    Today I am going over a video showing a woman trying to force her horse past a herd of cattle, but it doesn't end so well for either of them. I will be giving my point of view on the methods being used, as well as giving the animal(s) in this video a voice. Don't blindly follow what someone says, even if they are a "professional", use your own critical thinking skills and question the tools, the method, and the trainers advice.
    I am using all footage under the Fair Use Act for criticism and educational purposes, and do not wish for anyone to send hateful messages to the original poster. I hope to spread awareness about this type of unnecessary and dangerous practice that is so prevalent in the dog training world and give dogs a better life. Let me know what you think of it, and what you would like to see next time! Until then, try to Stay Pawsitive :3

    There was a story I read years ago about a woman who was having problems with her horse balking. She started taking books along on her rides and when her horse planted his feet, she would get the book out and read until the horse moved on. No stress on the horse and the woman enjoyed her book. Eventually her horse stopped balking and went forward willingly.

      I did similar....years ago ...my daughters pony Softy would never go past a certainfield full of sheep. He just stopped. So i rode him out and he stopped....we sat and sat....and sat😅 for about half an hour. Then miracle of miracles off we went....next day he stopped for about 10 minutes then off we wdnt. Next day no stopping. Following week trotted past no stopping. Sheep were no longer monsters.
      Shes aggresive. Poorboy. Gosh i didnt realise how bad people were......that horse will go over backwards and kill her one day.

    Clearly, she hasn't built trust between the horse and herself. I horse was terrified of deer. But I was able to hop off and walk him past them. We took our time, and things went smoothly. I wonder how she'd feel if she had to walk through a room full of loose snakes or spiders. Whatever she's terrified of. Nope! You can't stop or turn around. You have to walk through them. I don't care if you're terrified. You have no choice. You'll get pulled, tugged, and slapped until you go. And the room is 100' long.

      Exactly! And add the factor that we have frontal lobes--at least, most of us do--that allow us to think about a situation before responding. A horse as a prey animal did not evolve to ponder whether that sound behind them was a sabre tooth or not. They just reacted by bolting on instinct, and this is how the equine family has survived millions of years. That a horse allows a human on its back, right where a predator would pounce on them, is a wonderment to me. These brave animals should be respected. I was riding a Paso Fino on a forest trail and this gelding was a brave, forward-going horse and well trained. He usually did not balk at anything. But he refused to walk on. After trying a while, I turned him around and we bypassed that part of the trail and took it up later on. I think he smelled something dangerous. There is no telling what it was; but I have always felt trusting the horse's instinct in this case was the right choice, especially since he normally was not spooky or stubborn. There may have been a rattlesnake or such. What good would it have done to force him?

    What a arrogant, pathetic, entitled, and horrific person. She has no sense of how to respect an animal and deserved exactly what she got. I hope Mo was safe and sound because he is a cute little horse and I give him my props for throwing this woman off his back. If the horse world was a better place, this woman would have had her horse taken away from her and been banned from having a horse again. Thank you for talking about this video.

I didn't fight it I just knew something was not ok!! I later found out there was a farm way down the lane that also is a slaughter house for farming meat! Say no more!

