I like how he doesn't mention that he lost to Grant earlier in the week by 7 shots with Grant not even having his own clubs.
Watching Grant shoot an 8 under round recently, and comparing it to a “break 75” series, I think Grant just wanted a format that might make for a good watch. No offense should be taken.
Golfers like Grant are a dime a dozen. He's nothing special in the grand scheme of things
@johnsonspark171 wrong
Grant plays in Florida, wide open fairways with tons of roll and always great weather. In the UK he struggled to get the ball in play, sometimes not hitting much further than 250 yards into a breeze. He was clearly not in his element. Also the "he had borrowed clubs" argument is bull. He played some great golf in other videos and this was the last video of the trip, he was used them.
@@oliversales8453 no, they really are. They mass-produce golfers like Grant at the PGM schools in America.
@@johnsonspark171While many golfers exist of Grants talent, they aren't in PGM schools. They're the players who can't make it on mini tours. Grants talent is far above your average good players ability. Also his personality is way ahead.
I think we all know that Rick actually played a little over his head, and Grant struggled a bit. If they played 10 heads up matches from the same tees I would bet Grant would win at least 7 of them. I'm not taking anything away from Rick, I just think Grant is a notch or two better. In any case I love to watch them both play.
It was matchplay, and Rick was +3 gross. 😂
I think he'd win 9 if they played 9 more.
Lmfao what’s up with these. Grant lost. Why are y’all so confused?
@@brettdaniels6525 we are confused as to why Rick was confused about Grant's proposal.
It was a fluke rick beat grant.grant beats him 95 times out 100.
Rick can’t handle some chirp from Grant, Wesley would tear that man apart 😂😭
Facts. 😂
Wesley is a proper player
Not sure how he could even deal with his own people then across the pond they get way chirpier than us.
Grants a weird flog .
Wesley if taking it seriously would beat Rick by 10 shots.
Having notice some what of a decline in your game over the past few years I've been watching, Rick, that match with Grant was a lot of fun to watch. And I'm glad he had the stones to anger you enough to get you back. I'm excited for more matches to come seeing your improved game!
Thank you Grant for bringing the Rick we all knew and loved in the beginning back!
That was a great week of content with Grant. I really enjoyed it all. Rick you definitely brought something extra with Grant around. Looking forward to the next time!
Guy, you hit the nail on the head! One of the reasons why I love your channels so much Rick, is that you do show that you have bad days and you don’t edit it out. It shows all of us amateurs that even pros have bad days, and maybe even more than a few bad days. Keep up the great work! And, you really did help me with your driver video because I’m hitting better than I ever had before. What’s going on. Thank you.
Ricks one of the best ball strikers ever……. On his own simulator with edits….
Great to see your hard work pay off. The sound of your impacts were noticeably different and consistent. Very well done…happy for you! Keep it up ⛳️
Love how Rick acting like he’s a badass. Like to see Rick play with rental clubs after crossing the pond and do a rematch…
This discussion is a true show of character. Rick’s positive outlook positions him to get the best out of any situation. A true and wholesome champion. Cheers
I don’t think he meant it like that. He knows his audience likes to see him have an uphill climb. What more of an uphill climb than playing against a great golfer from the extreme tee differential.
Grant has also been playing some damn good golf lately. Even gave a pro tourney a shot. Most of his YT rounds have been no worse than +3, with a lot of rounds in the 60s. Break 75 is a series with Rick for a reason.
Rick played great and earned that win but I do think Grant was a bit handicapped by not having his own clubs on a course he never played that had a ton of tight fairways and blind shots. In the end it was great content and if it sparked Rick to get his ass out there and practice a bit more it is a win for all of us fans.
True ❤❤❤
Grant got his clubs later in the week didn't he?
What… those 2 things don’t matter/s 😂
The way yall feel forced to defend a rich kid is wild
As a 57 yo man who is just getting back into the game, I love your videos and that you leave the bad shots in. I used to be betwwen 8 and 12 handicap, now closer to 20. How frustrating, age is a pain shall we say. I know I have better, and your videos inspire me. Keep it up!
I'm with you there brother.
Rick Shiels. This is your show. You and your team put it together. You are a champion. The pain one endures to gain success is always sweeter than the pain one feels after failure and demise. God bless sir. Stand tall. I and many others have faith in your integrity.
