      @@FrietjeOorlog Ofcourse: you can't select reverse in automatics from the shifter now in a manual transmission the gears will grind so fast there is no way of it entering in reverse

    This is not only an impressive Lego Technic feat, but also a lesson in how a gearbox functions. I really love the two types of load-testing you have at the end and I appreciate how you collected data points and graphed them out. I think the only thing missing is a nice technic mount using rods and tires to hold the tachometer in place right next to the wheel so you don't have to hold it with your hand.

      but how? its an electric motor, wouldn't it just top out at the same max speed than without the gearbox? the only thing it shows is every gear has a different rpm which uh... that doesn't really happen in a normal car so I don't think it's a good lesson on how a gearbox functions
      but it is pretty cool

    I wish my father was still around today, he'd have been blown away at you basically building an effective Lego dynamometer! He owned one he used on a regular basis to test motorcycles he has been researching performance mods on, as well as letting racers come in to use it to test their own bikes out.

    wow, he really tested this gearbox. my favorite thing is that he made a realistic shifter so there isnt friction of the shifting handle and the shifting rings. and also the 5 to r test 👍🏾👍🏾 i like this test

    I feel like with the suspension test, the gear box, the rough terrain roller and this that you planning on building a full on racing ATV. You should btw....like a racing ATV and fully functioning Lego garage/testing lab.
    Next suggestions:
    1. Automated pitstop crew
    2. Folding convertible roof
    3. Joystick guided aiming system for a Lego football cannon or your older card tank

    Watching how the gearboxes could liter change the speed without even doing anything to the motor really goes to show how advanced LEGO really has become. I remember this one time when I built a gearbox that could change the speed and direction with one motor. It was really fun and actually not all too hard if you understood the gimmicks. Must I’m saying, this is absolutely on another level of just amazing. Great job!

    Nice video! One suggestion though. You could make the shaft with the shifting picese the output shaft so that if you are between gears or in no gear in acts like a neutral. That way it can keep spinning while shifting and build up speed like a real car, instead of stopping the wheels and turning them again.

    Excellent work! I built a lot of with gears and things 30-40 years ago. Watching this makes me think they must make the gears out of better plastics now. I lost track of how many 8 tooth pinions, u joints, and other parts broke from doing less than what you’re doing here. And those parts were expensive too.
