  • VERSUS - SAN YAN 1911 Vs. MARUI 1911 | AIRSOFT
Time to compare! A cheap and cheerful Chinese copy to a plastic fantastic Japanese original. I have unboxed both of these replicas in previous videos, but let's see how they compare to each other.

    ORIGIN
The SY 1911 is a downright copy of the Marui 1911 MEU.
While the Marui replicates a World War 2 Colt M1911A1.
So one is a copy, the other is a copy of a copy...
    PRICE
I don’t like to talk about money, but here it is: The SY cost 66 dollars. The MARUI is 162 dollar, and I paid for it with my own blood, sweat and tears. There. Are you happy now?
    APPEARANCE
Let’s have a look at the exterior first.
The SY 1911 is completely made out of a cheap chinesium alloy of unknown blend and strength, except the grips which are plastic.
Marui’s replica, on the other hand, is made out of high-quality plastic. However there are a few exceptions like the mainspring housing, grip safety, thumb safety, hammer, magazine release, trigger, slide lock, barrel bushing, recoil spring plug and plunger tube, which are metal.
    Now over to the markings.
SY opted for the minimalist approach with next to nothing on the replica. The only visible marking is the serial number on the frame, and a caliber marking on the barrel.
Marui in contrast went full regalia with markings and engravings.
It has everything you would expect of a proper replica, and then some!
It has everything you would expect of a proper replica, and marking required by japanese law.
The fake wrap around grips on the San Yan are… really awful. The grooves are shallow, and the plastic is really shiny and slippery.
On the Marui 1911 grips the diamond cuts are deep, providing good friction to hold on to.
The grips look like wood, but are plastic, and on the inside there are metal weights to add heft. Lies up on lies up on lies.
    WEIGHT
Speaking of which, let’s have a look at the approximate weight.
The Marui weighs 604 grams sans mag. The mag weighs 192 grams. TOTAL: 796 g.
The SY weighs 531 grams sans mag. The mag weighs 182 grams. TOTAL: 713 grams
How can the plastic gun weigh more? The culprit is the two aluminium weights inside the MARUI grips. Weighing a combined 152 grams.
This is completely redundant, since the magazine compensate for the light plastic feeling.
    FUNCTION & FEEL
Both pistols operate pretty much the same.
Half-cock, full-cock, thumb safety, grip safety, slide lock and mag release works as they should. But Marui’s controls feel more solid.
On the SY 1911, the trigger reset is beyond critique. Pretty much non existent.
The Marui pistol trigger reset is both felt and heard.
SY has exaggerated tolerances, causing it to rattle. This is especially obvious with the slide, barrel bushing, and at the rear of the slide.
The Marui pistol in contrast is very stable with low tolerances.
The barrel bushing won't move unless you force it. Even the rear of the slide is stable, just like the rest of it.
    CONCLUSION/VERDICT
    In conclusion
The SY has cheap metal parts in abundance, but the quality control guy could use a swift kick in the rear, since bits tend to fall off or not be included at all.
The weight is on the low side, the grips are a nightmare, and EVERY corner was cut to make the replica as cheap as possible, consequently making tolerances high, and sacrificing reliability.
However, the SY is a functioning 1911, and stuff happens when you pull the trigger. Given the price, I’m not even mad. That’s amazing! (25-40)
The main components of Marui 1911’s are indeed made out of high grade plastic, and the quality control guy is on top of his game.
Tolerances are tight, grips have good friction, and everything works flawlessly. But the weight is artificial, moving the balance point rearward. And it is way more expensive than the SY.
But the craftsmanship is reflected in the price of the Marui, so if you take good care of your replica, it will probably outlast you.
I don’t regret buying either 1911, even for a second, but when I enter the field I want a dependable sidearm.
I want the Marui in my holster.
Please note that I’m performing these modifications at my own risk. These mods can go very wrong if you lack the skills, tools and knowledge required, and can damage your equipment and parts as well as cause injury on your person if you attempt them yourself.

Great review, congratulations. I have the 1911 Tokyo Marui and it is a fantastic gun. But I have a problem: the magazines fall. What happen? Can You help me? Thanks and best regards from Majorca Island (Spain).

Thank you for the great compliment!
Sadly I can't give specific help, since I don’t have the gun in hand. But it sounds like something is wrong with the mag catch, or maybe the magazine has suffered damage near the mag catch cut. Have a look at the above mentioned, and god's speed.