It's good attitude that someone says you can't and you prove them and to yourself thst you have got it. Rick that's what you did and I am very happy to see a solid game from you.
You definitely set the stage for future matches! Now this will be great content in the near future. Can’t wait to see the rematch, hopefully in Florida! Can’t wait to watch!
This is the perfect video for me to hear !! I just played the worst round of golf in around 10 years !! So frustrating can’t stop thinking about every bad shot !!
Loved the match and the fact that Rick played so well. Golf is such a ‘head game’ and Grant certainly got in Rick’s. Love it.
I felt like Rick the golf competitor showed up for that match and not just Rick the golf space competitor. So much of Rick's competitive energy goes towards competing (and demolishing) in the golf space, very little is left over for competing on the course. So cool to hear the back story for what woke up the sleeping giant.
I started watching the Grant match today before work, ran out of time, will finish over breakfast tomorrow. VERY VERY good vid so far. I'm SO excited about how well you are playing now. I used to hide behind the sofa when you were chipping. Not any more. Only when you're in a bunker now.😂😂😂
I live in the United States and am a big Grant fan. But I was pulling for Rick by the end of the match. Rick played phenomenally well and I was happy for him. So congratulations Rick. Plus when the rematch drops I will be pulling for Rick.
Defo has to be a rematch both very good competitors and very likeable fantastic video hope Rick “The Bear” Shiels can sustain the good form in all upcoming vids
Good to see the fire still burns in Rick.
Rick brother, you have been struggling to break 80. Don't think Grant has done anything wrong there. Hopefully you can keep it up in the next few stroke play vids
Best round I have seen Rick play in a long time, nice work
I so appreciate Guy - what a good friend and supporter.
He's the worst thing about Rick's channel
I loved that match. Rick, it was the most freely I’ve seen you swing, for 18 holes,in a long time.
Great play by Rick and shows how one poke can inspire you to play your best to NOT lose ! Bravo Rick:)
In all honesty you needed it. I am not an avid watch every video subscriber, but I got the feeling that your focus has gone away from your own game to that of the 'media' side of Rick Shiels and it's good to see.
Well earned win by Rick. Love Grant too. Good content all the way around.
It was a fantastic series to watch, congrats Rick belatedly. This video explains something that I saw in the video where Grant recruited a couple of Yanks to play on the USA side vs UK's Rick & Guy. One of the Americans was surprised at Rick's good play and said something to Rick that made Grant have the quintessential look of embarrassment upon hearing his teammate's query. I bet that look had something to do with knowing the reception of his back tee/front tee proposal. That explains it. 😆
Seems to line up to me. Great to see your game improve so much. Gives me hope I can see such big improvements in my own game.
My coach in college always said you are one swing thought away from playing your best golf . Glad to see you play so well in match with Grant .
Good for you Rick! Take away some confidence. It’s so important and easy to lose when you struggle
I’ve been watching your content for years Rick and I think the hard work put into your game definitely makes the content more enjoyable. Some of the hard watches included matches where you continually hooked the ball left or pushed it way right and it just got painful to watch to I’m glad your on the right track with some great content along the way 👌
Grant did the same video with Erik Anders. Erik (8 handicap) teed off from the forward tees and Grant (scratch golfer) from the tips. I don't think he was trying to make Rick feel small. He just assumed Rick was playing to maybe a 5 or 6 handicap, and rather than give strokes, cut the course by 1,000 yards for him. If you're not used to playing from the forward tees, it can actually throw your game off because of the weird yardages you'll have into greens. Grant knew what he was doing by proposing that game.
Rick has done a decent job of transitioning from club reviewer to getting people to watch him golf with golfers better than him. I don't like his game, but I do like watching him playing against others.
Yeah, having another grown man suggest you need to play from the womens tees to compete isn’t going to offend any man.
@jordybeans2392 as a 7 handicap, I would take that bet any day of the week. I wouldn't feel offended. I would just take his money and run. 😂
Bullcrap. I am 67 now, and play from the senior (gold) tees. I am tearing the course apart. 330 yard par 4's will do that, when you hit drives 275. I hit my 3-wood about 240, and still have an easy wedge into most greens. Straight up, I will be shooting my age in ten years.
Switching tees definitely can give you a different look, forcing some changes, which isn't always a bad thing.
I've played an old favorite course much better from the blues than I have from the whites a few times.
You could tell in that match with Ricks manner and attitude, something was different. Rick came to play that day, it was awesome to see.
