This Trustmade hardshell roof top tent camper works with all cars, trucks, vehicles as long as it has a rack system. It is easy to mount and is very similar to a Yakima rocketbox or rooftop carrier. The van build goes on! Spring is here and it's time to get going on converting my RAM promaster van in to a camper...again. This is part 7 in the series. We were originally going to hire Rocky Mountain Campervans to do a popup tent conversion on our van...to the tune of $13,000😬. We decided to go with this $1,400 pop up unit instead. Think of all of the extra things that we can do with an extra $11,000! This is a full install, setup, unboxing, installation and review of this rooftop tent. This is the best value for the money on this rooftop tent and can be used on any vehicle with a roof rack. Setup is quick and easy in a matter of minutes. Take down only takes 4-5 minutes. Join me through the conversion of our promaster from start to finish and our #vanlife weekend warrior van.

the 4 wire with the curved ends holds out the flaps on the windows so the side windows has a cover that sticks out. the curved in goes in the flap corners and there is a hole in the metal just under the side windows.

A lot of people don't know this but the entire fabric side can unzip. If you make 2 support bars to stabilize the top half of the tent than you can unzip the side fabric to have a 360 view while having a roof and having a bed to lay down on. It helps during the summer when you want a good breeze. I did it at the beach. The zipper for the side fabric has zippers that are covered by a skirt at the top half of the tent.

Just ordered mine. Reviews seem mostly positive. Price is lower than most (not the cheapest, currently) and I've not seen enough from other brands to warrant an extra $1000-$1500+ for minor upgrades. Thanks for putting your review out here.

Do you think it would be possible to remove the bottom of the tent (like cut it out) what I want to do is put it on top of a little 4x6 trailer and make a tiny camper with it so that I can use the pop-up tent as like a pop top.

My biggest concern if my vw crafter is a high roof. My be to high for the kids. But its defenetly the best solution for Sleeping 4 by a long way

Hey there .. let me start off by saying great informative video. Im currently looking at his tent and i had some consider about the weight. A few websites say that "package weight" is 205 pound but I want to say that include the packaging the tent comes with. You mentioned that weight is about 120-150 pounds and the manufacturer says its a hundreds pounds. Where did you find those specs.

Hey bud, I'm looking to fit something really similar, but its to a much higher van, there will be a fixed ladder going to the roof but with solar panels in front and behind, the tent will only be accessible from one side.
I'm wondering how I can secure it, one idea is having 2 permanent ratchet straps around the entire thing (looping under frame and on top of shell), that are accessible from the ladder side. then I can just tighten the ratchet straps to close the tent. Another idea is only clipping/unclipping the 2 clips that are on the ladder side, and maybe 1 clip from the front and the back if I can reach around to them, but it might be a bit unsecure. What do you think of those ideas? have you got any better ideas from experience?

Why not put the solar panel on the top of the roof tent ,there you will have full power with no problems . Solar panels loose a lot of power due to shadow, which you will have if mounted beside the tent. I think I would spend a few hundred more buying a thicker mattress, maybe give that one you have to the kids to play on. I enjoyed watching this thanks very much for posting this.

    • @live.life.simple.
      @live.life.simple.  Před 4 lety +1

It will fit on just about any kind of rack. The tent shell has a track that runs front to back on passenger and driver side. Bolts hang down from the tracks and will slide forward and backwards to adapt. Two metal plates, one on top of your rack and one on bottom with a bolt at the end pinch together and hold the whole thing onto the rack. Hope this helps it's not easy to explain, but it is a simple system. I have traveled about 4000 miles since installing mine and it's done very well. No noise and no movement.

Haven't built my tiny home yet, but was wondering how sub zero temps would effect a tent like this. I have a '05 suburban, and have lived in the woods here for 4 years. Want a roof top tent so been watching many videos, trying to decide what would be best for my situation. Any thoughts? To many options out there, and only want to buy one. Although I seen some sort of winterized big "blanket covers" you place along the entire tint as if you were under a blanket being in the "fort house" as a child. Lol! From the reviews and just the sense of it, it works good too! Based on how you put the blankets inside along the wall frames. (I am very knew about this too! And ran into that info.) Military has had these blankets for years to go around their bunks/tints.

Do not be fooled by friend just because they're cheap doesn't make him c*** that better. This was good as the $4000 1 I'll never fall. I'll never pay $4000 for any 10%. I'm gonna cut down. You always get what you pay for.
For sure is not ''The Best Roof Top Tent'' as the title of this video says. Proper Roof Top Tents at this style range from 2.800 euro up to 5.500 euro.
For those that think to buy one should consider many things, but most important are:
    1.
Weight, especially if you are going off road. Adding a massive heavy thing on top of your vehicle could be dangerous in some situations. This one is not the lighter one for its size.
    2. If you are going to camp during winter there are few that provide proper insulation.
    3. How often you camp and what is your style on camping. If you camp 1 month per year in a specific camping in summer time, you maybe can go with a cheap one like this, although there are others that provide more veνdilation with more windows. But if you go often, you like overlanding and off-roading my opinion is that you should go with a better one.
    4. Quality of materials and construction - Lifetime: Again, you get what you pay for.
    5. There are 2 basic types of Roof Tents. This one which is the best and those that are folding.
    6. Search a lot. There are many videos and forums about this subject.
