I'm 73 and I remember vividly having Barbara Stanwick paper dolls. I would design clothes and color them with Crayola. Funny what things we remember so vividly.

@@sanfordpress54 Oh. My sister passed away on January 7th 2024, Emphysema that went into C O P D. She basically smoked herself to death. We never always saw eye to eye, but she was my sister. I just don't know why she did that to herself and her family.

Simple days in the 80s and 90s for me- Mother and Dad talk about how wonderful the simplicity was and calling school off at times to pick cotton- Dad sitting be the radio like watching tv- Howdy Doody, Tall Tales of Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill and John Chapman(Johnny Appleseed),etc. maybe nostalgia hit me at birth, but doesn’t SOMEBODY need to pass on these absolute priceless works of history that’ll just be forgotten? I hope all you “kids” out there keep the “old” things alive in your children. CG Pixar movies- blehh! Shirley Temple in The Little Princess- Melody Time, and I grew up with Uncle Remus! Playing in the tape player in our 80s suburban- thank you mom for transferring our records to cassettes, and finally finding the “forbidden”- Song of The South- MY Uncle Remus! Melanin differences are only skin deep! I agree about its banning. B’rer Rabbit, B’rer Fox and B’rer Bear are alive with Zippity Doo Dah in my little gal, born 8 years ago. Oh man this movie was a ride. If you haven't watched it yet, it's totally worth your time. People will say "great movie" to basically anything free on youtube, but this time I really mean it. It's a great movie and you'll enjoy every moment of it. Barbara Stanwyck played her part perfectly.

Enjoyed this one from 1950, thanks for uploading it. Barbara Stanwyck is superb, she has a real presence. Interesting reading of Stanwyck's difficult upbringing, losing her mother aged 4, the father then walking out on the children , brought up by her sister as well as foster parents and then working full time from 14 onwards before becoming a Broadway actress. She had a tough start in life. I prefer these black and white movies from the 30s, 40s and 50s to much of what Hollywood produces today.
“That Dame sure knew how to carry a picture” as they used to say and after watching this her performance is right up there with her role in Martha Ivers, another great movie.Thank you for posting really enjoyed it.

I really enjoy her work. I didn't think she was a great beauty but she was beguiling and she knew it. And that voice! I read she started smoking when she was 9 years old. Sad to say, but I think it was worth it.

They always have been so overrated, I quit watching when Bob Hope didn't MC anymore I'm going to be 86 yr. Really good acters so overlooked.
Stanwyck and Robinson won our Respect. That's much more worth than that ridiculous statue. It's like with the Rock'n'roll Hall of Fame: so many top notch artists aren't in it, and that too is a giantic joke.
it is interesting that she was one of the most respected and liked actresses in Hollywood by everyone on set and costars. Her ex husband adored her too. She had so many Oscar worthy performances too. Class act!
Stanwyck did get an honorary Oscar for her lifetime achievement. She deserved an Oscar for her wonderful roles she was nominated for.
The only good film role of edward g robinson was in Soylent green when he played that washed up has been actor with zero talent.
There isn't one actress at this time who can even come close to Barbara Stanwyck or others in her noir. Her grace, style, talent and screen presence are unsurpassed. The classics of the 30s, 40s and 50s leave indelible impressions on our heart. We can watch most of them, over and over! We know them word for word! Actors and actresses from those decades could teach today's "stars" a lot about true film making. Back when Hollywood had decency, there was no need for vulgarity, nudity, graphic violence or sex. It was what the audience DIDN'T SEE, that was so enthralling. "Fade out" were the magic words. You knew what they were about to do, you didn't need a visual aid! Close your eyes. Now, just for fun, try to imagine Barbara Stanwyck in the nude with Wendell Corey in bed together, ready to romp! Kinda difficult, huh? Someday, maybe today's "stars" will realize the collective imagination of the audience goes a lot farther than a cheap nude scene..

Though magnificently acted, there is absolutely nothing 'decent' about either of the lead characters in this film. 'Cleve' is absolutely despicable as is 'Thelma'.

I was born in 1972 so missed the classic period of these films. It was around the late 1980s when they used to show old films on tv in the weekend I adopted a love for this old era of movies. Still watch them regular. Great work Broken Trout.

Barbara Stanwyck always delivers!!!
Love these old 40s gems! Watched in honor of Barbara’s birthday, 7/16/1907. Happy Heavenly Birthday Barbara!
Of course Stanwyck mesmerizes with her characteristic intensity, but one shouldn't overlook all the studio work that makes such a melodrama believable, whether it's Victor Young's quietly persuasive score, one of Wendell Corey's strongest roles, the tight editing that makes the film move right along, or the contributions of all the supporting stars who support the story instead of hogging the limelight. It's a fascinating melodramatic noir!
I remember Barbara Stanwyck but I forgot what movie I saw her in because I was still in Junior high school when I saw the movie.
Stanwyck was one of the best actresses in film noir and nominated twice for best actress.
Actually nominated 4 times. She deserved many more nominations and deserved to win. But she was a rare freelance actress during the studio era. That’s why she never won an Oscar during her career, but the modern members of The Academy felt she deserved an honorary Oscar. If you weren’t under contract to a major studio like Davis at Warner Brothers, Hepburn at RKO, then MGM, etc., you had a terrible disadvantage. Back then the studios owned the movie theaters as well. They were guaranteed distribution because they owned the cinemas. Stanwyck, “Missy,” was one of a kind. She never became a caricature of herself. She was an actress of the first order. She was so versatile, doing drama, Noir, westerns, comedies, historical films. So talented. 🎬❤️

