one of them ever had any less opportunity than the other - they just chose to waste time.
Now that we are all turning 30, these same individuals are as miserable as they have ever been. They did not take advantage of their time and they are paying for it dearly. It's very hard to see.
If having a specific goal is hard, at least have a vision of your future that can be pursued tangibly.

What makes Hook a great movie is due to the toptic of this video: that Peter Pan realizes that he has to move on from being a forever child in Neverland and finally grow up, sacrificing a careless but also a meaningless and superficial life in Neverland for a responsible but also more full-filling life as a grown-up family man surrounded with loved ones, while Captain Hook becomes the man-child who refuses to grow up and move on, and though sacrifices the chance for a new life in order to continue his pointless and downright childish fued with Peter, only to end up as a lonely and broken man with nothing to show for the life-choice he made.

What he conveniently omits is that often with these adult children he's decrying there are adults who consciously and unconsciously strive to keep these wo/man childs in their stunted infantile and infantilised state. 'Adult children' are often conscious of this situation but when they are having to resist with their immediate circle these dynamics it's very hard, often extremely hard to break away from this environment. It takes years and years and that is if they are successful in 'escaping' this pervasive invisible force field.

This hit hard. I'm a grown ass man who loves videogames, then my baby was born. I still foolishly bought a Nintendo switch and PS5 and tons of games on sale. I saw another sale recently and reality hit me like a ton of bricks: even if my favorite game/s where free today, what will happen after I download them? They are not getting played in the foreseeable future. I'm considering leaving the hobby altogether, I want to change careers and earn a living by doing something drastically different, if I ever want to do that while caring for my daughter and still keep my current job (during the transition) I have to get rid of this distractions. Instead of having fun with videogames, I am enjoying the happy times with daughter(she's in the terrible two's so it's a little rocky LOL)
Peter Pan is the bad guy though. The original play was going to be called “Peter Pan the boy who hated mothers” but they changed it to “Peter Pan the boy who wouldn’t grow up” to avoid getting the mothers of the kids who would see the play upset. Here’s where I’m kinda lost with this….
Iv lived in CA my entire life (I don’t recommend btw) and I have worked with a lot of Latino/Hispanics within a multitude of different jobs… They are great guys and they work their asses off, never complain and love their families…. Here’s is the thing … a lot of these dudes are 26-34 and live with their parents.
I’m not even just taking about single males, but also married guys with kids…They live under the roof of their folks and nobody would dare accuse these guys “failing to launch” as adults, but when a white American guy finds himself under his folks roof for “whatever” reason, he’s a failed, outcast?? …. Like WTF? ..

No, many cultures have multiple generational households. It's normal.
I'm not going to say having your independence is not important or that its not important for you to develop as a person away from your family. That being said, the way our culture idealizes this is extreme and I think you are right in associating it with baby boomers. They come from a time where the US was at a peak growth cycle - this is when you could move away from your family with an ordinary job and not live paycheck to paycheck. It was Manifest Destiny 2.0 and there was money to be made anywhere. My great-grandfather raised his family and could afford a house in LA during the 50s as BARBER. So, unsurpisingly that sort of scenario became the normal expectation for adults.
However we are in the opposite position. We are in a major decline cycle right now. I live in SoCal so I know what it costs. 2.2k a month for an average apartment. Average home price is 750k. $6 gas prices, high food costs, stagnate wages. I don't know many people that truly live on their own. They are either at home still, have roommates, or are married. Even some of those who are married still live with their parents.
Unless you make a really great living, it's very difficult to live by yourself here. That's just the time we live in. "Communal" living will become more common simply out of necessity. Until there's another growth cycle of course.
I think it also depends on if they are contributing to the household. Eventually though, I think it’s ideal for them to buy their own land/property.
You are taking “leaving home” too literally. It’s about a psychological and emotional maturity. You can practically contribute to the economics of your family home and become an asset rather than a burden without physically leaving the building. You can leave the building for another city but still be an emotionally and practically dependent child.

In my book its ok as long as you are pulling your own weight financially and have a life. As for couples with children living with grandparents, it has been normal for thousands of years. A social construct wont change it. The part that may get tricky is when inlaws get too involved in the marriage.
When a white tries to shame me about living with mom, i ask them if they have an extra 1000 a month to pay for my rent. I rather have that money in case something comes up.

So it's both conscious and unconscious. It's not just JP who says this by the way, this is just a fact of life since our unconscious rules us while are conscious awareness is just a small % of our brain/consciousness. JP provides all the evidence to support his argument when it comes to his Peter Pan analysis, you just have to listen carefully. I would urge you to watch his other lectures about the Unconscious since he's the best guide to get your right foot through the door when it comes to this complex and esoteric reality.

The other night I was watching Hook with Robin Williams playing Peter Pan…the Scene where he returns to Neverland and the lost boys take hold of an unrecognizable Peter Pan; they then start looking at him closely to try and find the younger Peter and are finally able to see his younger self by moving around his face, it made me tear up.

