    lol not everyone knows what a trigger is. My ex girlfriend was with me at a gun shop (big mistake) and I was looking at a beautiful Colt 1911. Blacked out with white trim and inlay. I was gonna take her home and name her Sheila. Well my ex pointed at the trigger guard and asked what the "squeezy pull thingy was" Me and the guy behind the counter laughed so hard at that. Love the mention of the Marlin 25! My first and favorite firearm is a 1978 25 Glenfield that was given to me by my favorite uncle when I was 12 in 1997, I bet I've easily fired 300,000 rounds through that little rifle and, after having the bolt worked on once or twice and doing some trigger improvements it's still an absolute tack-driver. They cost nothing and are just AMAZING rimfire rifles. I don't know about the newer 25s, I assume they're great, too.

  • @Orthrus
    @Orthrus Před 11 lety

    Clips feed ammunition into magazines. Magazines feed ammo into the receiver. Pretty much, if it has a spring, then it's a magazine.
    Clips are things like the stripper and en-bloc clips that were used to load Mosin-Nagants, the M1 Garand, and so on. Stripper clips are still used today to quickly load military magazines - we used them in training to speed up loading. Afterall, we had to get 180 rounds into 6 magazines and no time to waste doing it.

    Im glad you do these videos. Ive been around guns all my life and hanging out at the local gun store you hear all kinds of terminology. I know some people may not even want to go into a gun store because they dont want to sound stupid. So they can watch these vids and get the answers. p.s. I dont think and Im sure you guys dont think they are stupid just ignorant as we all were at some time or another. I know my mother in-law is getting her ccw and it was funny hearing her talk about guns

    The term "clip" refers to a very simple device made from one piece of sheet steel. Clips are used to store ammo securely and load it easily into the magazine. Using the term "clip" to describe the magazine is like using the term "jerrycan" to describe your car's fuel tank.

    Good one guys.... As a qualified firearms instructor (with pistol, rifle and shotgun) I will say that that was a very useful video to do. The amazing ignorance of some people that buy guns is amazing. You'd think that if they have enough interest to want to own a gun they'd want to know how it works and what the parts are called.... But no, many don't seem worried..... sigh... xo :-)

    It depends on your price range and the range you think you'd be shooting. You can find a good used Marlin 336 for less than $300 but you will be limited to 200 yards with standard ammo and 300 yards with Leverevolution ammo from Hornaday.
    For a hundred dollars more you can get a good Savage Stevens 200 and substantially greater range.
    After that, you have the the Ruger Hawkeye and the Remington 700. Both are simply wonderful guns but will cost you about $700 each.
    Hope that helps.

    "John Browning was no dumbass." Biggest understatement ever. Guy made the Browning Hi Power, the M1911, the .380, .45ACP, and the .50BMG. Firearms industry would be completely different without his contributions.

    the 1911 from Springfield incorporates a 38 Super firing pin and spring. making it drop safe. the 38 Super firing pin and spring have so much tension on such a light weight pin, only the hammer has the strength to launch that pin. that's thanks to the extra powerful main spring that pushes the hammer.

    I have a US manual for '50s on small arms describing many foreign models and "assault rifle" was used to describe the MP43/StG44.M2 carbine (pistol replacement cartridge), BAR(full power), etc. technically would not fall into definition while M1918 Ribreyrolle(8mm bullet fitted to necked down .351 Winchester case,full auto, 35rd magazine) would easily meet definition.When "officially" designated I'll take your word, but military used term much earlier, and concept around even earlier than that.

    One of the most famous snipers in history used a rifle without a scope in WWII. He was Finnish and the scopes he had available would have made him too exposed so he went with iron sights. He had 505 sniper kills in 100 days against the Russians using mainly a Mosin-Nagant.

    To follow up, while the German word "sturmgewehr" was around, the U.S. Army officially defined the term assault rifle in the early 1970s. According to Merriam-Webster, the first use of the term Assault Rifle in English was 1972. The U.S. Army developed to weapons for use in WWII for para-troopers etc. that fit that definition. The M2 .30 Carbine and the M3A mostly chambered in .45 acp.

    Okay... Originally there was the .22 BB cap, which was basically a form of percussion cap with a ball crimped into it for indoor target 'gallery guns'. The .22 CB was the same deal with a better, conical bullet. Then Smith & Wesson made a longer version with a real (heeled) bullet and a little actual propellant for their #1 revolver. This was retroactively dubbed the .22 Short. Somebody decided they wanted more power, and made a longer version called the .22 Long...
