When I first saw the talent show performance of this my jaw dropped the same time as Carson's jaw and I burst out laughing and then proceeded to start crying at how beautiful and powerful the performance is. Great song choice Monét. As an opera lover and violist this was pure class and was a total showstopping moment. I know other Queens read you for getting confused with Bob the Drag Queen, but with that performance let's just say your X Change rate has just skyrocketed and I for one will never confuse you with anyone else. I am thankful to finally being able to experience your talent for Opera. Please never hold back, because I for one expect to hear you singing opera when I see you in New York! Let me tell you about Leontyne Price, in the role of Tosca. I first heard it when I was 6 years old. My father was a fan, and I have NEVER heard a better Tosca.
Soprano Kathleen Battle, has THE most CRYSTALINE vocal quality of any opera singer.
Oh my God...and Lawrence Brownlee is one of the greatest tenors I've ever heard in my LIFE!
Pretty Yende and Angel Blue...you need to check those sistahs out for real.
These are all amazing black opera singers...who are still with us, thank god.
Opera IS for everyone. I just saw Polynesian baritone Quinn Kelsey in the role of Rigoletto recently at the Met....and he was the best I've ever heard in that role. I've never seen a Polynesian in a title role at the Met.
But things change. I hope this helps. I hope you get a chance to get into opera. It's amazing.
I'm hella impressed with Monet X Change. Even if she did LIGHT opera. I can see MXC giving Brian Stokes Mitchell or Norm Lewis a run when it comes to great voices of musical theater...if not opera.

As soon as that first note hit, I was stunned! My jaw dropped and my heart was pounding with excitement the whole performance. I literally got tingles all over because it was so beautiful. I love opera/classical music and musical theater and I am a sucker for a good bass voice. I have been obsessed with Monet for a long time and I am even more in love with her after hearing the full range of her vocal talents. I’m rooting for her to win All Stars 7!

As an ethnomusicologist (and a LGBT person), your voice still has a little pop influence in it, but it adds a unique, smooth sound to it. It makes your legati almost effortless, and very easy to listen. It's like eating a piece of dark chocolate with sea salt and caramel - it's a bona fide treat to hear this. I love how you embraced your opera background in the show and gave them a master class in how to sing without autotune. I knew you were great from hearing your Ave Maria, but this just washed over me like a wave of sheer emotion. Especially with that final lower Ab. Goosebumps all around!
