I like how every 80s or 90s movie has the same guy voicing their trailers
Indeed. This is Don LaFontaine's voice. He died in 2008.
Haha. He was THE voice.
😂
Lol even today they've got only a few guys who narrate movie trailers.
"IN A WORLD......"
This movie felt like a strange fever dream from an alternate universe. I watched this movie once late at night as a young kid in the 90s and then never heard about it or seen it again and questioned if its existence was even real for so many years until I saw it again in my late teens and confirmed it was in fact real and not just a disturbing figment of my own imagination.
Bro. I’m from an alternate universe. I grew up in the 90’s and never in my life have i seen or heard about this movie until 2023. Our timelines have collided.
@@ConquerYou hi I’m from a different timeline as well
@@Jaylenoraps I believe it. Nice we can all meet here.
@Conquer You! X to doubt. This movie was plastered all over the cover of Nintendo Power and it was in every gaming guide, every nickolodeon show.

Ow.. i thought im the only one. 😆😆
The one thing I can't overlook or forgive is Luigi's lack of moustache.
Or the fact that he's Puerto Rican and Luigi is clearly supposed to be an Italian .
I don't hate John leguizamo , I just don't understand why Hollywood had so much faith in him . When they cast him as the clown in the movie SPAWN , it was baffling to say the least .
It's like going to a Thanksgiving parade, and seeing Puerto Ricans pretending to be Indians with feathers stuck up in their head.
@@GLOCK-NINE-666 John Leguizamo has claimed to be italian. That could be why he was given the role, but I don't think he's puerto rican either. He was born and raised in Colombia, which is why he took the role of Bruno in Encanto.
@@joemann7971
Okay . You're right . I just looked it up on Google . Basically , he's Colombian but his entire comedy routine in 1997 was about John being proud of his Puerto Rican roots . He even marched in the Puerto Rican Day parade and played Puerto Rican characters in his movies . In 2011 , his father did an interview with CNN and he told them that John was lying about his Puerto Rican ancestry . John took a DNA test and it proved that John was not Italian or Puerto Rican . He's been confused about his true ethnicity for his entire life . ( 🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾🤦🏾 )
I can’t overlook how terrible he was lol and The Pest…. 😂
Look I don’t care what people say about this movie. Is it off the wall weird? Yes. Is it completely different than the game? Totally. Is it worth watching? Absolutely. I read an interview w the creators that this was supposed to be the true story and Nintendo adapted it and turned it to a video game. I loved this movie as a kid. So glad to see it’s making a comeback.
Saw the first time recently and yes this movie not at all accurate to the games but is an entertaining popcorn flick.
I'll have what he's having.
The 2023 movie is a full on faithful representation of the games, with clean and accurate representation of the game characters and their personalities.
This 1993 movie has little resemblence to the actual games, but it's got that grit and 80s/early 90s weirdness that makes it actualy pretty awesome.
Absolutely! The 2023 one is the FAR better *Mario* movie, but the live action one is an incredibly charming fever-dream of a movie which I genuinely love for all of its disconnected to the source material 90s insanity!
The 2023 film absolutely blew my expectations out of the water.. literally, the only thing holding it back was Mario and Chris Pratts halfass performance

This movie always has a special place in my heart. I LOVED this movie as a kid and still put it on when I'm feeling a bit nostalgic.
Me either! Watched so many times, and the hype around Leguizamo at that time was really cool!
Were you eating mushrooms while watching it ?

My aunt showed me and my cousin this movie because we were Mario fans. We liked the beginning but when we saw Mario and Luigi we were like "Are you sure this is Mario?"
Edit: Forgot to mention we were kids then. We were cursed out when we saw the Goombas but also not at the same time because we were clueless then. To this day this movie still scares me.
Your Aunt is cool ! ❤
I haven't seen it, but from the trailer it just looks like an action movie with the two leads cosplaying as Mario and Luigi 😂
what Mario?
@@beyourself1214 you are correct
This was the live-action Super Mario Bros back in the days 😅 doesn't have to look like them. Just look at the new little mermaid coming out 😂
If this wasn’t named Mario bros and they took out the mario “theme” it would have been far better received lol. This is the same level as any other action movie that came out in the 90s lol. I honestly loved it.
Like a B movie
A resounding applause for whoever cut and mixed this trailer over at Buena Vista.
I agree, it's a great trailer!
I loved this movie as a kid who played Mario. I wasn’t aware of the radical changes they made to it. I just enjoyed seeing my favorite characters Mario and Luigi having an adventure in a weird Dark City.
I haven’t seen it in years though. I wonder if I would still like it today. I enjoyed the new one a lot. I know the two are worlds apart in terms of tone and stuff like that.
I didn't like all the changes they made and I was aware of it as a kid. I still liked the movie tho

This Mario movie was so bad that the 2023 animated version was needed so it can kick this one in the crotch.

