There are a number of people who really loved the early seasons who have managed to make it onto the team that makes the show now, but there are also jaded, results oriented people in that pipeline who are part of a back and forth process of editing and "optimization." Nickelodeon perceives the current tone and pacing of the show as more successful and representative of the brand as a whole as opposed to the form it took in the early seasons. (Which was materially carried over, in a softened form, from Rocko's Modern Life.) Just like the heavy and offputting focus on the grossout humor in the middle seasons, it's the same principle of taking one or two aspects of what originally succeeded that and forcing them to be the focus rather than keeping them in a balance which neither frustrates nor overwhelms. It's clearly possible for them to make episodes which feel more like the show used to, and a lot of the staff across both the main show and the Patrick Show want to, but Nickelodeon genuinely considers itself to be competing with internet content farms putting out the lowest common denominator of cartoons, and they're trying to match what makes those draw so much viewership at such low cost. Nickelodeon's own CZcams channel has essentially turned into one of them, complete with the low quality and bootleg like art, except the content is official. They believe implicitly that stuff like that is what kids want, rather than simply what they respond to and it's eventually going to collapse on them.

I just realized: if SpongeBob’s parents are now retired, which they weren’t at the start of the series, that would mean that they have in fact aged. Which by proxy would mean that SpongeBob has also aged. But he hasn’t. So somehow, this means that his parents have gotten older, while he has gotten younger, and therefore the space time continuum is broken… there’s some food for thought

I don't see it as a lack of ideas, but more of a lack of confidence in their writing, which is why they have to keep tossing in throwbacks to the past and have a constant source of noise and crazy visuals all the time.
I don't think they're necessarily running out of ideas, I think it might be a lack of incentive to actually try. Like, I'm sure the writers know how much the product sucks and are probably fine with it for a paycheck. But I look at a show like Simpsons and see how far that's ran and it just makes me wonder.

It's been that way for almost a decade but it's gradually gotten worse to the point where this is what they do. Soon there will be full on reairings of old episodes but with an updated resolution and whatnot.

One thing I noticed is that despite shoehorning in everyone's parents a lot the writers seem to think Spongebob's parents are old retirees like the mothers of Mr. Krabs and Squidward.
Which is weird because clearly they aren't, like Spongebob used to have a living Grandmother and now his parents are suppost to be Senior Citizens themeselves? Did his Grandma die off-screen?

So first SpongeBob says that he doesn't make Krabby patties with love. Now that his tie is a clip-on? I know it's sorta a bit of a nitpick but I remember watching Squid on Strike, and he does know how to tie a tie on the beginning.

@@Carossmo that's good that you think that but I love season 5, I have a soft spot for seasons 6-9A and I'm honestly not even scared to say it, this era has some entertaining moments but not perfect some episodes can be randomly cruel but so were many old cartoons, if the hate stoops from Squidward torture or gross-ups then I know right off the bat there's an enter fan in the midst whose likely seen 0 episodes outside rants (not saying they're naturally good but try forming a personal opinion), yeah the episodes also tend to be boring but that's what made them so hysterical and you know what season 1 was also pretty boring so it wasn't that random that later parts were also. As for seasons 10 and later that's garbage, it forces humor way too much and is just as brainrot as Fanboy & Chum Chum but not quite.

The point is that the nostalgia bait is literally just there. Very little about the episodes is really that appealing to more mature audiences. The fact that they’re bringing back old memorable characters doesn’t really change anything about the episode.

3. higher contrast

How are they going to replace Tom Kenny, or Clancy Brown, or Bill Fagerbakke? I wouldn't be surprise if they switched to AI-generated voices in the event that one of the main cast members dies.

It's possible that Mr. Krabs would give up the ownership of the Krusty Krab to SpongeBob and SpongeBob would probably make some changes for the restaurant. I knew that season 14 was an abomination. It never ends, does it? Someday it will, someday it'll happen. Even if Mr. Kenny would retire in voice acting if SpongeBob had a series finale. It's been there for over 20 years, man. Let the show die. Bring a new TV series that has nothing to do with SpongeBob or something. We millennials used to like that show during our time.

It sucks people are so quick to scoff when someone mentions Hillenburg's vision and immediately defend this garbage like we're all claiming to know how he thinks personally
because there's no other way to put it, Hillenburg made this show so good and Nickelodeon was clearly the one always on his back changing or demanding things to make SpongeBob a marketable literal toddler show
And to see it become JUST that, plus all the merchandise Hillenburg's exact worst fear of seeing floating around in the sea was, is now a reality, this IS a desecration of his legacy and everything he stood for, whether it's intentional or not, no one is calling the people responsible monsters who have this intention in mind
but you can't deny that SpongeBob is dead thanks to their decisions, and that's not to get into petty semantics about the show's ratings, SpongeBob as we knew it, SpongeBob as the amazing show that it was, and as the quality show that earn actual awards and inspired so many people, has died, we are watching its corpse being shook in front of kids for cheap entertainment

I mean but the insane thing is that people could just stop watching. It’s not getting better and it never will just from crying. All the ranting and raving does jack SHIT if you still watch. It’s not gonna get cancelled bc older audiences are complaining about it. It’s gonna keep going till ratings drop and as long as people watch it to complain about it it’s just gonna get worse 🤣
Okay everything else is genuinely pretty terrible, but SpongeBob booping his dad on the nose through the split screen felt very classic SpongeBob and had some humor to it in the delivery.

@@andrewbaillie5549 I'm not saying the context we got is good enough to deem it "charming," but in an older episode I could picture him doing that to Squidward specifically, and then hopefully hanging up immediately, instead of extending the call, which kills it the most here imo. Humor in the delivery because.. I mean it's Tom Kenney. His voice sounds rougher and the material they give him isn't great but I still think there's humor in the idea and he still has the energy to pull it off, is all I meant by that part.
An og episode would have probably also had SpongeBob's hand go through the phone itself instead of passing over the split screen, and done more of a visual gag there tbh.
Just end the show already for goodness sake 🤦🏽♀️

Admittedly, I think the continuity spit. Anything released after sponge on the run belongs to the camp Coral/Patrick star show timeline, unless it pacifically shows something only in the original timeline like Patrick’s house
