    Barbara: I especially like the fabric peeking thru the two covers in between the original spline. That is most intriguing. Great job! Carol from California

    I've never actually completed a journal. When the covers I made turned out so stiff that they wouldn't lay flat, I got frustrated and stored them away. With the time it took to make them (not to mention the cost of the gorgeous papers!) I just couldn't get rid of them. Thanks so much for this video, Barbara. You saved my journals.

      I wonder if a Momigami type technique could also soften the cover joints? I know you can’t scrunch it when it’s like that, but could still add little bits of oil (as per a video by Robyn McClendon where she rubs baby oil or olive oil on her hands & kneads the paper) & just flex & relax them to make them softer 🤔 Just in case there are any you want to keep as is. You could try rubbing your hands or fingers with a little bit of oil (enough to just make them a bit greasy, not dripping) & use it to rub into the paper at the joints, then flex & extend the joint over & over, adding a little more oil as it gets absorbed. You don’t want it to be oily enough that it will be absorbed by your signatures, but just enough to feel like a very well handled paper. Gives it an almost soft leather texture. I really feel for you that an unexpected effect has brought your projects to a standstill 🤗 This is Robyn’s video where I watched the technique. Great way to make some gorgeous fabric style paper anyway. I printed some scanned text from a scrap of papyrus from very early in the first millennia on some thick paper, then used oil & folding/unfolding to make a gorgeous piece of paper that feels really old. Very relaxing too 😊 czcams.com/video/dnLdsLWDAaM/video.htmlsi=bEtV4KQbcIhlFgdt

    Barbara! I just finished a project exactly like this! I had an old book cover where the spine had completely detached from the covers. I put it back together with fabric the same way. But the only difference is I sewed in the signatures signatures on the fabric before gluing it in for a hidden spine ❤

    Wondering why you glued the initial fabric-side-down on the inside covers? The pattern you glued face down was really cool! And, you could have saved the second chunk of fabric for another project? Either way, I really like the journal cover :)

      I wanted the fabric to peek out on the front. The backside is white, so that wouldn’t have looked nice around the edges.

    Oh, such lovely music 🎶to go with lovely art! If it's the right bit then it has to be, even from the middle🙊. Lol Amazon packaging is fantastic! Yeah, hindsight🙈. Wait, there's an EASY WAY? 😱😄😄. I usually use fusible interface to adhere fabric to anything now, even though it means ironing 🙈. It's lovely and you'd never know it wasn't meant to be like that from the start 😍. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖

    I love your journal transformation! The journal now looks softer and more manageable. Regarding the binding, will you make a hidden spine with this one? Is it possible to make the usual binding with this kind of spine? Please show us the next video when you bind this one! Sweet greetings from Athens, Elena

    • @49dragonflies
      @49dragonflies  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Thanks Elena! I will probably make a hidden spine for this, but I guess you could also sew right through the spine. ❤️

  • @chiagirlmyfatcat896
    @chiagirlmyfatcat896 Před 10 měsíci

    That seemed like a lot of fabric and gluing ... the frontside is not frayed like the back side or the top and bottom. I was actually surprised you took scissors to it. The signatures are getting glued to a separate spine and glued in? I think they might look nice alongside the decorative spine! Loved the first fabric turned around! Are you continuing in this journal on video?😊

    • @49dragonflies
      @49dragonflies  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I did Frau the fabric after I cut it, maybe you kissed it in the video. Yes, the signatures will be glued onto a hidden spine. Not sure yet when I will be continuing with this.