Rick you are the best you paved the way for all these new kids joining the golf youtube space ppl should be more respectful
Brilliant it shows what a great coach Grant is he knew how to press Ricks buttons for him to elevate his game to the level he is capable ❤. Have more confidence Rick you clearly have the ability. Love the content with you and Grant
To be fair that would actually be a pretty good matchup. Rick played great against Grant but you can tell actually everyone could tell it wasn’t Grants best day. There’s a lot of consistency with Grant’s game that Rick just doesn’t have anymore
He’s working on being more consistent and better better every video, you’re probably off 28 so Shhhhh
poor take
So Rick got into grants head and threw him off his game? Sounds like Grant needs to buckle down
agree, and it was match play. so if rick blades a wedge over the green he can just pick up
Rick got into Grants luggage and threw his clubs away
I’ve watched Rick for many years and I noticed during the match with Grant one massive change, Rick was slower firing his hips, this made his swing look far more fluid, less rushed and stopped his duck hooks. It was great to see him back at something nearing his best … long May it continue.
Rick it was a great match keep pumping out awesome content.
Ohhhhhh Rick. Wowwwww what a cheek ! Love to see you firing on all cylinders. DO NOT POKE OUR LOVELY BEAR ! Well done Rick. Love your Channel. Thanks Guy. Well said. R
I was cheering for you both during that match... it was epic
James Robinson saved me quitting golf , 2 lessons I went from total embarrassment to name on the board !! so easy in his approach and easy to implement his instructions and a really nice fella
What I like about Rick is that we see the real golfer at all times, just like the rest of us, sometimes we play bad and sometimes we play even worse! I loved you beating Grant, it was unexpected.
Rick is well known for editing out the bad shots. So no, not the real golf
Hey Rick. Good golfers who have played a long time know there can be huge ups and downs in their game, no matter how good or experienced they are - even tour pros. There are a variety of reasons that can cause this (age/work/injuries/time/family/body changes/etc). However, good golfers have the fundamentals to eventually figure it out (or make changes) and quickly get back on track to find out what works. The ones who have been watching you play for a long time know you're a good player and there is no doubt (you're a golf pro and you've been playing all your life). We also know you haven't been playing your best golf. But rest assured that we always knew you had what it takes to get motivated and get back on track, which is why we kept on watching. There is a big difference between good golfers who don't play well and inexperienced golfers who don't play well. We know in the grand scheme of things that you're a very good golfer and have our respect. Glad you've re-upped your game again.
As you said he is a golf pro. He just doesnt train as much and why would he when he makes a fortune doing what he loves. And ofcourse when he actually trained and put max effort he leveled up.
The danger of celebrity comes from your own success.
It can blind you to your growing ego.
You don't even know that you are acting like an a-hole.
Like the devil said " Vanity. It gets 'em every time "
Was Great to see Rick playing some good golf. Had faith he would win.
Hey the competition brought out the best and it made Rick play like a beast. It made a great couple of videos and was awesome to watch
Thanks for this. You played that match with an edge and you played so much better than I've seen in a long time. You seemed so focused, both angry. Even in the last few holes when Grant got back in the match, you stayed focused. I think you intimidated him a bit. Well done and keep it up. Grant is a fine golfer and you were just a little finer.
I meant "not angry" not " both angry" . Big fingers, small keyboard and a spell checker that thinks it's smarter than me!
From watching both CZcams channels of Grant and Rick I knew Rick had a run for his money playing with Grant my respect to both players
Back in the Saddle again Rick. Great work.
haha, good banter between friends. was a fun match!
Well played Rick - game has improved hugely and your putting was good as normal
Way to go Rick…Teach the youngsters you’re not done yet!
He lit up a flame in Rick, love to see the improvement 👏🏽
Rick your sidekick obviously loves you.
Rick I'm gonna be honest, I thought Grant was going to beat you. And that is just based on the countless number of times I have seen you get in your own head. However, you played magnificent that day. Your putting and chipping was just on another level than what it has been in recent videos. That's exactly what I commented actually. It was a stellar match and I am actually glad you won, because I felt you needed that in some way.