I'm not worrying. I kind of decided it's about thinking what comes to me a making sense so I kind of decided something like "Each time of myself is in charge of itself" doing what comes to me as making sense on how to do things right then. Maybe I could do one job one year and a different job another year. However as a fact, if the universe had different laws of physics and we were created all at once to live in a hyperbolic space with a curvature of -((50 m)^(-2)) randomly scattered with a density of 1 per ((50 m)^2) throughout all of the infinite hyperbolic space and death was nowhere to be found and we were all going to live for ever and weren't going to die and there's no long distance communication and those were the laws of physics and we couldn't do anything to radically change it, first of all, we would probably keep random walking and the density of people would remain the same because I think that's what the math says. Secondly, our minds probably would have adapted to consider each time and place a separate independent environment to be dealt with one at a time with no power to control any of the others, we probably would have adapted to find in normal to focus on one at a time and do things our own way that we feel like doing right then and there. And we probably would keep doing things that way for ever and find it normal since it's been like that our whole entire lives. Maybe at 30, we would have gained awareness that that's what the laws of physics were and why it ended up adapting our minds so well and then feel thankful that those just are the laws of physics. Thankful meaning acknowledging that we would have encountered a real problem if they worked differently and seeing "I guess that's good" but not really paying attention to how it could have been and focusing just on doing what we enjoy doing and not much on how it could have been practically dismissing how it could have been. But in one sense, we maybe would have remained like children for ever always feeling free to deal with each time and place what ever way we feel like dealing with it right then and eventually start the habits of always dealing with it separately and independently of earlier ones using our own thinking from scratch and then claimed that it's the best way with a lot of joy in it now that it is our mind and would have really enjoyed it for ever because that would have actually been how we thought because the problem of nature throwing us so much power was never coming to force us to adjust our minds the hard way when it comes. In actuality, the laws of physics would have set us on a path. However, we wouldn't see it that way and we would see ourselves as roaming free because the laws of physics are just doing it for us and we don't need to think about what they're doing. But we would have a little bit of awareness of it and why it's working. Maybe we would be out of environments that are truly so fundamentally unique and different compared to anything we've done before or major fundamental changes in our thinking from anything we've done before because anything that had the potential to get unlocked in our minds would have already been by the age of 30. However, that doesn't mean we couldn't keep interpreting the environment right then from scratch with low awareness of the past as though you hadn't done it before when you had. And now once we have the habits of interpreting from scratch, we would claim to never tire of life. We would be interpreting from scratch and enjoying it and having our past buried in the sand. In one sense, we would be pretending we're conceiving of higher concepts than we did 5 years ago when we aren't by just asserting with our pure abstract thinking "This object is higher than anything I could have conceived of before" even though it's not the case and like seeing it that way but it means interpreting from scratch and the joys of it, not seeing it as the thing we already looked ahead at. Then it would feel normal that the next one is eventually coming because this one is the future self of an earlier one and we can see that. We would be like "I can kind of see that in actuality, the next one is eventually coming. However, there's no need to anticipate it. I see it only through slow advanced thinking. But I'm really focusing only on this one which I am interpreting from scratch. And I can see through slow advanced thinking that when it is the time of the next one, I will interpret that one from scratch and enjoy it and feel at that time like this one had been lower but it's something I see through interpreting this one from scratch and enjoying it and have some buried in the same awareness of the past and seeing that that is my idea of what it means to say this one is the future self of the previous one" and it would feel normal to feel like the next one is eventually coming but not impatiently waiting for it seeing that once it is the later time, we want to interpret it from scratch. We're be like "We have a 10 year away future self because it's the thing my 5 year away future self sees as it's 5 year away future self. However, once it is that time, I will see it because I see it as my own 5 year away future self just like I see my 5 year away future self now because and not because it's the thing I already knew was coming. And similarly, in 10 years, I will see that I have a 10 year away future self of my own for the same reason as I see now that I have a 10 year away future self." We would be doing a similar thing for the past but have more awareness of the past than the future. In one sense, it would be a though there was no 5 years from now so when it is that time, it would be as though we lived longer than we thought we were going to rather than shorter. And I think that if those were the laws of the universe, that would be how I thought. Maybe in actuality, my mind will become so different and adapt to the environment but I would know that in actuality, my mind would have gone a different way if those had been the laws of physics all along. Maybe by thinking without being so aware of the thinking and planning your doing and doing it through slow advanced thinking, it might be possible to remain sort of child like. Then if the technology to beat aging gets invented and can cure aging within 5 years, then maybe when I'm in my last 5 years of life which is probably about 50 years away, maybe I would take the treatment and see through slow advanced thinking that it's kind of nice to be thrown another later environment and think about it with a lot of joy because it's the same habits of thinking I had all along and be like "It's their 5 year away future self, not mine. I do everything like broken telephone through nearer future selves." and wait till then to take the treatment.

I think I've been suffering so hard from this that I didn't even expect to live enough to become adult, the idea was to die at 18 years old. Now my psychologist keeps asking what's my goal in life and I can't even tell her that I wasn't even planning to live this long
I had kind of the same Idea. It's depression and suicidal tendancy in a way. Don't get comfortable would be my advice. I'm almost 23 now, but at least want to grow up and live. Although, you won't ever be normal. Figure out how to integrate yourself. And know, that fundamentally your character is already defined and can't change much.
I'm sad your thought process has been like this....there is a lot of good if you choose it. Choose to do good...help others...that will begin opening your eyes to purpose and true joy and love. I feel like the main problem I have with growing up is leaving the potential for sex with young attractive women behind me. That's definitely the one biggest thing which I think affects most middle aged men and old men. To walk around with the physical attraction to young beautiful women without being able to hook up with them.