    As a trainer, this girl would NOT be allowed out of the yard on a hack alone!! I've had horses that were abused at the racetrack that were better behaved than this woman is!! And I do use the term "woman", very loosely here!! I worked with the owner of that Standardbred Pacer for over 2 years to get him to a safe place to be ridden. The owner didn't ride him at all the whole first year. But she was there, every time I did ride him. She would groom him, pick his feet out, bond with him, and she was able to tack him up, except for the bridle. And I train in a very soft, bendable rubber bit that I make the horse carry. There are no wrinkles at the side of the horses mouth at all. But the bit doesn't slide through the mouth either because I put guards on to prevent that, or I have it on a D ring. When it came time for her to start riding him, I told her, "I ride first, then you will ride." This way, he gets used to you, the owner, not just me, the trainer. It had to be this way for the next year, as he was still very track brained if you took contact. So, now, 3 years later, I have no problems letting her go out on her horse, on a hack, by herself on her own horse. He now trots out nicely when asked, he's still in that rubber bit, still in the lightest contact possible, and responds very willingly to body position, leg pressure coming off to halt, going on to move forward, he ponies other horses, she takes out new riders that I think are ready to go on hacks, and she's enjoying her horse to no end. It's been a long road to get him to where he is today. But every small step taken was a small, deliberate step in his training. The owner was involved in the whole process. From abused brutally by being whipped for breaking in races, to being as complete a bombproof horse that I can make them. Because there will always be something out there that will frighten them, and you have to allow them that fear response. My advice to this person would be, "You have closed your mind to LISTENING TO WHAT YOUR HORSE IS TELLING YOU." You are REFUSING TO LEARN ANYTHING NEW in your horse journey. You were lucky this time. But, what about the next time? You were left in the middle of nowhere, with no traffic, Thank God for small favors there!! Get off your arrogant, egotistical, high horse, and maybe, just maybe, you can LEARN something from this. I do hope the horse made it home safely. That would be my only concern after he bolted away from her. What roads did she have to cross to get to that one? Did any of them have a higher traffic flow?? If you close your mind to LEARNING, you turn into this person, keep your mind open to LEARNING, and you will always learn something new every day when you work with horses. I totally agree with your assessment of this video. Best Regards, from a Retired Paramedic, and a S&R Dog and Handler Team Trainer and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 💖🇨🇦🇺🇲

    I remember posting a comment on this, I said as horses are prey animals it explains some of their behaviours so try and see this situation from your horses point of veiw, I suggested hacking out in that direction with another horse, having another horse go out with them can make the world seem not so scary and hopefully he'd gain confidence so in the future he could hack out alone and wouldn't react in such away, most important though is our bond with our horse, they need to have trust in us just as we need to have trust in them, that starts by treating them with a kind hand, there's no connection being built if the rider is shouting, cussing and pulling at the horse all because they can't control their temper,

  • @loredelore7286
    @loredelore7286 Před rokem +2

    There is a common misconception that turning a horse away from it's perceived threat is teaching it to evade the threat, this is not true. It starts with the first spook and needs remedied well before where this horse is at. It might be 100m away from home or 1k from home. The analogy of the 13th bunny rabbit is apt here. She never noticed the first bunny rabbit and the horses concern, now she has ignored the previous 12 bunny rabbits (or in this instance cows) and ends up in the ditch. No sympathy for this abnoxious girl, just hope the horse was ok.

    After over 20 years since I used to ride im at a time in my life I can ride again. Iv had my induction then hack and absolutely loving being back to what I love, iv also been studying and educating myself so so so much....but can I just say I completely forgot how dark the equine world can be ....I'm an empath especially towards animals , after watching what iv been seeing in youtube alone has made me so scared, bot to be around horses but to be back around people like this 😢 because I will end up arrested if I see anyone hurt a single hair on a horse 🤬 this lady and Tara I just want to rag off the poor horses and rescue them from them both. All the money, posh houses, beutiful stables doesn't make you a good horse person ....no empathy or kindness...I absolutely despise all that behavior. My heart is aching 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

    One of the most idiotic and shameful displays of projection and petulant abuse I have ever seen. How has she managed to keep horses from killing her (or themselves in trying to flee from her) thus far? Sheer dumb luck I think. Huzzah the horse for escaping! I hope he is OK.

    I don't ride alone as I think it's not a good idea haha, but when I have ridden alone a few times quite a while ago I'd just let my arab take in his surroundings and process it his way. I don't like forcing him. If something is scaring him, I just simply get off and do exactly what you explained you would do. Long lead, relaxed demeanor, using positive reinforcement and do little exercises to get his focus on me and also lateral work as that helps him relax.
    This lady definitely caused those reactions out of her horse. Of course we can't take the flight out of horses, but we can help them not get over threshold to the point they freak out and fall in a ditch.
