Im 54...and I was born, "east of the River"/Wash-DC"....raised on funk, jazz, classical and any and everything, from Stax Records. Like most of us, I was infliuenced by the music my folks listened to and collected (on vinyl, of course). So, fast forward to when I joined the Marine Corps and was stationed on the West Coast for the entirety of my enlistment...suffice it to say, whatever my mates from other parts of the States, listened to, I LISTENED TO..because I was so eager to step outside of my comfort zone, musically. MANY of those cats lived and died, on 'Priest' and Sabbath....and I can remember a bunch of us, going to see them and a number of other 'rock bands', whenever we could. Judas Priest became a favorite of mine, very quickly, after I saw them at the Forum in LA, during their "Fuel For Life" tour. All these decades later, my metal-Mt Rushmore, consists of, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, the original-Megadeth and "Priest'.

I Was there at this performance and all of us were stuck in mud high as our knees! So moving was not possible! By the way: the song creates goosebumps everytime I hear it!
I love to see how Rob didn't hit a note one time and then immediately made an adaptation for the next big scream of the song, making sure to ramp into it in a way his voice could manage. Such experience and dedication just makes it possible for him to still perform like this. Phenomenal.
It was a backing track. His vocals didn't line up with it. Shortly after that, you can hear both his voice and the playback going in sync. It was just a minor slip up
I know you are wrong. Maybe retouched in the final mixing, but this in the most part trustworthy. Pay attention to the partd where Rob cannot reach the high notes in the same way than in the studio versión, and to the way he reajuste herself to his limitations, and you Will see it
His range is probably the greatest I've heard. Freddie may have been able to hit ridiculously high notes, but I don't recall him going from a growl to a wail like Halford does in this. Still, Rock gods.
DOwning was amazing, but god look at Faulkner, look at that skill, that energy, that precision. Downing can never be replaced but by god Faulkner is the best man you will ever have as one.
@@theodosios2615 ahh but the mighty dollar will prevail. Such a kickass track!! From the awesome guitar solo intro to the great instrmentals. Then Robs death growl to a high note is mindblowing..Especially at his age here. Imo one of JP's top tracks of all time.
Yuri, it is definitely playback. You can hear his real voice under the playback, he just started in the wrong key/didn't raise the pitch quick enough to match it.

Through long nights and days
The ice and the hail bear no malice
Tow the line

Valhalla, you are calling

We crash o'er the waves
Bite deep on the oars
Scouring the spray
On the storm's maul
Then lightning reveals
For what we all pray
By Odin in Asgard
It's land fall
Life from death
Combat rests
Heralds peace for the slain
Valhalla, you are calling
Valhalla, you are calling me home
Valhalla, new day dawning
Valhalla, this is where I belong, I belong
The storm in the night takes us there
On an unrelenting tide
As the wind drives us ashore
Halls of Valhalla
Tow the line

Tow the line

Keep it fine
Every man seeks this end
The halls of Valhalla are calling me home
The halls of Valhalla that's where we belong
