As a life-long robotics professional, please permit me to put a fine point on the way the H1 is being marketed. Unitree would do well to move away from describing the H1 as “the first general purpose humanoid robot”. Here’s why:
I founded White Box Robots in 2000.
By 2003 we had functional prototypes. By 2006 we started selling the first production run. What could our 914 PC-BOT do? Technically not much at that early release. Unmapped autonomous navigation and a few other basic functions. We deliberately described it as “a general purpose autonomous robot”. Hoping that people would buy it and figure out useful things to do with it. In retrospect, we couldn’t answer the basic question “What does it do?” History is repeating itself here. That approach did not work for us and I would argue it’s not a great move for Unitree either. Develop a couple *legitimately* useful tasks the robot can perform (with polish) right out of the box and build on it. Commit to that process like your company’s survival depends on it. Because it does.
If that machine doesn’t solve a fist-pounding need pretty quickly, it’s going to be little more than a passing mechanical curiosity.

there are a lot of small details in industrial automation applications that are very simple for a human but can't be automated because it is overkill for automation purposes. This results in extra manpower even with complete automation that doesn't do anything meaningful.(like changing the stretch film roll in a palletizer)Can these robots realistically fill these gaps and how time consuming to train them do stuff generally speaking?

It might just be me, but comparing the UT-G1 to Boston Dynamics' Electric Atlas, the G1 seems to have some room for improvement. One area that stood out in the video demonstration was getting up from a prone position. There was a moment where it seemed to lack the power to smoothly rise to its feet.
In contrast, the Atlas displayed a higher level of efficiency and fluidity in its movements. The G1, on the other hand, appeared to require more adjustments to maintain its center of mass, resulting in a slightly less efficient and jittery motion. I'm hopeful that Unitree will continue to refine their design, especially considering the advancements we're seeing in the robotics field.

Humanoid robots provide a perfect way to help three new groups of people: elderly that want to work, veterans with disabilities, and people recovering from medical procedures. How? They can use telepresence to control the robot in a workplace. The human mind helps the robot body expand its use as a companion or proxy worker. My minor surgery, for example, had a four week movement restriction. This robot and a Meta Quest 3 AR system, however, would have allowed me to do the regular tasks without offloading them to coworkers. This concept first appeared in the movie Runaway (70s ?). One problem exists: reducing the time--and errors--for humans with VR/AR gear to control or teach the robot.
