- Ukraine says its remaining troops in the besieged city of Mariupol are continuing to hold out against Russian forces - defying a deadline for them to surrender.

Moscow's defence ministry warned that all those who continued to resist "will be destroyed".
As well as bombarding Mariupol, Russia launched a series of missile attacks near the capital Kyiv and elsewhere.

No one can blow up a steelworks factory with thousand ton steel equipment all over. They nuke it or shut the f- up. It will take 5,000 men to clear it. Ukrainians hiding in the steel rubble with snipers, Russia will lose 1000 men. After using all the bombs the world has, they cannot blow it up. Just too much massive structural steel. Beams and rigging to move kilns probably 8 feet in diameter of steel. Kilns 30 feet tall at 1000 tons. Just not going to get anywhere.
A bit like the Japanese Kamikaze pilots in WWII who went to their deaths despite knowing that the war was lost and their sacrifice would count for nothing.

The soldiers in Mariupol want to surrender but Zalensky and their command forbid it. They say anyone trying to surrender will be shot. There’s a video of a foreign volunteer tied up, stabbed and thrown in a garbage container. Clearly he wanted to leave but his colleagues had something else to say about it. These soldiers will not or go down as heroes. Their deaths will be a tragic and needless loss and their leaders will go down as psychotic criminals who effectively murdered theses men for only their pride!

All the bombs of the world cannot take down such a huge a steelworks. All they can do is twist up some metal here and there. 30 ft tall kilns at 1000 tons. Furnaces 60 ft tall 3 ft thick. Massive cranes with 5 and 10 foot steel beams. One foot solid steel roller tracks hundreds of feet long on benches. Massive stamp machines up to 80 feet tall with weights at 500 tons. The whole superstructure is iron and steel. If you cannot nuke it, you cannot destroy it. This is why Russia is throwing tantrums giving out blathering ultimatums. The perfect sanctuary. So much equipment around in massive steel, not even chemical weapons can get into all the hiding places. Russia will lose 1000 men trying to take it. Will take 3 to 6 months. Even if they clear a spot, they have to hold it. At least 5000 men required, but I could be wrong, might take 15,000.