Will you introduce guarder meu kit? You can use marui 1911 or army 1911 to assemble a finished gun.

if it were me buying one of those guns i would go for the SY just because i really like Chinese clones (depending on what company you buy from), they are cheaper than some of the more name brand guns and because they are clones (typically marui clones), finding spare parts or upgraded parts is very easy to do and you can even make the china clones better then some Taiwanese pistols, and they are more rare and hard to find.

Some of the things you say are true, but from my experience certain parts have trouble fitting on the SanYan, like grips and slides. Also, upgrading a SY is a bit pointless since the internals are of such low quality. But it's a good loaner, and an excellent beginners gun.

Funny enough I got myself a Sanyan 1911, through Airsoft world though they rebranded it as 'AWE', Airsoft World Exclusive. The box however definitely showed it. The points you've mentioned were there but I've had a few different pistols, including an APS 1911 and a couple of WE Hi Capas to compare it against. Even a TM Desert Eagle and had a feel of my friends TM Night Warrior before he spent hundreds to change it up.
    Here are my two cents:
The actual gun works fine but the piston head is garbage for efficiency, and for a cold country like the UK I could never hope to get 12-15 rounds even at room temps. Thankfully swapping it out for a WE piston head from a dead hi-capa solved that problem and I can even get 45-47 rounds from an extended magazine.
Though the grips are not exactly great, the grips I actually preferred since I like a smooth feel over a coarse feel, that's just personal preference of course. The gun is accurate enough to repeatedly hit within a sticky note from around seven metres, provided that I do my part. And most pistols can easily do that, yes. The recoil is quick, and almost comparable to my WE 7.1 though the lighter weight of the gun makes it feel pronounced.
It fits TM magazines nicely with no issues, where as cheapo magazines are hit and miss without filing and tape. I've since added a Recover Tactical CC3H set, and replaced the GI Guide rod for a full guide rod as it tended to hang from time to time, which hasn't happened since the change. So yes, it has its quirks but a few changes, it can be a viable option without breaking the bank.

But still, if you wanna go Marui, I have no qualms. They make quality guns, and they work efficiently with very little tuning required.
Still, you put the charm into it and it's nice to see someone have a look at the more 'obscure' brands. Keep it up

Thank you for the complements and your two cents.
I'll upgrade and improve my owm SY soon enough by acquiring spares at flea markets.
      Nice to see your build.

I believe Taiwanese airsoft replicas are the best choices. Not as expensive as TM and they have better quality than mainland Chinese counterparts.

That's why this is an ever evolving and ongoing series. However I wouldn't know since I do not own a WE 1911. Send me one and I promise I will make another VERSUS on the topic.

Keep in mind airsoft is illegal in mainland China, meaning these small production lines do not have professional support and knowledge base to produce products that are comparable to one of the best brands in the world. Iphones are made in China. GoPros are made in China. Most of Tesla's Panasonic cells were manufactured in China. 97% of the things you are using are made in China. It's called global economy and there is no such thing called "Chinesium". There is only greedy people who are willing to screw people over for money. It's a sad story from the beginning that China had been served as the world factory while also getting all the hates due to political reasons and ironically the demand from those who can't afford shit but buying cheap things over and over. A very typical type of clients these Chinese factories had to deal with are people with a similar mindset like yours, who came in and demand some sort of copy using the cheapest materials possible. They knew they could scam people with craps and walk away from it because all the hates go to the idea of "Chinese made crap" and people just love to hear about it. I can ensure you China has its amazing craftsmanship and top-notch quality control that are way beyond your imagination.

Don't really get the point of this video. You pay for what you get.
Those cheap Chinese replicas never made to be a reliable sidearm for you to use in-game.
But when you get a Marui pistol and a bunch of mags and parts for it. Those cheap Chinese Marui system clones are very good for people who don't want to spend too much but want some similiar models just for fun. Or, they can be a good way to get spared parts of your Marui.

You just explained the video to yourself. The current iteration SY pistols are quite acceptable in the field. Granted, you get what you pay for. But if you're new to airsoft and don't want to spend too much money off the bat, getting a cheap replica to start out with is a sensible way to go. And I wanted to point out the differences between a clone and a reputable brand. If you're in airsoft for the long run, quality is the sensible option. But for casual or temporary usage, SY is a really good option.
A firend of mine bought one as her first pistol, and it is a good replica to tinker with. If you break something, it's notoverly expensive to replace.
