  • TIME TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. DAY ONE.
    When you need to get away and relax, then a Jeep is a good way to get to a place with less craziness and more nature. The Georgia Traverse trails offer over 390 miles of track, trails, roads, and river crossings. Join us as we take a three day trip in the North Georgia mountains over the river and through the woods. We downloaded the maps to GaiaGPS and set off to see just how awesome mountain trails in the East can be. They did not fail. Tight turning service roads running to elevations of over 3,700 feet give you ample opportunities to drive on the edge of a drop off. But the views are astounding and rewarding.
    THINGS TO KNOW:
    Overall the trails are a 1-2 on a scale of 10. Most are maintained forest roads.
    We used 4 wheel drive - just to get better traction on the higher trails.
    There are rocks that are in the road, watch your differential.
    Bring a saw or ax; We needed it to get past a fallen tree.
    Bring plenty of water and stuff to eat. It’s remote at times.
    You won’t have cell phone signal most of the time.
    Have a full tank of gas.
    Have a first aid kit.
    Let people know where you are going.
    STAY ON THE TRAILS!
    Check with the proper agencies before camping.

    Thank you Georiga Overland for putting together such a great map and guide to the trails. Here is a link: www.georgiaoverland.com/map.html

    May I suggest bringing even a light duty (electric) chainsaw or at least a hand bucksaw. I've experienced small tree falls on Hale Ridge Road and once got caught to the wrong end of a one way section near there with only a folding hand saw. Not fun but lesson learned! Clayton is a great town to stop for lunch (Universal Joint) or breakfast (Rusted Bike) as well as a huge grocery store (Ingles). I'm fortunate that we're only 100 miles from these beautiful trails.

      We were wishing for a small chainsaw on that day. Even a cordless would have helped. We lived in Snelleville for 3 years while I worked at Stone Mountain Golf.

    My wife and I own a timeshare cabin in Ellijay (we live in Winter Haven, FL). We go every year for the past 18 years and now am planning to move there in 2 years. I am in the market for a new 4xe Rubi to enjoy the North Georgia trails and this channel lets me live vicariously until I pull the trigger on my new purchase. Keep the videos coming!

    Thanks for the video! Charlie's Creek has become one of my very favorite trails, and I will be sad to see it closed. It's one of those trail that you can make as hard or as simple as you want it to be.
    We were there just about a week before you were, and taking hard lines in the washouts can make lots of flex necessary, and lockers can sometimes be needed, if you take the worst lines.

    That is AWESOME! Rocks other than lime rock, creek and river fording, actual hills. A welcomed change from flat sand and swamp, I bet. Putting this on my list. Thanks for sharing.

    I’m from se TN area. Well essentially the TN, NC, GA line. To add to things you need to know. Stock storable food and drink, if during the winter... pack layers as temps vary significantly, and if you are a 2A protector. Definitely keep at minimum a sidearm. It’s not the bears or cats, it’s the boar and coyotes that can be problematic. Trees down are inevitable. Be prepared for them.

      I had a huge tree fall across road at Long's Creek. Trapped by myself. Climbed up to get a signal. Turns out Nat Guard was doing maneuvers nearby and it took them almost 2 hrs to clear it. My hand saw would have taken me weeks!

      The area around there has some environmentally sensitive habitat that they are having issues with. I could see some areas totally closed off if people keep going off the trail. Long ago there was a very old church up in Cashes Valley that was vandalized and burnt down. Though the grave yard is still there. We have this same thing happening in Central Florida and many good wheeling places are now closed.

    Nice video with great scenery. This will be my next wheeling trip. I agree 100% with your tread lightly talk. I am in Naples, Fl. and little by little they are closing more and more trails due to people tearing everything up.

    • @FloridaJeepRides
      @FloridaJeepRides  Před 2 lety +1

    My wife and I have driven the Ga Traverse a couple of times. It is a great ride. Since we are in Tallahassee Fl we went up US 27 to Rome and did the trip West to East. A great trip. Please do not do what a local Jeep group did and drive up the waterfalls.

    • @FloridaJeepRides
      @FloridaJeepRides  Před 3 lety

      One thing we try to do is support the tread lightly concept. It is sad to see what some people do to the environment. There was a portion of the trail that had threatened plant life... had. If people can’t stay on the trails then they just close them off. We have seen this all over central Florida.

    • @galenztwo
      @galenztwo Před 2 lety

      People are mostly idiots, once you understand that it makes it easier to understand. People have to be macho show offs and prove to everyone the can push a gas pedal.. Soon we will have no where to ride and the idiots, well they will move on to seek another hobby to destroy.

    This is really awesome! Great job documenting your trip, and I really appreciate you flashing up the road/trail names throughout your video. That was very helpful as I enjoyed following along with the map as I watched sections of the journey (and I'm also trying to figure out which sections I might be able to carve out for a 1-2 day trip in my 3rd Gen 4Runner since I probably wouldn't be able to get away long enough to do as much as you guys did).
