  • Happy Valentine's, Galentine's, Palentine's, or whatever the heck else kind of Alentine's you may be celebrating! Love and roasting goat flesh are in the air as we look at how St Valentine became a patron saint of lovers, when and what St Valentine's Day has been over the centuries, and what it has to do with Romulus and Remus, Satan, and whipping pregnant women with the shredded flesh of a goat!

I was so surprised when I realised I knew of lupercalia. I had a "wait a minute, this sounds familiar"-moment. Turns out Lupercalia was a thing that my DM (Dungeons & Dragons) took inspiration from when she made up a festival in a fantasy culture for a game we played once.

Also, Claudius is looking *fine* on that coin. Often times paintings and profiles and human representations look almost inhuman, you can clearly see it's a face, but you struggle to make the shapes correspond to an actual flesh and bones human face. But every once in a while you stumble upon this portrait that just oozes humanity, where the shapes are true are recognizable as being someone, just like all the people we've seen in our lives. And the profile on this coin looks just so human.

TST satanist almost a year late but Lupercalia is one of our holidays so I’ll share a little about it. I’m not sure if anyone else has so far but oh well. Lupercalia is the first religious holiday of the year celebrated on February 15th. It’s a celebration of bodily autonomy, sexual liberation, and reproduction, also known as a hail yourself day. The 13th and 14th are feast days leading up to the holiday, and on the 15th, you celebrate yourself! For most people that would mean sex, as it’s part of the holiday, but as I’m asexual, I really just do whatever I enjoy doing to treat myself

I heard the funniest story on tumblr about someone who believed that the story of St. Valentine was about a gay polycule. They understood the phrase "marrying all the young" men in the direct way and not the performing marriages for young men and their sweeties. :)
You love us! (Ref to description) bringing us Lupercalia (and a little doubt for Valentine's) our faves :)

The new camera looks good; as soon as the video started rolling I was wondering what new equipment you were using. Everything looks more well-defined. Shout-out to editing Jimmy for putting that camera model note in!
I knew bits and pieces of the history of (St.) Valentine's Day, but learned a lot--thank you! Lupercalia is always fun to hear about (except when people are insisting that Valentine's was come up with to replace Lupercalia...)

Fun to see this very topic here as myself & a friend were having a chat on where Valentine's Day had come out of & if it had been another case of Pagan festivals being co-oped by the Christian church. I'm sending this onto them so they also learn that nope but there was one around this time anyway.
    Happy Lupercalia Jimmy.
