Description: In this episode of Urban Yogis, Michael Halsband made a name for himself photographing some of the biggest rock stars in the world, including The Rolling Stones and Billy Idol. After a surfing session with Coldplay front-man Chris Martin, who turned him onto yoga lessons with Eddie Stern, Michael begins his practice and finds what true art means to him, and that there may be more to life than the rock'n'roll lifestyle.
URBAN YOGIS is a unique documentary series featuring stories on the transformative power of yoga and meditation. Beautifully shot, inspiring, and heartfelt - the series delves into the lives of cancer survivors, inner-city youth dealing with violence in their communities, recovering addicts, artists, youth in detention facilities, and more. Comedian Russell Brand, Grammy-nominated musician Moby, "yogi" businessman Russell Simmons, and author/doctor Deepak Chopra also share their stories and insights. Renowned yoga teacher Eddie Stern serves as our host and guide to the stories of these urban yogis.

You're welcome! Thank you for following our channel!
Thank you! We have an amazing episode coming out on Monday about yoga in a youth detention facility.
Eddie's eyes show a wonderful soul
Awesome! So glad you're following our channel and participating through comments, etc. Congratulations on your teacher training with Claire! Are you going to publish your paper online somewhere?
Thank you so much!
Thank you!
Hi ChakraW, thank you so much for sharing. It can be challenging for anyone to begin a yoga practice, but it's important to be kind and not overly critical with yourself. Start slow - maybe one day you just sit and breathe. As time goes on you'll find yourself feeling more and more confident, flexible, and strong. But also, if you are concerned about your health (definitely get that ear checked out!) then just double check with your doctor before starting a new fitness/wellness routine. :)
Beautiful....so pure!
loving this series, thank you!
Fabulous series. Looking forward to the next one :)
Lovely photo of Eddie Stern
Thank you! :) One might say I've been a devoted follower of Deepak's (join the club, right? lol) since meeting him at a talk a few years ago. -& this channel of yours is really at the cutting edge!!
I've been asked by some other people (in the T1D community) if the paper will be published anywhere. I don't plan for it to be, but rather, I plan to use the subject matter as talking points to present on going forward. I work for the world's leading funder of T1D research.
Another great vid!!
Beautiful Beings!
I will. :) I've become more familiar with Eddie through your recent videos- this one with Michael, & your Yoga & Transformation Hangout talk from Monday. He's got a great energy, as well as all of the other teachers on that Hangout.
I'm a graduate of Chopra Center University's Seduction of Spirit & Journey Into Healing. I'm also soon to be finishing a 500 hour teacher training course from Claire (Diab). I'm writing a paper on living with type 1 diabetes & the impact of yoga on my life. ~ xo
Another good story. Namaste, from one urban NYC yogi to another/others.
Thanks! You should visit Eddie at his Ashtanga yoga studio! :)
Try a gentle yoga class, an Iyengar class or a restorative class. Those are great classes to start with as there is no flow and you stay in the poses longer.
Thank you for your suggestions. Just a note--it's not my ear. It's my heart. Look up "Earlobe Crease" or ELC.
Namaste, y'all. Bo)
yoga should be done on a circle mat pad + a high bar so One can shift body in every direction , relating to gravity as well. and not necessarily in silence
it's always important to Stop and take a breath ;)
Wow... talk about timing.
I was getting tired of Rock Photography and thinking about moving to portraits. I also noticed a crease developing on my left ear lobe and that an indication of heart disease...
WAKE UP CALL.
I was considering yoga, but the movements seem to be a LITTLE difficult at my size. Any suggestions?