I want to rewatch that Rick & Grant video knowing this now... LOL
My take a way after watching videos from both Grant and Rick is that when Grant is playing, his reaction to an errant shot or missed putt is more of curiosity, rather than negative self talk. He appears to have a positive, can do attitude while Rick sometimes berates himself to the point of sabotaging his focus on subsequent shots. This appearance could be a result of editing regarding attitudes but I definitely note a change in swing tempo and pace of setup with Rick after and errant shot. I'm not sure if Rick's commentary is typically post round or during play, but he'll always outline the gravity of a putt and in my experience, evaluating the "what ifs", while executing a shot typically leads to disappointment.
With that, I thoroughly enjoy both Rick and Grant's matches and believe that a little trash talk can inject some incentive into the competitor's play. Rick, keep them coming!
If you think Grant was being arrogant you're awfully thin skinned...
I’ve always heard, if want to get better at golf, play better golfers. If Grant is really to reason you’re playing some great golf, I would suggest playing him as much as possible. I find both guys entertaining and fun to watch.
He was literally playing with borrowed clubs grant is 6’4 lol
Bro GAVE you a run With Borrowed Clubs That’s TUFF!
I’m glad you’ve improved Rick 👏 but 99/100 times Grant beats you. In Florida you would have to play off the front tees to give him a game. ❤
Rematch!
@@leedsunitedholmes4058grant is too used to the wide open courses in Florida.
I’m sure he could afford to bring his gear over
I always see my improvements about 2 months after really putting a lot of work in.
this will ultimately bring more views to the rematch & that's what we need for you tube golf. all love at the end of the day.
I saw that fanning the club open long time ago...I did the same thing for years so it's easy to see. I also can see a quickening of Rick's tempo/swing on the bad shots...it's easy to monday morning quarterback with the advantage of watching on video...also tubby...get in the gym...Love the channel
Jesus Christ 😂😂 guy thinks he’s Pete Cowan and a PT
Rick, the improvement in your game recently has definitely been noticeable. At one point a little while back you seemed to start a series of videos where you were going to chronicle your path to improving your game (I remember a video where you had an indoor lesson), but I'm not sure if that fully came to fruition. Are you planning on some content now where maybe you pull back the curtain a bit more on what you've been working on and your recent swing journey (I think you called James your new coach on a recent video?)? Side note: while everyone has hiccups from time to time, your chipping has also been notably better since you had that short game lesson with Dan - stick with those things he worked on with you.
Grant is a far superior player than Rick. Zero debate.
Rubbish-far superior, you must be joking. Rick was clinical and made no great mistakes and won too! Grant is good but not far superior.
Grant thinks he’s a tour pro but he’s a pretty average scratch golfer
Try make grant vs rick in a serious game rick would fail sorry
He lost to grant by 7 shots with grant not even using his own club
@@davidgraham8058Y’all really overestimate how good a scratch golfer is. Grants certainly a + by a few shots
Sometimes you just need a little kick in the nuts to activate yourself and concentrate. I think Rick finally got back to what most golfers should... Play this shot and just focus on this shot. Not the whole break 75 or anything. Don't think too far ahead of your round. It was a great match and I'd love to see a rematch somewhere down the road 100%!
Good for you Rick. Way to take care of the young buck!
I am going to have to rewatch that episode now to see if I can pick up on it
Have to be honest - I thought Grant would take you. The fact that you both played extremely well (Grant heating up on those last few holes) is a testament to your competitiveness. It was a great video and knowing that he lit a fire under you makes it just that much better.
I was wondering what your trick was that you were hinting toward in the video and now I know. Closed to open? Who would have guessed?
As always, love the channel and content! Cheers!
LOL! Love to hear that some good ole Trash Talk improved your game! Good medicine given and taken. Now Grant will have to take his own medicine to keep up! Great sportsmanship
(Also hope that this just builds on the two EPIC channels creating further content together with this new constructive rivalry!)
Haven't watched him since he left Good Good awesome that you won!
ive gotta say that after watching the you vs Grant video my first thought was . " i cant remember the last time i saw you play that well " .. long may it last .
Love you guys 👍 bringing us FREE content straight to our screens keep up the good work
He's your friend Rick!😁
I think it is kind of fascinating how something unexpected like that proposition from Grant can cause such a reaction. Even if you tried, you probably wouldn't have found a nearly as good motivator to work on your game. In a way, it is kind of similar to a short story from school in my teens. What no teacher had managed to get into my head from between age 7 and 16, only took a snide comment from a class mate when I started secondary school, and suddenly I got it. It pissed me off also, but I'm also greatful and somewhat surprised such a small thing could get into my head what 9 years in school had not (and I was a pretty serious student).
