I had the privilege of knowing Leander during my days at Dubai Duty Free, then after we moved to Canada 12 years ago, I heard he was in town to play the Rogers Cup. My son who was all of 10 years, wanted to meet this "someone famous" whom I claimed to know. I sent a text to Leander, half not expecting him to respond but within a short while he not only responded but he also had tickets waiting for me at the box office. After the game I took my family to meet him and he got talking to Matt (my son) where Matt told him about how I always spoke about Leander being a popular and famous Indian sports personality and how all of us were proud of him. To which Leander responded in the most humble manner " Your dad who works hard to take care of you, now that's what I call a real hero." I salute you Mr. Paes, you ooze class on the court and definitely off it too.

looking at the global perspective and how big tennis is, lee is probably the greatest sportsperson to come from India. Sadly many cricket fans will have a different opinion.
I'm bangladeshi and see Leander as one of the top 5 best Indian sportsperson in the world. He's very achieved in tennis but not that great. If the titles were singles rather than doubles than maybe he would be the greatest, but doubles is not as well regarded as singles. He's good and all but the standards of sachin and likes of Dhoni is much higher than that of Leander, even if tennis is a more global sport. Popularity wise he stands no chance lol

To be fair to Gaurav he did bring Bindra on the show. Perhaps Bindra being an introvert couldn’t capture the imagination of the cricket crazy Indians

Leander Paes deserves a biopic. His story needs to be told. Such an icon.
I always looked him as a great doubles player.. admire his fitness for longevity.. but today when I hear his health struggle as a boy. and especially 'don't break even' earnings in his long initial yrs.. now I started seeing him as a REAL legend!
Breakfast with champion doesn't mean only cricketers it means every champion athlete. And athletes cover, hockey players, badminton players tennis players etc. Basically every sports playing athlete. And Im a cricket fan so plz just enjoy this great vedio.

What a champion...My first Olympics was the 96 one when he won us our first medal on the last day of hope of a medal...He was the reason why I started watching Tennis...Tennis has some of the coolest people ever. Truly a champion and an inspiration for many Indians...

Inspirational. As Sachin is to Cricket so is Leander is to Indian Tennis. He's quite underrated sportsman in India with a career spanning more than 2 decades. and was the only ray of hope during the Atlanta Olympics. One of my favorite interviews alongside that of Nehra & Kohli. Shortest 16 mins which made my eyes moist

Absolute respect and lots of love to this guy. Couldn't finish this episode without shedding some tears. Love his expression when Gaurav mentioned what's his favorite moment watching Gabriela(Sportsplayer vs Sportslover). Felt nostalgic remembering Steffi, Gabriela, Sampras, Agassi .

Leander is a patriot. I remember Atlanta '96. I slept thinking the match was over. In the morning, my dad woke me up saying he had won India the sole bronze medal. Still remember Leander's reaction on the podium, priceless.
I really like this series which gets us to know the people that we have idolized and worshipped very up close and personal. Thank you so much that. I would love to see Vishwanathan Anand sometime on this show because I feel that he is kinda underrated in India even after being the world chess champion for 5 years. Great job again.

This is so amazing.. learning his story; he is a legend.. it's also nice to have a break from crickters and watching other players from India..

But you should have asked him about his childish feuds with Mahesh Bhupathi. He has done so much for the country, but the two of them had the potential of getting multiple medals for India. They were such legends together. But they had to throw it all away. Why, Leander, Why? I don't think India's going to get such a tennis duo (especially after understanding the economics of individual sports in India) in a long long long time.
I am still hurted how so sweet and successful friendship was ruined for ego problem
He had a fantastic set of genes. His father, Vece Paes was a center-half in the medal winning Indian hockey team at Munich Olympics. He thereafter became a qualified doctor. His mother, Linda Paes, was the captain of the Indian women’s basketball team. I had the privilege to see both of them play in Calcutta. The most humble people you would find.
A Giant rubbing shoulders with Sachin Tendulkar and Viswanathan Anand. One of India's greatest sporting superheros. India vs France, Davis Cup quarter-finals at Frejus in the July of 1993 was the day the Legend of Leander was born.

For me the most memorable match was Doha mixed doubles with Sania mirza, where we almost lost the match but still managed to win .
I don't remember the year but that match is still fresh in my mind.