I think this is better than the 2023 movie because that was okay and kind of forgettable when I watched it. I'd definitely rather go for something so bad it's good than something okay and forgettable.
No it ain't

I am going to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the same theater tonight!
That is about 30 years later.
Here is a challenge: picture there being no video game called Super Mario Bros. in any part of the universe. Then, this comes out. Would this movie still have failed? When people say this movie is bad, they are comparing it to the game. This movie and the video game had their very own separate means of greatness. In my book, this movie is not bad. Critics are. 🤪
Burn this movie to a Crisp!!!!!
30 years later we finally got the real deal!!!
Thank you Illumination & Nintendo 🐐

0:46 the most awesomest 90s trailer to feature this song since The Fisher King
When you wanted to watch Super Mario Bros in theaters but your Mom said she has it on DVD already.
Even the trailer is a joke. Is like someone who said "who it would be a Mario movie in the 90s" and makes fun about it, everything is just ridiculous, the distopyc world, realistic Yoshi, the actors, the portrail of Mario and Luigi, the goombas, everything seems like a parody or that "Mario as a dark fantasy film" by IA, but the amazing stuff, is that it really happened!
It can seem like a dream, like something that never was, an idea, an alternate movie, but it happened. The existance of this film by is own is amazing. And is pretty good as an alone film. Loved it.
Saw this in theaters when I was about seven. This came out the same year as Jurassic Park, so that was a year for movie dinosaurs.
I recently ordered this from my library in honor of the new movie
From what i can recall, when this movie came out, Mario didnt have a wbole hell of a lot of established lore in the United States. I mean, just look what we had for Mario 2! Doki Doki what? Its a wonder that this movie doesnt stray even farther than it did.
This movie feels like it should be part of the mandela effect, yet somehow it actually WAS real.
This is the Dragonball Evolution of Mario Bros
Yes
Exactly.. Thank you
This film is definitely a guilty pleasure. I have both this film and the 2023 Mario movie in my collection. The latter being my favorite Universal/Illumination film of all time.
After finally watching it for the first time with a good friend of mine this movie is pretty awesome he says this us his favorite movie of all time and I can see why it's not bad as a movie there are some mario references but not to where fans of the games would like but as a movie it's not freaking bad I had a fun time with it and will be buying the DVD
This lives in that weird 80s-90s realm of expensive blockbuster bombs - reminds me of Last Action Hero and Hudson Hawk, to name two. To say something nice, it looks like every dollar in the budget ended up on screen.
It's such incredible movie. It was the best movie I had ever seen when it came out and it still holds. I love everything by Kubrick, Nolan, Bergman, Fellini and Tarkovsky, but Super Mario Bros still retain the top slot!!!
It's a bad movie. But it's bad in the sense of it's so bad that it's great and entertainign kind of way.
Kurosawa is great too, but just doesn't match Super Mario Bros.
That's just called nostalgia dude lol it's been proven when we view things through the lens of nostalgia we remember it way better than it actually is. That's why old people say "this isn't nearly as good as my memories from long ago!" I'm sure you feel for the movie but realize half those feelings are nostalgic
I liked how absurd this movie was
It’s because it’s a kids movie
Now go get some Nuri bilge ceylan, Roy andersson, Carlos reygaydas into you my fellow adult
It felt like fallout meets Mario Bros looking back at it.
I miss when trailer used to be trailer now they literally give out the whole movie and all the fun scenes in trailer itself
"Come and get it Lizard breath".......Man, that is some smart high end comedy writing right there.
This movie seems more of a Luigi movie than a Mario movie
I’m trying to see this movie any one knows where ?
this was had nothing to do with Mario i swear the makers never even played the game
The production on this thing was a mess.
Actually it does and more. It actually makes the Super Mario world a lot more interesting than it really was. You can't make sense of the canon Super Mario world but this movie explains it quite well that makes sense in a Sci-Fi mindset. You're just going on the bandwagon meming nonsense.

I don't care what anybody says I like this movie, was it a perfect adaptation of the source material no but it did what it could with what it had at the time. Remember this movie started filming in May to June of 1992 for a May 1993 release the technology wasn't there yet and I doubt it ever will be to show the mushroom kingdom or King Koopa in live action.

Hollywood can't make a movie with this much heart today.
The new Mario film is just two hours of references and easter eggs. All filmmaking today is made to be safe and uncontroversial, and designed around appealing to nostalgia over all else. If you tried to pitch a Mario movie as an avant-garde dystopian cyberpunk today, you wouldn't get anywhere.