I don't by any means encourage people to give snide comments or stuff like that, because generally it I think causes more harm than good. But sometimes it gives the pokes the bear in a useful place.
I also like the James Robinson quote. In fact that was my exact reasoning before I decided to change my swing a few years ago. I felt like every round was all down to luck. I could play a brilliant round (by my standards) and then be frustrated beyond belief next time because I felt I was doing the same thing, but it didn't work. I felt like I was going to lose my love for the game if I kept banging my head against the wall, so at the end of the day, the decision to make changes was easy. Sadly I haven't played a lot in the last couple of years, mostly because of lack of people to play with and my home course being flooded about a month two summers in a row. With the summers in Sweden being short to begin with, that is really unfortunate.
Keep up the great work Rick, both with your content and golf game. I know I'm not the only one who look forward to see you put together that low score. I believe the hard work will pay off soon!
James Robinson nailed that advice, love that approach! "Are you playing good golf at the moment?" -> What does it matter then?"
And Rick took that personally
Yep... That is definitely Poking the Bear!
I thought this was gonna be a click bait headline, but fair play Ricky lad you smashed it! Good man.
Haters would say what they have to Rick. That fact is you played really well in that match against Grant. Your down swing had a bit of pause on most shots you played in that match which definitely is big change in your swing and I have seen people gaining more control over their shots with that pause. So, nothing to take away from you. You worked hard for this match, of course with some help from James (a world class player) and all that hard work paid off. Excellent performance under pressure!!
So Rick you played so well when next break 75 video is coming out I am sure you can do it.
I'm glad Grant said what he said!
That's what the AMERICANS do for our greatest allies and friends across the pond!! We get you in the mode ya want to be in for a tough battle! Bravo both of you too. Grant got me another youtuber to subscribe to! Well done limey well done!
This is the best video and ask I've ever even heard. My Lorde. If I was Rick I'd be sooooo angry. But thank God it produced such a great 1v1 match.
If Grant made Rick practice, that is a good thing. It has been hard watching Rick's game without feeling embarrassed for him for quite some time. The Rick vs Grant match was top notch, and beating Grant is not easy to do.
Hey Rick, the comment from danfan1, i have seen in other matches. I watched Garrett Clark litterally theough a match with Claire Hogel while on her channel. Sure I can see why when watching her follow thru swing with that little skirt flip,(very cute young lady). My point is, it was so obvious that he did it for likes and content. Remember Garrett and Grant are both gentlemen's gentlemen... I loved the match between you and Grant. It was good to see you playing so well.
A Texas fan.
Thanks Rick! Golf is hard
Have to say I’m glad someone (Grant) poked the Bear! 😂
I also looked at the 18th a little weird when Grant missed his approach and chip, but I then remembered that sometimes, I play a great game (Bogeys and pars) only to have a meltdown on a hole (7-8 on a par 4) out of no-where with no cameras filming, not even competing with someone and not on the final hole when everything counts.
I then go "Oh yeah I forgot,,, Golf."
To be fair, Rick was playing a hell of a round where mistakes were punished.
I absolutely LOVE that you won Rick. Hard work and excellent ball striking did in the obviously over-confident kid. You're authentic as well. That's why I enjoy your channel over all the others. I have no doubt that when the cameras are off you're the exact same person as the on-camera OG CZcams star. Keep hitting it well sir.
We all love Rick, but did you miss the part where he said he made sure Grant didn’t get his own clubs? Think about how important that is.
Well I owe Rick an apology, a month ago I accused him of eating to many sausage rolls. And not working on his game. It’s clear after this match his game is absolutely trending up. Way to go Rick.
Not gonna lie, i thought Grant was going to eat your lunch! What a great round!
As a fan of Rick for many years, I’m really glad that something motivated him to start practicing and working hard. You watch him play and you can tell he’s got loads of talent but he just coasts on his talent. And quite frankly his lack of practice and hard work comes across on his videos. Really glad that he’s starting to take his golf seriously. I could tell in his videos with Bryson that he was starting to turn the corner.
I'll be honest, I think that could make a hilarious series with one golfer playing off the red tees and one player playing off the back tees. This might have been done but could do it so if you win the hole, you play from the back tees on the next hole.
And you whooped dat ass!