Ever since the masterpiece that is Double Indemnity came to existence, 200 films of that era were produced that pretended to mimic it and copy it.. but never had one of them come to be Double Indemnity, it is the quintessential Shakespearean Noir.. The gem of the collection for countless reasons.. Hollywood has been a profit driven copy machine from the beginning..

I was one year old. Barbara Stanwyck was and is one of the greatest , if that wasn’t the best death scene I’ve ever seen, no pun intended, in movies and we’ve all seen plenty. And all-around great movie and cast. I’m a musician. If you pay particular attention to the score, every movement is punctuated with music. Of course you don’t think about it in those terms. No stock footage in this baby. No I’m going to have to watch all of her movies back to back. Lol.🎉

That's life. First class drama with first class actors and actresses. There's something about the eyes and mouth of Barbara Stanwyck that makes her the perfect conniving and alluring Femme Fatale. The film seems so fresh. It hardly points to 1950 if it wasn't for the cars, perhaps. - and the morals.
What morals? He was a cheat and she was a fornicator and killer.

One of my favorites is Remember the Night. Stanwyck and MacMurray’s chemistry is great in that! She is amazing in the scene where he brings her to visit her mother before taking her back home with him for Christmas. Truly gut-wrenching. Some people are raised by wolves.

I remember when Barbra Streisand won Best Actress over Barbara Stanwyk. My aunt was disappointed and said that Stanwyk was a much better actress. Why do I still remember that, all these years later? Maybe because she was right. Streisand won due to other reasons. The beginning of the end of good cinema....

So many great scripts Barbara was given - not one of her movies are boring, without great context and such drama and heart. She's one of the few who could get me to cry with such feelings. You could get lost into her emotions - she'd bring you with her on the journey she was taking in every movie. She was one of the first who in her later years managed to make a great tv series and still held the camera as if she was the only one in the whole series. Thanks for sharing.

Always like Stanwyk's performances. So believable in them.
Stanwyck did not have Hollywood's idea of the perfect female figure. She was broad-shouldered, long-waisted, with a flat derriere. They balanced her proportions with styles that looked best with a wide shoulder. They gave her wide waistbands to shorten her long torso. And they often gave her a deep peplum or a gathered skirt to balance out the shoulders and give her fullness at the rear. My thanks to Barbra for her figure and to those artful designers. My figure has those same unbalanced proportions. When I wanted to look my best I only had to imitate a "Stanwyck Style"
I wished my bust was Barbara’s! She had a beautiful figure. I still can SEE 👀 her in Thornbirds wearing that dark blue gown wanting Richard Chamberlain to make love to her….then insulted when he didn’t! That was acting even at the great age of 82!
Great overview of the way designers dressed Barbara Stanwyck! I love how they styled her differently in Lady Eve as Jean and Eve. I ADORE her, but when I was a young I only knew her from tv like Big Valley and Thornbirds (in which she was brilliant, despite the rather icky plot). Now I’ve seen lots of Stanwyck in pre-code, romances, comedies, noir. She was fantastic. Regardless of their abilities, my mom was always critical of the appearances of actresses 😉-she disapproved of Joan Crawford’s shoulder pads and she said something funny about Stanwyck- that her bust was like two golf balls on cardboard 😂

This movie's got a 6.9 out of 10 on imdB ratings, to me, it's a 9 out of 10, it was very good. Stanwyck is her usual "Double Indemnity" type broad.

What a great film. ALWAYS Loved Stanwyck, as an actress and a beauty💕💕, and the second lead leady, Joan Tetzel, had my heart racing too 🥰🥰. And the performance of Stanley Ridges, as Thelma's lawyer, I thought was outstanding.
How anyone would leave Tetzel for Stanwyck, is a mystery to me.

Great movie! Does anyone else take notice of how in these movies they think very little of driving drunk? Not just this movie but just overall. It seems like something they don’t think twice about doing.
In the late '70's it was acceptable. One just drove carefully. And if you were totally plastered, you were just going to wreck your own car.
They also smoke when they're pregnant.
Thats how it was, my father drove home, pull up outside our house, open car door and fall out onto the pavement. Sometimes a neighbour would have to pick him up and carry him indoors. He never had an accident.
Wendell Corey is the doctor consulted by Burt Lancaster in Sorry, Wrong Number. It’s he who tells Lancaster that Stanwyck is a ‘cardiac neurotic’. That’s yet another of Stanwyck’s amazing roles. 👏🏻
