  • In Part 5 of this series, I break down some SBC 350 5.7 Mercruiser Cylinder Heads so that I can inspect the valve stem seals and change the valve springs. I didn't have the proper tool on hand and the parts stores were closed at the time so I fabricated a homemade, DIY valve spring compressor that was quick, cheap, and easy. This valve spring removal tool allowed me to disassemble the heads and see that my valve stem seals were smoked! Good thing I checked. I hope someone finds this video useful. Thanks for watching! In all fairness, the lever tool is about six bucks at the parts store but it was after hours and I needed something in a pinch.

It's a little bit hillbilly. But it works.

@@605BOLT I have a 305 in my 2004 Sea Ray 20’ Select. I am going to build a 6.0 LS for it. I’m not sure how long my Alpha One drive will last with a 400 hp. motor but it should be fun to find out. I suspect with 10.5:1 compression the boat should run in the low 80 mph range. I know it’s well past what the hull is designed for but it’ll be fun and I am sure it may be a little squirrelly. I am binge watching your videos straight through tonight. It takes me back to the days when I'd help my dad and his buddies build high hp. big blocks for their flat bottom v-drives and jet boats. Thanks for posting. I am inspired to get started soon on my new engine.

@@BackyardBeeKeepingNuevo dang that will be a sick build. You're right in saying it might kill your alpha.😬 But only one way to find out. Means a lot you taking the time to comment and watch the videos. Glad you enjoyed them. 👍👍
